Barceló Huatulco reviewed by Amy G on . Would definitely come here again - but free wifi would get me there faster Resort - clean, well maintained, lots of staff working hard. We did not buy the premium package of $35 US extra a day. This would have given us access to premium alcohol, and slippers in the room... Rating: 5

“Great resort, but the medical service is meh”

We just got back after staying at the resort for a full week. The hotel is wonderful, food is good (although a little too greasy at times), staff is always very nice and willing to go the extra mile for you! Our maid Veronica was amazing and kind, she was worried for my mom (since she got sick while being there) and wanted to help out in any way she could. The one thing that required further attention is the medical service. When my mom got sick we called the medical service, the Dr came right away and was very attentive (on the first visit, since he charged us $1000 pesos for the consult) but what he prescribed didn't work. later on the trip since my mom was not improving and we had bought medical insurance i called and they ended up sending the same dr, but this time since he wasn't going to charge due that the consultations were included his attitude was not the best, and was almost rude. While going to fill the prescription people commented that charges excessively, specially to foreign tourists. If you are calling him it's because of an emergency and he shouldn't try to make profit of it.

    “Spring Break 2017”

Amazing beach and water, friendly staff, unto date and clean facilities, good food, safe clean town. Only 300 some rooms keeps the resort small and from overcrowding. Vendors don't hassle you and didn't see any beggars in town. Worth the upgrade to the premium room...comes with free room service, great view, premium alcohol and access to premium lounge which is away from the business of the hotel.

    “Great time at Barcelo”

I loved it once again....kids had great time making a lot of friends, overall I knew what to expect and didn't get disappointed. Food was good, everyone is friendly. Steak in Mexican restaurant was delicious and bit the other ones by far this time! They can work on some improvements with entertainment for kids and adults but still great job - Disney show was fav of my kids. Beach is great, but I didn't have much time spent there - majority was around the pool as kids are glued to the pool area mostly:) Overall, kids are happy and it makes me happy. People are working hard making our vacation enjoyable and it's nice to come home wanting to go back there again. Thank you Barcelo!

“Hot Sun, Beautiful Area, Nice Facility, Great Hardworking Workers including Fernando C!”

