    “A very good family hotel”

Great for families with young children. Food average - I would have preferred to eat out more as it wasn't always hot in the evening. The taster menu was fantastic and lunch in the pool bar was good if you order fresh, the all inclusive choices that are out pre made are not great. All inclusive drinks are good. Facilties and rooms are constantly clean. Double rooms are on the small side especially with a travel cot but you quickly get used to it. Would I stay again - Yes!

“No assistance or compassion for an injured child.”

Our daughter fell badly whilst playing on the hotel playground. Immediately an egg shaped bump appeared on the front of her head. Panicked we rushed her to reception explaining what had happened and we were casually informed a doctor can be called, it would take 30-40 minutes for him to arrive and would be 80€. This seemed to be their only response, our daughter was extremely upset but the way reception acted showed they did not care about our daughter being injured on their hotel grounds. Not one member of staff asked what had happened. Where? How? We had to press for more action and asked if there was a hospital that we could take her to and not have to wait. The staff discussed requests in Spanish and then responded. All the while our child is visibly upset to the point she was vomiting. Finally reception called a cab and verbally gave us a number but failed to explain we needed to take note of the number as this was a reference number for the cab. When our cab turned up he was walking up and down the entrance looking for us as we were outside. We then stopped him and he explained we needed a reference number. We went back to reception and asked why they had not explained and requested the reference number which they had put in the bin. Badly handled with no urgency, sympathy or efficiency in an already stressful situation. After we had been seen at the hospital we tried to call a taxi to return to the hotel. Due to a party in a nearby town all cabs were taken! We were advised by the hospital security that our best option was to call the hotel as they have more clout with local taxi companies . we called the hotel to request help after a 3 hour stay in a&e only to get told there was nothing they could or even try to do. We had another 1 hour wait with a now tired, hungry and injured 2 year old before we could finally get a cab. Complete disregard for the wellbeing of their little guests and anxious parents. Any other hotel would of made a priority to collect their guests. When we arrived back you would have thought the news of an injured child would of filtered to senior management. Nothing. No they did not even approach us. Very poor for a hotel claiming to be 'child friendly'. The next night our daughter was still not feeling bright and was off her food so around 930pm she said she was hungry and wanted a biscuit so i went to the restaurant. The restaurant closes at 1030pm. On entering the restaurant, i asked for something for her and was refused by one of the ladies who greet you on entering the restaurant. When i replied if she was joking - this was a kid friendly hotel after all. I was not requesting a sit down meal surely the customer comes first? The two ladies on reception started to look at each other as they noticed other families were now curious of what was being discussed and she relented. All for a biscuit! Front of house staff need better training and awareness. They need to understand the concept of child friendly....and just how far that extends. The simple and basic fact they did not care that a 2 year old badly injured herself on their premises and did not follow up with their parents to see how it happened and ensure another child is not injured is totally unacceptable. We have been lucky to have travelled extensively and have never seen any hotel pay little due regard. 12 Aug - 19 Aug.

Dear Guest: We sincerely appreciate the time you spent to share your comments following your visit to our Barceló Occidental Menorca hotel, our guests' feedback is of utmost importance to ensure our demanding standards of service at all times, please accept our sincere apologies for any inconsistency you may have experienced during your stay. Regarding the incident you descriebed, we all are really sorry if the of the hotel doesn´t fulfil your expectations. Please receive our most sincere apologies for not fulfilling your expectations in this situation. The involved department have been informed about your comments and we are sure they will help us to improve. On the other hand, we would like to explain our protocol to follow in these cases, as you said when a guest is injured like your child did and if you need a doctor we allways inform the faster service to provides. As you said, that day due to the local festivities in Menorca it was to call the private doctor, who lives in the neighbarhood, the faster way to help you at that time. As the recepcionits allways inform, that the taxis services are slower to come to he hotel and therefore it took time to take you to the hospital. Although, we can not control taxis services, we try to do our best in calling taxis on a hurry, we regret reading of your disappointment with taxis services. Please be assured your comments regarding the service you received at the main restaurant that night has been discussed with our Maître so as to prevent these kind of situations to reoccur in the future and we sincerely apologize for failing to meet your expectations on this occasion. Although, it do not seem to quite match with the usual feedback that we receive both on this support and onsite, for a future stay, please do not hesitate to voice your concerns and approach the management team to inform us of the service imperfection you report on your review, we will be more than pleased to assist for you to fully enjoy your holidays among us.  Please be assured that your comments will be taken into serious consideration and that they will help us to improve our services. Once again, thank you for your time and despite the issues you have raised following your stay, we hope that Barceló will remain an option for your next holiday and that we will have the opportunity to restore your faith in our company in the near future. Kind Regards Guest Experience Manager

