    “Excellent hotel”

We stayed here for one week in February with our two children, ages 7 and 4. The hotel is set in a steep hill overlooking the beach and consists of a main hotel building (mostly premium guests) and 9 smaller separate stand alone blocks with 30 or 40 rooms in each (mostly families stay here). The hotel grounds are very pleasant and well maintained with shrub borders, pools, an outdoor theatre, football pitch, tennis court, and children's play area. The hotel reception, bars, restaurant and entertainment are all in the main hotel building. The outdoor heated pool was a big hit for the children and easily warm enough to swim and lounge in, after you get over the initial chill feeling. Many of the hotel activities organised by animacion staff happened at the swimming pool or were arranged here before moving to another location. Our children particularly liked the archery, football and mini-golf all organised and supervised by animacion staff. The kids club was a separate facility that was mostly indoors (drawing and playing with blocks etc) and was mainly used by children aged 3 and under from what I could tell. The animacion staff also organised activities for adults and were very friendly but not intrusive. The mini-disco at 8pm every night was also a big hit for us, although it only seemed to last for 20 or 30 minutes - they could extend this or introduce some games for the children after the disco. We generally found the buffet food to be pleasant, but a bit repetitive after a few days. The snack bar seemed to serve fast food with burgers and chips etc. The bars were a bit crowded and pressured as other reviewers have mentioned. Our room was on the ground floor in block 6, a five minute hilly walk from the main restaurant etc. We had a few issues with cockroaches but nothing too serious, apart from that the room was clean, quiet and spacious. The reception was always busy any time that I visited and you had to queue for some time before getting any service. All in all we found Jandia Playa to be very pleasant for a young family. We also visited the sister hotel next door (Jandia Mar) to use the 18 hole mini-golf facility there (for a small charge). This hotel also looked pleasant enough and had a similar layout to Jandia Playa in many respects. It was unfortunate that Jandia Playa guests had to pay 5 euro per head to dine at Jandia Mar, given that both hotels are part of the same group. This would have been one way to get over the repetitive feel of the buffet food at Jandia Playa.

    “Enjoyable stay”

Overall had a very enjoyable holiday and loved the resort of Janida. Hotel I think is a 3 star and not a 4 star. The hotel is tired and in need of a little TLC. The dining experience was where it lacked and that is important to us. As already stated the lighting is HARSH and tables not always laid. At times you are stood around waiting for food to be replenished. The plus to the hotel are the staff, they are all friendly and hardworking. The lobby bar in particular have exceptional staff. Rooms, the beds and pillows are unbelievably comfortable which is a bonus! The rooms are dated but in no way does that spoil it for the amount of time we spend in there. Location, good walks both ways and beaches are stunning ! Good selection of bars and restaurants out and about. Will definitely come crack to this resort, would look at other hotels but on saying that if a good deal came back on this hotel would book again but be prepared on spending extra for eating out on occasions. A nice friendly 3/4 star hotel which offered decent value for money

    “Tolerable for a short break”

Check in.......took at least half an hour before being seen due to every man and his dog disgorging from coaches. A of a free for all. Some nationalities don't know the meaning of an orderly queue! However reception spoke very good English and gave very good directions to our room. Didn't see buggy or bell boy that other reviewers mention Room.....functional, comfy bed, great shower, very clean but being in block 7 meant a two day walk to the dining room, bar or reception. We did get fit Lobby bar........exceptionally busy, not enough staff, for queuing see reception!!! It was nice to sit outside of an evening BUT you are assailed by clouds of nicotine so work out wind direction before selecting seat. Good range of local drinks but you have to pay for brands. If you drink paint stripper try the "whisky" The restaurant..........obviously a converted 747 hangar. Noise level around 230 decibels. Vast selection of food, very good salad and fruits. If you like pork or fish you be in your element, so we went semi-veggie for the week. We had flash fry steaks one evening which would have been of more use to a cobbler. Lovely beach reached by a 1 in 4 gradient aka "THE HIll". We certainly got fit. If you are of a delicate disposition beware.......nudism was prevalent on the beaches Take stout walking shoes or boots if you like walking as there is an excellent national footpath leading up into the mountains right behind the hotel. The hotel has a daily doctors surgery which I had to avail myself of with excellent facilities. All in all probably a good, family hotel. Families would have a great time
