“A beautiful resort and wonderful staff .Ceasar in the Buffet was so charming and wonderful”

We really enjoyed our stay, but the food at the buffet was not good and I do not recommend the Italian al la cart as it was not edible. But the service was great the deserts were lovely. I love this resort but prefer to eat at the local restaurants as they are amazing. I highly recommend De Simone. And Ayi Carbumba.

    “Nice Place”

The staff was excellent, without exception. I specifically recall Caine in the front lobby, who was friendly and helpful. The property at this resort is very well maintained. The maid service is excellent.

    “Great location”

My favorite thing about the Barcelo is the location. Outside of town, in the mountains, Beautiful views, the rooms are very large. Food was average for all inclusive resorts, poolside snack bar was our favorite. Wonderful staff! Especially Emmanuel and David! Bring mosquito spray, we were bitten up, mostly while eating breakfast outside on the patio. Eat at Tony’s in Mislamoya, a short walk from the resort. You will not be disappointed!

“lovely grounds and far more peaceful than being in town. Go to the zoo and to El Jacalito”

Good staff--lovely grounds-lots of lounges and the pools were not crowded. The shows were far better than I expected and dancing in the Cantina was fun. Quite liked the speciality restaurants and found the Italian the best, The food in the buffet was, of course, very repetitive and would not meet Canadian food standards--the cold was nice and cold and the hot was tepid. I would if I were the chef have the staff study a different plating system as many unidentified dishes in sauce did not seem very appealing. There was however more than enough choice and we broke up the evening buffets with dinner out and the specialty restaurants, House wine was okay and house coffee was passable. Service for drinks was fine and cheerful--music was louder in the bar pool than the other pools and it was fine. We saw no reason to upgrade and were happy with what that gave us. We used the spa and had a nice massage and pedicure. I am 71 and took my 25 year old Granddaughter and it gave us both something to do. Our only real problem was that our door lock broke down and it required over 14 hours and 7 staff members to get into the room. They gave us a room in the other tower but we were without nightwear, toothbrushes, and medications. I believe that a sensible thing to have done was to offer us a package with at least a toothbrush and toothpaste or had the manager send us a note apologizing and perhaps adding a token amenity just to say-Hey, this isn't acceptable and we apologize. Upon checkout I asked for somekind of discount or something. I was sent to the concierge who gave me her email and promised me an upgrade next time I stayed. Not likely to happen as I am the traveller who always sees something down the road--somewhere to go next. I think for the money, this was a fine place for a week's all inclusive. Children were not a problem, weddings were going on, dancing was fun. Yes. the place needs a bit of a refurb but it was more than fine-Not a five star but still a 4 star in the older way of calculating these things. Hard to know where it would be in the eyes of the 30 and younger crowd.

“A Comfortable Stay with Little “WOW” Factor”

My boyfriend and I stayed over Valentine’s Day. This resort was a last minute change after we saw many couples getting sick at the resort we had originally booked. Check in was easy and I liked that we were able to get into our room right away. The premium rooms are spacious, but some items were a little dirty (curtains with stains, remote holder with residue, dust on the photos). The pool area is beautiful and the views from the room where spectacular. My biggest complaint was in regards to the food. The food was very poor quality and often had little variety from day to day. We enjoyed going over to the restaurant on the beach (not part of the resort) to have lunch or into town for dinner. We paid for all inclusive, yet rarely utilized it. Also, at all the other resorts (I have stayed at) bottled water is given out freely. They told us they didn’t have any, so we had to purchase a couple cases of water for around 350 pesos each. I liked that they have activities and music playing in the pool area, but it seems to get increasingly loud after 3pm. I like to relax before getting ready for a night out between 3-5pm but it is almost impossible due to the noise. I’m sure this is a great place for a first timer in Mexico, but this is no higher than a 3 star resort in my opinion.
