    “Wonderful getaway”

In mid- July, my husband and I went to Royal Hideaway for a vacation together. It was so great!! Our room was cool and very comfortable. It had a big patio with chairs for us to lounge in. Upon arrival, there was a nice bowl of fruit on our table inside, and every person we interacted with in the lobby was wonderful! We could really tell things ran smoothly around here. Our personal concierge, Camilla was helpful every day with any questions we had. We found the beach to be super clean and nice, especially with the sun shades! We never had to fight for a spot. Find a spot at the pool was hard, because as some have said, people scout them very early. However, while walking around we found 4 other "hidden" pools!! They weee small but always surrounded by palm trees and no one else was in them! We enjoyed the solitary nature of these much more than the big activity pool. The beach bar line always moved quickly and the bartenders were super nice! We REALLY enjoyed the food too! The only restaurant we didn't care for was the Italian, but parts of it were definitely good. Just overall the experience wasn't as good as the other restaurants. Ventanas is amazing! My husband doesn't drink and really appreciated every server offering NA drinks and different fruits in his sparkling water. We can't wait to come back!! Also, the nightlife was super fun. The main bar that stayed open late was almost like a local watering hole. Small entertainment happened nightly and it was interesting to watch. If I could change one thing about our experience, I would have made the tv have more premium channels. But honestly, we did just fine without them!

    “Run away”

For an all inclusive hotel this is not the choice you want to go with. The upgraded rooms are basically the same thing as the regular rooms. Nothing amazing. The beach isn't great at all. Don't let the pictures fool you. Food is terrible. Drinks are terrible. Beach service is terrible. This hotel is terrible.

    “Third trip and awesome!”

Just returned from third trip in as many years to Royal Hideaway. This year was a quick trip, and happened to be in the middle of the tropical storm, but we didn't let that dampen the mood. Since last year the positive changes were the refreshing of the rooms and the upgrading of The Deck. The room layout did not change, but a fresh coat of paint, some new furniture, and removal of the heavy dark wood louvers helped to brighten the room! The new cover at The Deck is awesome, and makes it more usable when the sun is beating down. Service is still top notch, and it is fun to see some of the same faces each year. I always get nervous leading up to a trip when I start seeing bad reviews. This year there were two other couples with us that were at the resort for the first time so I was hoping everything would be great, and I was not disappointed. I can only address some of the common things that come up in the reviews. 1. Dinner reservations. Yep, you need them. I can't figure out why people are so surprised by this. I got mine 10 days in advance, for 6 of us, and it was simple. If you are familiar enough with TA to be leaving reviews, don't tell me you didn't read them as well and know that making reservations was necessary. 2. "The restaurants were half empty, why can't I just go in and eat?" Well, because this isn't a mega resort. They have the resort staffed so that they can provide service in all the restaurants for an entire evening. I suppose they could fill every restaurant to capacity, and at the same time have to triple staff and food costs, which would raise the price of the stay. 3. "I can't believe they require you to dress up for dinner." Again, if you are leaving a review about that, don't tell me you didn't read the hundreds of other reviews that talk about that. Personally I think it is cool that everyone gets dressed up for dinner. 4. "It is so quiet / Not enough entertainment" Yep, that is how they roll. They don't have an animation team to entertain you. That isn't what this place is about. It seems like every negative review addresses these things. If this isn't for you, there are about 100 other resorts in the area that may fit. If it isn't for you and you ignore all the reviews you read before booking, well, I don't know what to tell you. It is true, this resort isn't for everyone. This is for couples who want to have a relaxing vacation, enjoy great food and drink, and relax. This is not a big party resort. Nothing wrong with big party resorts, this just isn't one of them.

    “Royal Hideaway August 2017”

7 Days vacation. We're traveling to Cancun / Playa del Carmen area 3 time per year, so I have a lot of experience.. 1. Location: Very good location - Playacar is very nice clean and safe. 2. Hotel: Very nice lobby, good rooms and comfy sleeping 3. Service: Very good with smiles 4. Pool - Never using pool at the resorts... swimming in the sea 4. Beach Area: need improvement, new Loungers needed and some palapas for shade. 5. Food - Here is biggest problem of this resort !!! Especially Deck Restaurant. Chef / F&B Manager needs to look into this problems. Food quality and variety is VERY poor and not up to 5* LHW standards. Will I got back? Yes, if food improved !

“Excellent Staff, Good Food, Great Getaway!”

First time at an all-inclusive and first time in Mexico. My mother and I booked this hotel as a getaway after I took the bar exam and it was wonderful! All the people were extremely friendly and helpful, especially our concierge Gerardo, who helped us book dinners, tours, and massages. He also made sure we were checked in to our departure flight and printed our tickets for us. There were a few misses with food but most of it was very good. Azia was simply amazing! Best food by far! The sushi and salmon was delicious and our waiter Aristeo was funny and engaging. We went here on our last night and had we gone earlier we would have just booked a reservation there each night. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffets in the morning. The servers were very attentive and the options were all very tasty. The Mexican night dinner show was also spectacular. The dancing and music was fantastic and the food was good. Spices was our least favorite as we felt the food was not very good, though the restaurant was beautiful. The one recommendation I would have is to add more Mexican dishes to the menu! I wanted to try more Mexican cuisine than was offered. We ate lunch at the Grill everyday and the best food I had there were the fajitas and burrito. We spent a lot of time by the pool and beach. The pool was very nice and we loved doing the water exercise class every afternoon with Yas and Brallan. They made it very fun and it was a great way to get to know other guests. The poolside servers were very friendly and we enjoyed the cocktails as well. Walking down the beach, I felt the Royal Hideaway and one of the better beach set-ups. Being a smaller hotel, there were not massive lines of chairs but enough for all the guests to enjoy and each set of chairs had a hood for shade that was very nice. It was also very clean and there were a variety of beach activities offered for guests to participate in. I also have to say that the massages we had at the Royal Hideaway Playacar were the absolute best we have ever had. We each had 50 minute Swedish massages with Sandra and Ana. It was simply divine. The rooms were comfortable and relaxing with nice music. Our massage therapists were polite and very concerned about our comfort and experience. I would go back to this hotel just for the massages! We enjoyed our room as well. It was clean, comfortable, and beautiful. We even had flowers put in our room on our second day. Some other reviews complained of the A/C not working but ours was fine. The shower water temperature fluctuated a bit but that wasn't a big deal to us. The only thing that we did not enjoy was our experience with Bambu Tours when we visited the Mayan ruins at Tulum. Our concierge booked us through Bambu because we wanted a shorter excursion than the one offered by the tour company located at the hotel. In short, they were half an hour late picking us up and we got back at close to 3 pm, three hours after we were told we would be back and an hour after the hotel's tour company would have been back. This was more the tour company's fault than the hotel, but I wouldn't recommend guests book through Bambu Tours or that concierge use them for guests wanting shorter excursions. I still give the hotel 5 stars though, because I really don't feel this was their fault and everything else was simply wonderful. Overall we had a very lovely trip and would love to return to Playa del Carmen and the Royal Hideaway!
