    “Good family resort”

Went with my brother and dad, and had a good time. More leaned towards family oriented, good if you have kids. Service is good, great location. Downside was paying for wifi and only being able to connect 2 devices per wifi card... It was seaweed season when we went there, therefore didn’t go in the ocean a lot. Overall cute resort.

“Bad experience, never returning, stay away”

Front desk: bad service, attitude, and poor admin Upon our arrival after 10 hrs travelling they made us wait +2 hours because they didn’t have our reservation, they blamed AirTransat however after calling them they realized the booking was confirned since 3 days ago. Poor admin and blaming others was so unprofessional and unwelcoming. Rooms: dated, serious AC issues, flooded 1st room: we were assigned room 4615 (at the club area 2nd floor), it was boiling at 27 C degrees, AC technician came 3 times but couldn’t do much. It had a palapa hay-roof with birds nesting and holes we could see the sky through. Impossible to sleep due to extreme heat and chirping birds. Terrible. 2nd room: We were offered another room with working AC however it was located at the kids area and in front of the massive AC equipment (extremely loud noise 24/7). 3rd room: After 3 days finally we were moved to a room in the first floor near the pool with working AC, however one night rained and the whole room was flooded, beds and sheets all wet... a nightmare! The Palapa hay roof of the unit above clearly was defective, and the rain water fell all the way down on to our unit. I wonder how did the passengers above dealt with such a mess... Pool: is it a hot tub? Not refreshing at all. The water was so hot that people commented it felt like pee... Pool bar: nice hard working people. Friendly and attentive. Management should have placed a TV at the pool bar so everyone could have enjoyed the FIFA soccer World Cup, Food: nice Mexican bufete, but cheap materials. A la cárte Mexican restaurant was the single place where you could get a decent grilled steak, it was closed 3 days and extremely hard to get a reservation. The Italian restaurant was also closed some days and we couldn’t get a reservation. The Asian restaurant wasnt good, the pad Thai was made with normal dry noodles (not rice noodles), the sushi was disgusting (thin-shaved sashimi, and starchy normal rice on rolls) Beach: lots of seaweed, brown and dirty water. Not the turquoise and clear water we always had in Playacar. Not the hotel’s responsibility. Global warming I guess... That’s in a nutshell... stay away from this crappy hotel. There are much better options with Iberostar or Riu. Never again coming back to Barcelo Allegro Playacar.

Excellent service, people and hotel. As for entertainment they need a little better advertising. Wifi should be included in the all inclusive package but otherwise everything was great. Make sure to avoid vacation club people. The manager at the vacation club is extremely rude if he doesnt get his way. I feel bad for those employees.

    “Terrible 19th anniversary experience ”

