    “Great time!”

    we stayed the first 10 days of Oct this year! First time also going away off season, usually we go Jan or Feb to Cuba so it was a lot quieter! Nice Hotel but lacks seating outside lobby,sitting inside lobby even with all the doors open it was still to stifling especially at in the evening. Not much going on this time of year which was a little disappointing,I would imagine it would be more livelier during peak season. We did meet a lot of people who we sat around with after dinner and we made our our entertainment with drinking and singing! The staff are very friendly so please go to the dollar store and pick up as much as you can to give back, they really do appreciate it, not just your cleaners for the day,give out to the people you rarely meet like the gardeners, waiters! We met a lovely waiter in the buffet (Lazaro) he was telling us that it is really hard to find diapers in Varadaro so we bought him a large bag and his face was priceless! Most of the staff are polite, you get the odd one but it's few and far between, they are all nice! bring bug spray! especially for in the evening! bring a bubba as those little plastic cups don't hold much so you'll be back at the bar several times! it was a problem trying to replace the pool towels, there was never any, I think we had ours changed once! We ate most days at the Arras Blancas not sure how you spell it anyway they had better food and it was hot! bring hotsauce to flavor your food as it is bland,hey! your in Cuba! change your money at the bank at Arras Blancas, much better for your Cuc's! The beach is fantastic! spent everyday there, usually we would lay at the poolside after lunch but out of 3 pools only one was blue and the others green with Algae! they were not in a hurry to clean it up, it was green the 10 days we were there! It was a good Vacation but I would not go off season again, too quiet! and I would go back to the Barcelo Solymar probably in our winter!

    “Bad hotel”

    I spent 4 nights in this resort with my family and was horrible. Food wasn't cooked properly, and the rooms were the worst that you can imagine. Here I present some pictures that support how bad the rooms are. My recommendation is not to waste your money here.

    “Another week at the Barcelo”

    I have returned back to the Solymar numerous times. The staff at the Barcelo has always treated me excellent that is why I have returned numerous times. The hotel needs some upgrades. From my 1st visit to this this one there have been many changes that have been disappointing. No food or snacks on the beach, no music or activities on the beach, only 1 washroom on the beach. Pool bar is closed by 8:00 pm, that leaves the lobby bar inside very crowded and there are not many tables and it gets very loud and hot inside. The pool bar used to be opened until 11:00pm, much nicer to sit outside and enjoy what we came for. The staff is all amazing Lala, Grety, Lizandra, Felix, David, Oscar, Grey, Martica,Aliuska, Ida, Yendry, Juan, Gabriella, Abilito, these are just a few that made my stay wonderful. If I could I would name everyone because they all work hard to give you the best service they can. Please remember if you have a problem take it to management or customer relation, the staff working can't do much other than listen to the complaints where as management can look into your problem for you.

    “Absolutely Terrible Hotel!!!!”

    Understandably not all vacations are perfect however this vacation far from good and in fact the hotel was TERRIBLE!!! We have travelled to Cuba many MANY times and this was by FAR the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. I will go into specific details below: Rooms - upon arrival we were told that we received a complimentary upgrade to a Bungalow Suite (which according to the staff had been recently renovated) when we arrived at our room we found a bed that had an incredibly DIRTY comforter - bath towels that were no larger than hand sized towels (only 2 of them) - an extremely dirty shower with scum everywhere that you could tell had been sitting dry for days and an electrical connection that had been left exposed. When we opened the curtain in our room to see our “view” what we saw was one of our chairs with a large dead insect that ants were eating away at - these things happen however important to note that our balcony chairs were NEVER cleaned the entire week! Our TINY bath towels were NOT replaced 2 of the days we were there despite the fact that I left them on the floor! Our bed sheets were NEVER changed. The other thing that was NEVER changed was the beach towels - every single day we tried to get our beach towels changed we were told to come back later at which point they simply told us they did not receive any towels as the laundry service is off site - this resulted in us having to use the SAME beach towels for 7 days - which is completely unsanitary!!!! Beach - the only thing that was a 10 out of 10 on this vacation was the beach - Varadero beach is beautiful...sadly there is no doubt that less and less people will be visiting this hotel given the terrible conditions. This hotel should be investigated for its current unsanitary conditions!! Important to note that of the picutres you see here the washroom picture was they way our washroom looked when we arrived - it looks like it is wet in the picture but it’s just the dried dirty scum left uncleaned for days! We did bring our concerns about the bath towels and beach towels to the attention of the General Manger Marquez of the hotel explaining that these are basic amenities that NEED to be accessible to all guests staying at the hotel - we explained they don’t need to be fancy they just need to be CLEAN and CHANGED daily! He offered up the excuse that if the staff were saying they didnt have towels it is because they truly didn’t! Well if that is the case how can this hotel continue to stay open with such poor conditions!

    “Great stay at Barcelo Solymar!”

    My first time to Varadero, second time to Cuba. Really enjoyed my stay at Barcelo Solymar. Many thanks to the staff for being so friendly and helpful. Bravo! Congratulations on joining with your neighbour, Arenas Blancas. The two properties aren't just right next to each other, there is a seamless joining of the two. It feels like one big resort, double the buffets, double the pools, double the bars, a big whack of superb beach. Did I mention the great staff? The all-you-can-eat ice cream didn't hurt either. Double Bravo!

    “Bad hotel”


    I spent 4 nights in this resort with my family and was horrible. Food wasn't cooked properly, and the rooms were the worst that you can imagine. Here I present some pictures that support how bad the rooms are. My recommendation is not to waste your money here.

    “Another week at the Barcelo”
