This spectacular and challenging golf course, originally built by the Barceló Group, is located in the heart of a beautiful tropical setting. The golf course renovation was completed by Ulrich Lang, a Class A Superintendent since 1998 and a member of GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendent Association of America).

The new design introduces more drama and improves the visibility of spectator areas. The objective was to improve the quality and strategic challenges of the golf course, focusing on environment aspects and reducing maintenance issues by modifying the bunkers. Ulrich Lang worked on replacing the bunker drainage system and redesigned them in the style of typical English/European bunkers. These bunkers respect the tropical climate and withstand water problems due to rain better than the old bunkers. Finally, the bunkers, now filled with new white sand, are ready for guests to use.


Within Los Delfines Golf Course lies the first ASOPROLAPA Pre-Release Area, from which more than 150 scarlet macaws have been released in the central part of the Nicoya Peninsula. Today, thanks to this effort, this region of the country holds the third largest wild population of scarlet macaw in the country.

ASOPROLAPA was born at the end of 1996:

The survival of the scarlet macaw in the Nicoya Peninsula is ascertained from a captive breeding programme and the monitoring of more than 150 artificial nests and 50 natural nests available to individuals in the wild.

The ultimate goal will be to reach a viable and self-sufficient population of free-living scarlet macaws of close to 500 individuals, capable of lasting over time.

Within the facilities of Barceló Tambor - All Inclusive, next to the spa, there is a hectare of native vegetation that houses the Psittacine Sanctuary, a space dedicated to the conservation of birds such as parrots, macaws and parakeets. This sanctuary hosts both native and exotic species, including the scarlet macaw (Ara macao), the green macaw (Ara ambiguus) and the blue and yellow macaw (Ara ararauna).

The main objective of the sanctuary is to protect these species, promote conservation and environmental education, generate scientific knowledge and disseminate information about their biology and care.

A specialised team works daily to care for the birds, ensuring their feeding, health and wellbeing. In addition, educational talks are offered to raise awareness about the protection of wildlife, and the hotel actively collaborates with non-governmental organisations to strengthen conservation efforts.

The sports offering at Barceló Tambor – All Inclusive is extensive and varied. It has fully equipped facilities for practising different sports, such as 3 tennis courts where racket-sport enthusiasts can enjoy improving their game.

The hotel also has a football pitch and 2 multi-purpose courts for enjoying a game with friends. The beach, the football pitch and the volleyball court will delight sports lovers, as well as provide perfect activities for families. 

The giant chess provides fun for everyone, especially the little ones. But this game is not just for entertainment, it wakes up the imagination, and increases memory and concentration. 

Other sports at the complex include archery, table tennis and pool. There is also a choice of water sports such as kayaking. For the more daring, the hotel features a climbing wall and a trampoline.