“A great hotel in a naff resort”

We hadn't originally booked this hotel but the hotel we chose was overbooked and they arranged for us to stay at the Occidental. Having seen the location of our chosen hotel, we were very glad it was overbooked as there was less there than in Punta Prima and that is saying something! The hotel is lovely; the rooms are clean, comfortable and well furnished and all of the public areas are very clean and well maintained. There are lots of facilities and lots of activities on offer. Unlike most guests we were on half board and not all inclusive. The food was very good with a lot of variety both at breakfast and dinner. As the hotel seems to cater mainly for families with young children, the restaurant could be quite chaotic at times but we soon discovered that it was much more relaxing if we ate outside on the terrace. However, there did seem to be an issue with wasps on the terrace especially at breakfast time. Punta Prima is very small with very little to see or do. The main promenade area with a few restaurants and shops is about 200m long and I really missed being able to go for a walk in the evenings. Public transport options are very limited with one bus an hour to and from Mahon and the last bus from Mahon leaves at 11pm. Taxis are almost impossible to find so if you want to get out and about to explore you will definitely need a car.

    “Excellent Stay”

Very Good Hotel – Excellent stay! Just got back from a seven night stay at this Hotel on an All Inclusive package staying with my Partner & 12 year old daughter It ticked all the boxes for a typical 4 star Hotel – Just as expected Very modern style and located in the quiet resort of Punta Prima. A short stroll to the beautiful beach. Please note the pool area is a lot nicer than it appears in the brochures, don’t be deceived thinking otherwise. Very modern pool and pool area. Note the pools are not very deep though so not good if you like diving. Think 1.5m approx. is the deepest. Drinks did at times appeared basic on A.I. and most Cocktails with added charges. Food was great and you can eat and drink all day from 0730 – 2400 if you so wish. You could have one reservation at the Hotel restaurant if you wished but we stuck with the Buffet as this suited my 12 year old daughter to a T Excellent Buffet restaurant and excellent Pool bar which Opens at ten and closes at 2400 – Ice Cream for the Kids was 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. and snacks all day until 6p.m. All the Staff was great and the place was very clean at all times Bar Staff and Restaurant Staff work very hard on are always happy to help The reservations team fulfilled my requests on the room – We stayed in room 5308 in the Blue block. The room was east facing with great views of the sea and Pools and lovely sunshine in the morning. Down side of the room was the balcony is enclosed so you had to stand to see any view. But worth it! WI FI Great We had to pay a deposit for the Key to operate the safe deposit box but you got this back and you also had to pay a deposit for the pool towels but all refunded on check out. Overall a very nice place and would recommend to anyone Downsides? - It appeared to have a lot of young families (children/babies) staying during our stay which appeared unusual. Push chairs everywhere - Entertainment could have been a bit livelier and the pool/ pool bar area missed music. Evening shows were a bit medioca. We did have live bands on outside around the Pool bar on 2 nights so this was great. Would I stay again - YES

Dear Guest : Thank you for making our Barceló Occidental Menorca your choice hotel on this occasion and for your very kind recommendation to the travel community of Tripadvisor, this positive feedback keeps us motivated to encounter the compliance of our demanding quality standards. We have taken good note of your comments on the music by the pool and sincerely lament the disturbances caused and will not fail to share your comments with our head of entertainment for information and further revision, at Barceló we believe that leisure and sport activities are part of the real holiday feeling but also understand that not all guests are willing to take part into our entertainment program therefore we always ensure that an area of the hotel remains noise free for those guests who prefer to relax and read. On the other hand, we are thrilled you enjoyed our facilities and that your daughter, had enjoyed too our creative new concept of children entertainment, as well as our All Inclusive type of meal plan, allowing our guests to take advantage of our different bars and restaurant throughout the day and are grateful for your highlight on the quality of the products and drinks including in its board. Thank you also for mentioning how pleased you were with our complimentary WIFI service as we appreciate how important this aspect is for many of our guests these days for communication benefits. Once more we thank you for choosing our hotel for your holiday and very much look forward to having the opportunity to serve you again in the future. Best Regards Guest Experience
