    “Clean but rather ordinary”

We only stayed one night here before flying to Luxor to join our Nile cruise. The hotel is clean but ordinary on a very busy, noisy street. There is compulsory electronic scanning at the front entrance for security purposes and the lobby was quite comfortable. There did not seem to be anything close by in terms of restaurants and so we ate at the rooftop restaurant at the hotel. The meal was pretty good but service a bit slow. Tourism seems to be down in Egypt since the revolution and we noticed that not all the restaurants in the hotel were open. The bedroom was clean and comfortable, the bathroom a bit small with the shower in a rather slippery bath (something of a hazard). We were given breakfast in a bag to take with us as we left so early for our flight. Not to put to fine a point on it, the food was inedible.

“Nothing to compare with, but nothing special”

We stayed three nights at the Barcelo Cairo Pyramids Hotel (2 nights and then 1 night with a one day break) in mid November 2017. As the title says I have nothing to compare against in Cairo, but as hotels in general go it was okay though nothing special. The rooms were quite reasonably sized, though the bathrooms were a bit tight. The small refrigerator did not work in our first 2 night room despite mentioning it to the front desk, though the second room fridge was at least cool enough to keep our bottled water nice and cold. The lobby and common areas had a nice appearance and seemed well maintained. Several choices for dining and the food was reasonable, though not something that we would seek out. The bathrooms here, at the hotel in Alexandria and on the Nile River cruise that we did were all equipped with shower-in-bath, and in each case the bath was deep, slippery, the step-out space restricted and overall a difficulty if you are short, have any form of mobility or balance issues. Take note of this if you are short or have mobility restrictions as it can be quite a hazard. Each room had individual air conditioning which seemed to work well enough, we were able to have our rooms at our desired comfort level which was a good thing. The hotel is located about 3km east of the Great Pyramid, on an extremely busy road (what road in Cairo isn't?) but there wasn't much else immediately at hand. It was an ongoing source of amusement to sit in the lobby and watch people come and go through the compulsory electronic scanning gate at the main entrance. Staff sat at the monitoring station apparently doing absolutely nothing as various people set off the (metal?) sensor with an accompanying 'beeep beeep' alarm and then strolled happily on into the inner sanctums of the hotel unchallenged. Guess it gave someone a job at least. The streets surrounding the hotel are choked with traffic for what seemed to be about 20 hours a day. In Cairo it is a requirement to drive with one hand on the horn at all times, so at any moment there are several hundred car horns blaring simultaneously outside your window. Given the dirt, chaos, apparent corruption etc in Cairo I will not be back, so will not be able to give any further comparison.

    “Nice hotel but...”

Had to spend a half hour after check in cleaning the room. Dirty footprints on the floor, toothpaste on the bathroom mirror, cup rings on the bedside table, dirt on all the light switches. Cleaning is not a top priority in any hotel we stayed at in Egypt. Beautiful rooms, helpful staff, good location.

    “Nice Hotel”

The hotel is quite nice and great value. It has a nice rooftop bar and pool, good food and friendly staff. The location is in Giza close to the pyramids and local shops nearby. The hotel is a little tired by western standards but good and I would recommend staying here. You usually have a guide so the location doesn't really matter and the staff are very friendly and try to assist you in ever way.
