Occidental Lanzarote Mar reviewed by Andrew N on . High quality family hotel This is a hotel for young families who enjoy noise and kiddies entertainment. I could have scored the hotel a 1 but that would be a disservice to excellent catering, clean pools, and great all-round... Rating: 4

“Nice family stay if you don't need Wifi”

    - have been put into smaller room category than booked (fixed after complaint) - no Wifi in rooms but only at reception (no fix after complaints) - kind and friendly service personnel at the restaurant - good variety of food

“Just back from a weeks stay......”

We have just got back from a weeks stay at this hotel. We have many good things to stay about our stay and a few bad points. Bad points Air conditioning didn't work and we had to ask 4 times for someone to look at it. We eventually just opted for a fan as had already unpacked and didn't want to move rooms. We didn't ask to change rooms either so don't know if we could have. Dinner didn't open until 7pm (late 4 young kids) Not enough choice of food for children. There was hot dogs every night and pizza but the pizzas were not normal pizzas so the kids didn't like that. If you have fuzzy kids like us then Ita not great for them. However this could be because it's may and maybe as summer comes it changes. There was a kids dining room but they didn't open that during our stay so again maybe a seasonal things Wifi connection was pretty poor couldn't get reception anywhere but the hotel reception. We were in block 7 and the wifi didn't work at all in there. Not much to do for children in the evenings over the age of 10 really. Other Than these points we had a great holiday And there are a lot of good points The entertainment team are fantastic. They really put themselves out for the guests and put a lot of effort in. Every day they do a song and dance by the pool which by the end of the holiday you end up knowing the words and routine. They also put on a lot of activities for the kids during the day and also brilliant shows at night where they also get the adults involved at some points. They deserve a lot of credit they are very talented too. Lifeguards - very good at their jobs. Don't take there eyes off the kids and are firm but fair with the rules. Also help you get the sunbeds. Drinks - a very good selection of drinks for the all inclusive people. And for the kids slushes and also coke lemonade etc Food - as adults we had no complaints over the food really. There was something different every day and we enjoyed breakfast lunch and dinner and sometimes we ate lunch from the pool Bar which was also nice. We just felt the kids food wasn't too good as mentioned above. Rooms - I don't know what all the rooms are like but we had a family suite and it was brilliant for us. It was aimed at children in its design and was very comfortable and very clean. The only issue we had was that our air conditioning didn't work but we had already unpacked and loved the room so we decided to ask for a fan and just had to give a €20 deposit . Swimming pools - Very good and have a slide going into the main pool. This kept the kids and the adults very entertained. There is another larger pool Next door but this was a bit colder so we didn't get in to. I imagine this one would be ok as the weather gets warmer. Weather - may time and it was so hot. It reached 28 one day. And because lanzarote is so windy you can burn really easily so be careful with that people. The beach - this is a good 25-30 minute walk away I would say. You could walk it though if you are keen walkers. If not though, there is a free shuttle bus that comes into the hotel car park every hour. Reception will give you the times if you ask and that way you can save your legs. If you fancy getting a taxi instead there is a taxi rank outside the hotel carpark and the cab fare is only between €3:40-3:80 from the hotel to the beach so not much at all. Hotel - on site at the hotel there are a few shops to get your souvenirs there is also a bar and rental company and tour company to book all your tours. You can also do this in the shops near the beach aswell. I recommend you book the market tour as it's 20 minutes on the bus and they pick you up aswell for €8 per person but it you go via normal Bus Apparently it takes an hour, this is what we were told. Overall we were very happy with the holiday and had these bad points been good it would have been a fabulous hotel to stay at. Lanzarote is so pretty and I will definitely be going back at some point . And was overall happy with the hotel.

    “Great kids holiday”

In a nutshell food great, adult and kids activity fantastic, lovely clean rooms and friendly staff. Did not want to come home Evan after two weeks. Tried to book again for next April but was fully booked very popular hotel there are grander places to stay but not as much going on for kids so this for us with kids aged 7 and 9 was perfect.
