Occidental Jandía Playa reviewed by Zara A on . Did not enjoy being made to feel second best to 'premium club members' We have just arrived back from this hotel and the resort itself is very clean and maintained at a high standard. It is not on a beach front but you can see the beach from the sea view rooms but it's... Rating: 3

“great hotel in a great location”

we had a lovely weeks stay in this hotel in early march. Hotel is in a good position near the beautiful beach, close to local shops but not too far from Morro Jable ! Couldn't really fault hotel just go and enjoy it!

Hotel is very beautifull , There is very testy food for all ( for old people and children). Room are clean, warm swimmingpool and very nice animators group. Beautifull beach near hotel-just 10min near hotel.

    “Much needed winter break.”

The whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing from start to finish. Staff were on hand to help with transporting suitcases to my room. room was very welcoming smelling fresh and clean. Bathroom was immaculate. Room was serviced every day. The whole complex was easy to navigate, although there were plenty of steps and slopes. Easy access to shops and the beach.

“Needs updating and a better menu.”

Just got back from a week stay, first thing is it is a two hour transfer from the airport we had a sea view room which was ok but not in the main hotel , if you are not to good at walking up and down an uneven hilly path then don,t go! Food was ok if you like Pork as this seemed to be one of the main features of the menu, deserts were ok, but the bread always seemed to be dry. One other thing we had arranged on our morning of departure to have the luggage collected from our room this didn't, happen so we had to wheel our luggage up a steep hill to the main hotel area myself and my wife are in our 60s and fourtunately of average fitness, this could have been a problem for more elderly less mobile people, on arrival you are driven down to your block which was ok as the porter was expecting a tip! Weather was average but quite windy, entertainment was average compared to other Thomson hotels also there are two or three levels of all inclusive which is strange, and certain areas are restricted to the basic all inclusive clients. And finally plenty of Germans and eastern block holidaymakers which was quite funny to watch. Don't think we would return.

“An absolutely fantastic two week holiday.”

My wife and I have holidayed in the Canaries on many occasions. We have stayed on Fuerteventura often but never in the south of the Island. This time we decided to try Jandia and we were not disappointed. We booked our two weeks with Jet 2 Holidays and flew from Belfast International to Fuerteventura. We find Jet2 an absolutely superb airline with really well trained and friendly staff. We arrived at the Occidental Barcelona Jandia Playa after a one and a half hour transfer. The checking was friendly and efficient. We were thinking that the hotel would be too large for our taste and were a little concerned. We were escorted to our room in block 7 ( room 7114). The room was comfortable although a little dated. We had a comfortable bed ( twins),a little fridge and a flat screen t.v. We were disappointed to only receive BBC World and no BBC1 or ITV channels as we thought an hotel of this standard would have them. It was only at the end of our fortnight that we discovered that they were available but just not in our room. OUR FAULT! Our wall mounted clothes line was also broken and we just assumed that the cleaner would report it but that didn't happen. We just dried our swim suits etc on the balcony chairs. Not really a problem as the weather was superb. We were on half board simply to avoid eating and drinking too much on All Inclusive. We thought we would have in room tea/ coffee making facilities but none were available. Again not a problem as we had brought our own kettle. During our first week we received two bottles of water each day but none during our second week. We wondered why. We thought the bathroom was excellent. A large bath with great shower and plenty of hot water. Our room was serviced every day with new towels. No complaints at all. The food in the dining hall was really good. Breakfast choice was extensive as was dinner. We never tired of the food on offer during our two weeks but then we like chicken and pork! There were also plenty of other choices. The guests on half board had dinner in a separate section of the dining room and the system worked. We had to pay for our drinks as would be expected. We just felt that a bottle of water could have been complementary. One suggestion for the hotel is that a system should be introduced to signal that a table has been vacated. During busy periods at breakfast tables were abandoned for lengthy periods before staff realised that guests had left. The swimming pools were excellent. Three pools with the smaller one heated. All were great for swimming. There were plenty of comfortable sun loungers. I don't know why people felt they had to be out early to book them. Guests are asked not to book loungers. This should be enforced. No problem during our stay but would be annoying in high season. The highlight for us was the excellent animation team. We participated in Yoga, water aerobics and keep fit every day. The team were really friendly, empathetic and skilled. They were so so enthusiastic but not pushy. The shows in the evening were fun. We commend them all but especially Patricia, Anna, Mellisa and Dani. Thanks for sending us home much fitter. We loved you. Patricia is a wonder on the vertical pole! The area around the hotel is beautiful. The beach is spectacular and a walk (about 2 hours round trip) into the old town is memorable. There is a courtesy bus for those who wish to use it. We would be certain that this is one of the most beautiful regions on the Canary Islands. The hotel really suited us and our initial reservations that it might be too large and impersonal were unfounded. We loved it and intend to return.
