“Problably the best at the Costa de la Luz, but some minor points to improve”

We enjoyed our stay in the Royal Hideaway during one week. There are several spotless clean swimming pools in the very lush and beautiful garden (one adults only pool, important for couples looking for a little bit quietness: depending tot he period of your stay there can be a lot of children!). Access to the large and amazing beach is via a pleasant walk through the gardens. You can drink some apéritif or coctail in the Sunset coctail bar or in the La Zumeria bar: we prefered the Sunset coctail bar, partially looking to the sea and and, sometimes, the noisy children’s entertainment. To our experience, quality of drinks is very good (however, it was a real challenge to obtain the French drink Pernod : the majority of the waiters only understand Spanish….). In general, the level of service is very good. We observed however that when checking in there was not a single word of explanation about the equipment of the large and spatious room, no welcome drink …somewhat stupendous for a 5 * label hotel (and quite common in 5* label hotels in Asian, African or Caribian resorts). You have to find it out by yourself! Another minor point was the very slow bar service at the adult swimming pool. We had several lunches in La Bahia Beach club (outstanding fish dishes) and dinner in the Almadraba Buffet (stylish buffet with abundant choice of fish, meat, vegetables, sweets, desserts….): quality of food is superb and very tasty. In spite of the rather windy situation at the sunset, we prefered to take dinner outside. To our opinion, it was to noisy inside the Almadraba restaurant (rather feeling of a canteen). Quality of the available wines is very good and prices are more than reasonable. Breakfast also in the Almadraba restaurant: also very abundant, tasty and varied. We much enjoyed the Andalucian horse and flamenco show (always on Friday). In short, we can recommend this hotel but there are some minor points the hotel should improve.

“Great for beach, relaxation, and no crowds”

We travelled as a family of five with a 12, 16 and 18 year old and took two rooms overlooking the pool with a sea view. The hotel is 45 mins from Jerez airport and is fairly isolated so without a car you are resigning yourself to staying in and around the hotel which was exactly what we wanted as we just wanted to chill out for a week. The hotel booked the transfers for us and they worked out well. If you are after more lively activities and sights to see then perhaps this isn't the ideal location unless you are willing to drive a bit. That said there is a kids club (suited to under 10s), surf school, bowling alley and a number of organised activities for kids and grownups if you wanted. We played tennis a couple of times at a nearby tennis club and the hotel drove me and my son back and forth as it was too far to walk; that was a nice touch. My wife and I also did the rooftop spin class one morning which was fab (if you like that sort of thing) sweating our way through 45 mins of music with views out over the ocean as the morning sun made itself known. For reference the gym is also really well appointed and the spa looks great although we only had a look and didn't use. One of the main things that struck us generally about our stay was the lack of crowds. This isn't an all inclusive hotel and there is no pre-booking sunbeds so there is a more chilled out vibe and the range of pools (there are five) means that it was never crowded at any of them. At times the ratio of life guards to swimmers was one:one! Given the fact that breakfast was pretty busy you wondered where all these people went during the day. Perhaps it was to the beach which is a short walk away and is really nice - warm waters, good waves and plenty of space plus bars and restaurants. The food at the hotel was a very high standard and as we were half board we used the buffet most evenings. Sometimes "buffet" can mean low quality but in the case of the Royal Hideaway it meant a sumptuous choice of great food, fabulous breakfasts with a juice bar and fresh pancakes, and a grill, a BBQ and huge range of desserts on offer. We did try the other restaurants which were also very nice, though the kids found the service in the Braseria (grilled meat and fish) so slow that they got a bit bored. It would have been fine for a relaxed dinner for two though. Rooms were a good standard with modern, comfortable beds, well appointed bathrooms and very efficient air conditioning. The hotel staff were all very nice although you will have to be patient if you are a Brit in Spain expecting everyone to speak English as, refreshingly, there aren't a lot of fluent English speakers. Personally I liked this and making all the family try a bit harder with their Spanish phrases was part of the charm of the week. In that regard, the hotel is mostly Spanish with a few British families and a few German. This means the pace is a lot slower and relaxed - great if you are after that sort of thing (we were) but it also means service can seem slow by comparison to UK or US hotels. Overall I would highly recommend the Royal Hideaway if you are after a chilled out time and don't get bothered by relaxed service pace and aren't looking for a hotel filled with English speakers.

    “Dangerous”

This hotel is a nightmare! In the selfmade chocolate they offered we had a very big stone in it!!!! They sad this can happen and gave us some other chocolates as compensation!!! But the most wondering thing is that you can get a towel in a 5 star hotel just inwhile a special time! We should go Long wayto the reception to maybe get a towel!!!!!! What the hell is that??!!! We had to take used towels from neighbors and that for 500€/night! Avoid this hotel "loco-loco"!

    “Nice hotel”

The Hotel with the facilities is nice, good situated and clean. During the Weekend the Hotel and especially the pool area was more than crowded. We had quite severe Problems with our key Cards for the our rooms and also for the gate to and from the beach. We had to Exchange them five times! Not very appreciated from my Family!