We just spent a great week (3/11-3/18) in Huatulco, Mexico at the Barcelo. Upon landing, we were on our bus in 25m after going thru customs and getting our bags. The ride to the Barcelo is about 20m. We did Club Premium which provided some value to us. PREMIUM- When you enter the lobby at the hotel, go to the left to the Club Premium room for check in(very easy). Oscar and Claudia did a great job at the desk in taking care of all of our needs during the week. Claudia even showed me a suite for future considerations. We were provided Wifi pass codes for all of our devices and made unlimited reservations at the Spanish and italian Restaurants. I have been to most resort destinations in Mexico and this was the best Wifi I have had to date. Jayme Ramirez was there to assist with beverages and did a great job. LOBBY- Nice area with a lobby bar. There were nice breezes flowing thru during the day and live music in the evenings. Great service by Bibiano. Nice artwork in the lobby area by Susan Rubin. ROOM- Our room was an Oceanfront ground level (133) just steps from the pool and the beach. Everything was great with our room but one thing was odd....even if the shower door was perfectly shut, water would still seep out to the bathroom floor(no biggie, there was a drain to dispose of it). Vero Jimenez took care of us all week. Her service was great and she was very accommodating in cleaning at different times of the day based on our activities. She and the beverage cart guy kept our fridge well stocked (water, reg and diet coke, reg and lt Corona, chips, etc..). BEACH/Activities- Nice waves rolling in. Fairly steep down to the water and sand is pretty coarse and can be pretty hot. Water activities house is to the left at edge of the property. We did the free Catamaran out to the end of the bay(25M round trip). Also, Dreams Resort is to the left of the Barcelo and can feed the fish over by the rocks. To the right, a small property right beside the Barcelo and Quinta Real(timeshare) by the rocks to the right. RESTAURANTS/BARS- Breakfast/Lunch, we always ate at the Tortuga which is out by the beach area. The restroom part turned in to the Italian Rest. at night. The bar part is accessible from the restaurant side with a few bar stools, on the sides by the pools( and has water and virgin flavors), and from the water as a swim up bar. Also, there are tables/chairs right outside the restaurant that are shaded. BREAKFAST- Ommelettes/fried eggs at the grill are were good. Great fresh fruits. Most of the other just ok. LUNCH- Mostly ate fresh grilled with choices of chicken, pork chops, beef, and fish. Also, can get tortillas and grilled veggies. The fried, breaded fish was good in the buffet too. I don't have the names of the gal at breakfast or the two guys at lunch but they do a great job at the grills. DINNER- Only did the buffet the first and last night. Struggled with it the first night but the "Fiesta" was great Friday night. Location is right below the lobby with indoor and outdoor seating. SPANISH REST.- Good both times. Great service by Fernando Avila. ITALIAN REST.- Good both times. Great service by Alexander, Victor Leon, and Edwardo Aquilar. POOL AREA- We hung out in the two rows close to the beach but still on the pool deck. The seating goes all the way from the left at the Tortuga to the far right. You are looking at the ocean waves crashing. Right behind you are the pools. Both are just steps away. The best part about this area is the guy that works this area. His name is FERNANDO CATALAN. He always has a smile and checks on you constantly. His service is outstanding and I believe my favorite in all the years we have visited Mexico. Also, Benjamin was great in the area by the family/adult pool areas. GYM- Attached to the spa area. Fairly well stocked with free and machine weights. Also, had treadmills and 3 ellipticals(crammed in a corner). Had a nice locker room with sauna and steam shower. Tennis courts right outside the gym. HUATULCO/LA CRUCECITA- The area is beautiful with beaches and ocean on one side and mountains on the other side. The area is very safe and the people very friendly. We did go to La Crucecita one morning. There is a cute town square with restaurants and shops and also shops if you venture out a couple blocks in the different directions. The cab ride was $3 or so from the Barcelo. Also, we walked across the street from the Barcelo where there is a coffee shop, a few gift shops, a c store/pharmacy, hotel plaza, and three restaurants. We ate at the Alibrijes on our anniversary the 16th. Isreal had a welcome sign acknowledging it and we had a great dinner of ribs, steak, and shrimp. Thank you all for a great week. I look forward to returning to the Huatulco area and would be glad to stay at the Barcelo again too.

Dear Goingonarumrun Thank you very much for your visit and for this very complete review of your experience in our hotel, it is very pleasant to know that you enjoyed our facilities and services, we thank you for choosing Premium level services, these are a very attractive offer of benefits for our customers, we hope you had the opportunity to enjoy each of them, we appreciate that the wifi service has been to your liking, we are in an upgrade process and we have recently increased the speed and bandwidth. In most areas of the hotel we have the work of the painter Susana Rubín who has a great talent and if you are interesting of one of them can be purchased at a reasonable price. We will review the drainage of the room that you mentioned, the glass doors were placed to avoid this problem, but we have already informed our maintenance area to take care of immediately, we will gladly send your comments to Vero she performs a great job as well our maids to have clean and comfortable rooms every day. Congratulations on participating in activities and water sports is a very fun way to get to know Tangolunda Bay, which is one of the best in the area, although it tends to be a little steep and with moderate to strong waves, It has amazing views and beautiful sunsets. I hope that in the gym you have found everything you need to exercise, although it is small but it is very complete and with varied options that are complemented by our massage service. We appreciate that our gastronomic offer has been to your liking, we work every day looking for new and attractive options to place in our buffet restaurants and a la carte, always with fresh options of different parts of our Mexico without forgetting the local options. We will you’re your recognition to Fernando Catalán he has become the favorite of our guests for the service that he offers in the pools and beach, always with cordiality, punctuality and respect, he is really a great collaborator. The crucecita is undoubtedly a place that none of our visitors should miss, because it preserves that Mexican flavor with varied options of typical food, the church of the center with the largest Virgin of Guadalupe of all Latin America painted on the roof , Mezcal shops, handicrafts and above all, because in Huatulco everything is a step away, surrounded by security and friendly people always ready to help. We thank you for your confidence and preference, as well as this opportunity to share with us and other travelers your experience in this beautiful destination and especially in this your home, we invite you to next time you decide to take your vacation, to visit us again and let us be your hosts. Best regards Luis R. Avelar Director General Barceló Huatulco
