    “Fourth Time Loyal Guest; Lots of Positive Upgrades to report”

    These last two annual stays have been under the Barcelo flag. I thought since it was our 4th time we might have some clout as to room location and dinner reservations. This was not the case and did not matter at all, though. The dinner reservation model actually causes stress and could be improved. The first few nights it seems you either get a 6:00 or 9:00 reservation. But when you look in the restaurants there are many open tables. It's a total gamble what you will get until you arrive. Barcelo remodeled and lightened up the rooms finishes. But the area carpet on either side of the bed is soiled. They put new refrigerators in the TV cabinet but they do not get cold inside. A big thing for us is the air conditioning controls were changed and the temp would not go below 75 degrees in the room regardless of the setting which at night was too hot. Physically the premises is much better with new white railings and fixtures which were rusty before. Some fountains work and others don't. The food is very good but the service, although professional in appearance, is spotty. They have really upgraded the entertainment and the Dancing Divas at the pool who appeared twice in our week during the late afternoon were great fun. The fact is it's a beautiful place in a great location, and no, nothing is perfect. Overall, except for the temperature issues, the resort is physically much nicer than I can remember. They have eliminated pesky birds by using a predator hawk contractor who walks the property. It has worked perfectly and this is a major upgrade to outside activity including breakfast & lunch. Everything else is great and we keep coming back. It's Mexico--it's not perfect. Stay here and enjoy.

    “Last minute getaway to Mexico”

    My husband and I recently decided to try a new resort in the Riviera Mayan. We usually travel to our favorite resort near Tulum but thought this time we would stay in Playa del Carmen. Our travel agent recommended the Royal Hideaway and we weren't disappointed with the decision at all! The resort was beautiful and the service was superior. One special shout out to Cesar who ensured everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing stay. It's staff like Cesar who make all the difference in creating a positive experience when visiting a resort for the first time.

    “February trip”

    This is a wonderful place. Ignore the negative reviews. The grounds are just wonderful. The staff is great. My wife and I thought that the restaurants were just great. The rooms were very clean and spacious.

    “Enchanting, exclusive and peaceful hotel.”

    We decided to treat ourselves by going to the Royal Hideaway Playacar and enjoyed every minute of it! From the moment we arrived at the airport to the moment we left, the staff made us feel special. A private van brought us to the hotel were we were greeted with sparkling wine and a more than welcome warm towel. No bracelet in that resort which added an extra feeling of freedom! Then the manager gave us a virtual tour of the resort on his iPad. But it did not do justice to the beauty of the garden which brought us great pleasure every day during our stay. The garden was beautifully maintained and designed with little bridges, benches, and streams of water running everywhere. We met local animals like iguanas, lizards and agoutis, not to mention beautiful birds which added to the wonder of the resort. The hotel was renovating when we went in November 2016 and the Club Royale and the Grill were closed as well as a few buildings. Although there were some construction noise in certain areas when you were in the gardens, the rooms (freshly renovated) were very comfortable, clean and very quiet allowing us to nap during the day. Unfortunately it was too noisy to enjoy our balcony. The resort is designed in such a way that you have secluded areas with small pools surrounded by tropical trees and plants that allow you to relax and get some privacy. One of our best moments was our morning meditation by the pool of the SPA while soaking up the sun and listening to the birds. The food was very upscale, no buffet, always served by charming staff. As vegetarians/vegans we enjoyed the fact that they had almond milk and menus offering vegetarian options. However, as the menus did not change during the week, we felt a bit limited after a few days. Thankfully, the chef at Las Ventanas was kind enough to make us a special vegetarian dinner on our last night which was both creative and delicious. The Palazzo restaurant was romantic and very good and we had the pleasure to meet and be served by one of the most amazing waiter we have ever met: Alejandro Solis who contributed to make our two dinners there memorable and so much fun! The Grill by the beach was closed during our stay due to renovations but it was not a problem because the restaurant Spices had beautiful views of the beach and a large terrasse anyway. We went to the freshly renovated and bright gym facing a swimming pool, and to the SPA and highly recommend both! The SPA was an amazing intimate experience with small luxury locker rooms including hammam, sauna, shower, candles... You can easily plan half a day there as you also have access to a an outside pool. The massage was a delight. My advice: book at the beginning of your stay as you might want to go back! Each building has a concierge. Sara Antimo was ours and she gave us an exceptional customer service! Everyday we were greeted with a smile, a nice word, a little note in the bedroom, always helpful and going the extra mile to surprise us and make our stay memorable. I ordered some flowal arrangements in the room and a massage to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and she went over and above by adding additional little surprises like ballons, rose petals and inform the SPA so that after the massage they offered us a glass of sparkling wine and chocolate covered strawberries which was a lovely thought. Finally the beach was wonderful. It was very large and very long - we walked to Playa del Carmen which took us approx 30-40min. We read reviews about seaweed and were a bit concerned about it but there is really nothing to worry about! The beach is cleaned regularly and that area of the beach is very clean. We enjoyed the fact that the staff is serving on the beach and helping with the set up of your chair or bed. The only minus for us was the loud and repetitive music with aggravating freestyle jazz in the morning in Las Ventanas. Something smooth and calm especially in the morning would be better suited for an upscale resort like this. Overall we felt like royalty and loved our stay! Thank you very much to the whole team and keep up the great work!

    “"Amazing food! Wonderful trip"”

    Stayed 9 days starting Super bowl Sunday. Check in was smooth, and our room was ready. The resort is on the small side which made for a nice relaxing time. There are no elevators and some of the villas are 3 story. The pool staff were amazing! Ceaser, John & David went over and above to make us feel at home. remembering our names was a nice bonus. The pools themselves were very nice with great views of the ocean! The rooms were nice and the evening turn down service was appreciated. There is a nice shopping area right across the street which was very convenient. The dinners were outstanding! best we have had at an all inclusive. The restaurant staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menus items. We really liked the asian restaurant with the excellent sushi! Every restaurant was amazing from the appetizers to desert! We booked a cenote swim and snorkel trip through the hotel and would highly recommend it! All in all a great vacation!