On June 27, 2018 we booked a one week vacation package from June 30 to July 7, to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary along with our daughter at Allegro Playacar. We woke up the morning of June 7 at 7am to start our journey to México, we were 3 hrs in advance at the airport as indicated and at 12:10pm we were on our 4hr flight to Cancun, arriving at approximately 3:30pm (local time), went thru immigration, waited for our luggage, and by 4:30pm we were out looking for our transportation shuttle to our hotel. After several stops at 6pm we finally get there, very tired, sweating and hungry after 12hours travelling. We approach the front desk to find an unmotivated young man, it was hot and they had no A/C given it was an open space, I figured that had him upset. I give him my confirmation paper I received by email from AirTransat when I made the booking, he starts looking in his system and soon tells me we didn’t have a reservation. I told him that paper was my confirmation and that he needed to resolve this problem because there was obviously some error from either AirTransat or Allegro Playacar Hotels. He reluctantly gets the telephone and stats calling AirTransat, saying hopefully at 7pm on a Saturday they will answer. He asked us when we did the reservation, I told him 3 days ago, didn’t recall that moment the exact date, he says because on this paper the date is June 30. I said I had printed early that morning before leaving to the airport and that’s why that date was there. He insisted that if the reservation was done last minute and being a weekend we might not have a room for you. At this point my husband and I started getting frustrated. I asked if we could speak with a manger. AirTransat thankfully answered and they indicated that the reservation had been sent on June 27 to the hotels reservation department and it should’ve been activated right away. He goes talk to his supervisor, that finally came out to say if we didn’t want to go eat while they tried to solve the problem, my daughter was starving so we accepted and at 8pm by now we went for dinner. We come back an hour later (almost 9pm please recall we woke up at 7am that day) and she says she will give us a room and that the next morning she would correct the mistake. I ask her to please give us a nice room near the pool (I had read on reviews they were the nicest and best located rooms) but she said they cost USD$50 extra per day, and gives us a room on a great area, but on the 2 floor of that building. The ceilings were made of hay and we could see looking up the sky, the temperature in the room were 27 degrees Celsius (not pleasant, hot and humid) the bellboy says it takes a bit of time to cool down. It was 10pm by now, we unpacked, showered and changed clothes while we waited for the additional bed is brought for our daughter. At 11pm approximately they finally arrive, we just wanted to go to sleep. I tell the housekeeping lady that it’s been over 1 hour and that the bedroom wasn’t cooling down, and we couldn’t stop sweating much less be able to rest with that temperature, she said she would tell the maintenance person to come check out A/C. At 1pm he comes and tells us he doesn’t have access at that time to all the tools and equipment and that the next day we could be assisted better. We are offered to change bedrooms but given the time (past 1am) and how tired we were, we told him we would bare that night as it was. The next day we wake up very early as of the heat, get our swimming suits on and just want to have breakfast and go to the pool to cool down. We later come to the room to find the temperature still at 27 degrees, we call reception and they indicated the maintenance person had been there, I tell him it’s still too hot. Another guy comes and tells us that 26-27 degrees is the average temperature for their rooms, so I tell him that it’s just unacceptable that the temperature in a room shouldn’t be over at least 23 degrees as of our body temperatures. He says someone else will come the next day again, and asked if we wanted to move bedrooms, I said that if tomorrow they could really fix it I would bear another night, since it was a hassle to pack everything. The next day again we spent our day outside to come back to yet again a 27 degrees bedroom. My husband calls the front desk and says we’ve had lots of patience but there was obviously something wrong with the A/C that they couldn’t fix, or it just wasn’t strong enough to cool the bedroom with a hay ceiling that doesn’t insulate from the heat outside. We request to be moved bedrooms, I indicate there was a vacant bedroom very close that I had seen housekeeping cleaning earlier and felt cool when I came in and that she had told me the family had just left that day. We were not given that bedroom, instead they decided to give us a room on the other side of the resort, right beside the Kids Club, whose noise was as unpleasant as the A/C not working. I call this time very frustrated and demand to be given a bedroom in the first floor by the pool, that it was the least they could do after 3 days of bearing with the heat. We finally are given as asked and the ceiling being drywall the A/C was able to cool it down to 23 degrees Celsius, which although not cool enough it was a lot more bearable. We were finally enjoying our time (despite the main pool feeling more like a hot tub than refreshing, other passengers even joke people were peeing in it) when it started raining, we get back from dinner to find our daughters bed soaked from water leaking through the ceiling. I call front desk, by now they know who we are, and very unfriendly takes my call and before I can finish telling him of the situation he interrupts me replies he will send maintenance and hangs up on my face. We are now just very upset and frustrated, I call back and ask to speak to Jorge, but he tells the girl (that answered) that he couldn’t take my call, I tell this girl that I need the water problem resolved ASAP, that we were heading to bed and didn’t want to be calling again and again as the other times for the A/C and that I would report the behaviour of her colleague, as unacceptable towards passengers paying thousands of dollars for a anniversary vacation in that resort. Maintenance and housekeeping that time did come very fast. The next day I wake up ready to leave that horrible place and to talk to a manager. We had asked several times for him but they wouldn’t give me access, some said they didn’t know his name, front desk called the supervisor, but wouldn’t get me to the Front Desk or Operations Manager. Luckily as we were doing check-out I see a well dressed man, talking to an elderly couple and figured it was probably him and decided to ask him. He sat with me and listened to our ordeal, and asked what he could do for us. I told him it was too late, we were leaving but that he needed to do something about the service (specially at the front desk) the Air Conditioning and I suggested they do something about the pools water temperature because all the passengers had been commenting about it. That I definitely would never return. My experience in Iberostar Quetzal or Iberostar Paraíso Maya had been excellent and from now will stick to them. I hope this helps other people before booking at Barcelo Allegro Playacar Resort. The food was very local, which we liked but didn’t have much variety. Blessings!

    “Great family vacation”

I stayed at Allegro Playacar for about 9 days. It's location is awesome, about a 30 min walk from 5ta Avenida. Beach front property. I was looking for a family oriented all inclusive resort and Allegro Playacar did not disappoint me. My 6& 9 year old boys had a blast thanks to the entertainment team. By the end of the trip Mario and Fernando the entertainment staff knew them by name. They always felt included whether it was playing beach volleyball, soccer, or in the pool games. Definitely will return in the near future. Always felt like I was part of the Allegro family. The rooms a bit humid which is the only complaint I have. Everything else was great.
