San Blas Environmental Reserve houses numerous archaeological sites from the Guanche period that have been preserved, protected and researched to obtain from them all the possible information about the first humans who inhabited this space: the Guanches. From the caves where they lived to ritual areas where they invoked their gods, they are part of the rich archaeological heritage of San Blas. The ravines and hills of San Blas also hide vestiges of a more recent past in which human beings found in this place where they could grow their food, obtain materials from nature or store rainwater. Cereal and tomato orchards, threshing floors, stone quarries, tajeas route or the dam itself are part of the cultural heritage of this place.

Millions of years ago, the same species of flora and fauna that populated Macaronesia settled in this place, later adapting to the environmental conditions of the place and adopting new forms, creating a landscape of endemic species that have been preserved to this day. The tabaibas and spectacular cardones are the great protagonists of the flora in this arid territory in the south of Tenerife. As for the fauna, birds and lizards are the most represented species in the Reserve.

It has been 4 million years since the first basaltic flows descended from the summits to reach the ocean. The waves of ash more than 500,000 years ago gave the yellowish color that this territory has today. The wind and water were responsible for sculpting what is now known as the lunar landscape of San Blas.
