    “Poor customer service and no one gives a damn”

    My husband and I visited this Barcelo property for the last two nights of our honeymoon. After a very long day of driving all the way from Nicoya Peninsula we arrived at 11pm on a Sunday evening. It was storming good, and we were experiencing one of those torrential San Jose downpours when we arrived at the hotel. I asked my husband to pull up under the front awning so we could unload our bags where it was dry and I could run in and check in. When we exited the vehicle we were stopped by the valet/bellman and told that we could not park here. I explained that we were checking in and would be moving in about 2 minutes, and that it was customary for customers to park here to unload when the weather was bad. The bellman argued with me and insisted that my husband move the vehicle. We moved the vehicle 100 yards away, into the open parking lot and both of us proceeded to get completely soaked (as well as all our luggage) on the way in the door. We were beyond upset at this interaction. When I brought up the instance to the front desk staff the bellman came over and started loudly arguing with me about what he had said and tried to change his story and save face. I honestly wish we would have left at this moment, but we were very tired and just wanted to land somewhere. The room was nice but had some issues. For instance, on our second morning the shower just would not get hot. We had to call maintenance to see what was wrong with the hot water. The room was large, and comfortable. The location convenient and central. I just wish the staff would treat you with a little more respect and courtesy. This was ridiculous. Not one person apologized to us during our stay or even attempted to make it right. I found the staff here to be completely careless. "Not my problem" is their motto here. I recommend another property.

    “An oasis of comfort conveniently located”

    We stayed at the Barcelo San Jose the night before our departure from San Jose, and it offered a welcome respite from the heat and humidity. The hotel provided every amenity we could have wished for. Rooms were immaculate, cool and dry, and the beds were very comfortable. As Expedia Gold customers we were offered complimentary use of a cafeteria that included a delightful buffet that included wine, beer, champagne, and espresso drinks as well as delicious soup, bread, cheese and meat, fruits, and beautiful tiny desserts. The prices were very reasonable, and included a shuttle ride to the airport, which was only 10-15 minutes away.

    “Good Hotel; Mistake solved, ”

    When I arrived I had some room problems; as soon as I report them, a big part of the staff start a damage control issue; 12 hours later it passed from a bad night to make me feel like home; Thanks for your help and support Love the PREMIUM floor!!!

    “VERY DISAPPOINTED”

    I have come to this hotel for years and this last time that I was with my family we had a very bad experience with the guy that was closing the vip lounge. For hospitality there is always a good manner to tell the things to your costumers, but in this case was very impolite and abusive.

    “Earned my loyalty as a business traveler”

    This hotel definitely earned my loyalty as a business traveler. I travel to Costa Rica every two weeks, and tied this hotel for the first time and was impressed. Very good price-quality ratio, good buffet breakfast and free airport travel every hour. Also very good location, in a nice part of town and at the heart of San José, ideal for my packed schedule. Next trip will definitely be at Barceló San José.
