Barceló Raval reviewed by Janine33 on . Barceló Bravo Good location. Easy to get to from the airport bus (takes about 30min from Place Catalunya). Was very cold when we were there so we did not venture from the hotel in the evenings. Good restuarants... Rating: 3

    “Great accommodation. Terrible restaurant!”

I stayed here with my gf for 2 nights. Room are great with lovely views of the city. Tiny pool but didn't matter in Feb I suppose. Great location! Can't fault the accommodation but the restaurant was terrible. Slow service, food came out cold and under cooked. We had to return the food which I have never done before. I had the raval burger which was just heated up and not replaced. You could see the bite I had take initially. Was disgusted by this and was put off by ever eating there again. Very annoyed as otherwise the hotel is lovely. Also annoyed as restaurant wasn't even busy and there are plenty of lovely restaurants just outside in the hotel.

    “Cool hotel”

We stayed here for five nights in February, in a superior room(for superior, read normal) for two. First, lets clear up a few misunderstandings I've read in other reviews - there is a separate loo, with a door! There is no lock on the door however. The door is a sliding mirrored door, which slides across the toilet cubicle, or the wardrobe space depending. Opposite the wardrobe space is a large shower cubicle, with fixed and hand held shower attachments. You can see into the bedroom via the mirrored door, but it doesn't work the other way round. Obviously there is not much privacy, but if you are sharing a room in the first place it would be assumed that you are going to be reasonably intimate in the first place. So if you are a travelling as friends, be prepared to go home knowing quite a lot more about your companion's habits than you initially may have done.. The washbasin is next to the shower, and forms part of the partition for the main room. It's a large basin, with plenty of supplied toiletries (including toothbrush and razor), but it does get a little messy and splashy, and there is nowhere to put the soap (which the maid insisted on changing every day for some reason). The bed was huge, and very comfortable - I asked for a different pillow at reception, and one was delivered within five minutes. In the standard rooms you do not get a coffee machine, just a kettle (slightly broken) and a few sachets of coffee and tea. Cleaning was done at different times of the day it seemed, but it was never a problem as we were out all day anyway - however, if you do plan on a few hours in the room the mass of tv channels advertised don't include any English speaking ones, other than news channels or ~DMAX (Aussie sheep farm program or some rufty tufty Americans beefing up their cars). The top floor is fab, with a wonderful view of the city, there are telescopes for extra close ups, and a small pool, little more than a dipping pool though. The bar wasn't open when we were there, but we knew this before we went - and you can take drinks up from the bar anyway. Speaking of the bar...nice layout, a bit slow with only one waiter when I ordered, and a little pricey. To be expected in a hotel bar, but beware - I got stung for 15 euros for a G&T as I was asked to choose which brand I wanted and neglected to ask for a local brand, so you might want to check prices first! We had a look downstairs at the fitness centre, I would recommend bringing a gym kit or swimsuit and making use of the sauna and exercise equipment, it all looked fantastic, even if we didn't get the chance to try it out. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant so I can't review the food. The area is a bit noisy, and a bit rough round the edges and this is something I was concerned about before we went, and as we first walked to the hotel from the metro. It is like most city centres these days though, multicultural, quite a large homeless population, and a lot of teenagers on skateboards ...actually, the average age of skateboarders seemed to be around 25, but whatever floats your boat! The hotel is around ten minutes walk from Las Ramblas, not far at all, even for my massively blistered feet! So many places to eat and drink, you'll be spoilt for choice. The shopping is good too, if that is your bag, lots of high end shops as well as more accessible ones. If you get a good exchange rate and a sale, you're laughing! We didn't have an issue with the hotel staff, they were pleasant and friendly. All in all, we had a great stay and would definitely stay again - but I think I would pay for the upgrade just to be higher up (and get my coffee fix!)

    “Great location”

Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Check in was quick and easy. We had abooked a superior room but were upgraded to de-luxe. Great bed and excellent sleep but washing etc is a headache for two people and design really needs looking at in this respect. Breakfast was really good and finding a table was never an issue. All the staff were friendly and courteous and service was excellent

Really liked this hotel, room was quite swish well designed with all facilities. Breakfast choice was excellent although the hot buffet wasn't so hot. The hotel is in a multicultural area with lots of different bars and cafes and only 5 minutes walk from LA Rambla. There is a roof terrace with great views of the city - free telescopes provided
