    “Seven Night Stay”

    We stayed in the Barceló Lanzarote Mar (Now named Occidental Lanzarote Mar) for seven nights in March 2017. We arrived at the hotel about 2:30pm and our room was not ready and we were invited to have some lunch. By the time we finished our food the room was ready and we could fully check in. We had a Superior Family Room which was a really nice room although I cannot see what made it Superior. The room had twin beds instead of a double / king bed. There was a balcony which came in handy when we needed to dry our clothes following a complete saturation on one of our trips. There was supposed to be WIFI available from the room but more often than not this did not work fully from the room. From the pool it was hit and miss as to whether or not it would cut off. From the piano bar and reception the WIFI was brilliant and worked very well. The hotel put a free shuttle bus to the nearby beach which was really helpful and came in handy. The Mark down to three stars is due to the following issues: 1. The food was AWFUL most days and was generally slightly warm but more often than not it was stone cold. We ended up eating out on a number of occasions so that we could have a good meal. I know this comment will get the usual answer that they have copied and pasted into all the other comments on the food. If it was as per your reply then all the comments would not be the same. 2. The showers do not work around the pool so could not shower before getting into the pool. 3. The Jacuzzi was freezing and the jets did not work 4. In busy periods there was not enough staff on reception. The staff themselves were extremely helpful and worked really hard to try and clear these queues of people waiting to be seen. I think they need to plan better for check-in / checkout times. 5. We walked strait into our room one day whilst the maid was cleaning. The door wide open and we just walked in with no comment other than hello. Had this not been our room we could have easily stolen things from it. Other than the issues our stay was pleasant and we would come back but not all inclusive as the food is BAD.

    “Overall, a good hotel”

    This hotel has quite a lot going for it. It has good facilities, and the staff were very friendly and enthusiastic. We were on B & B only, and the buffet breakfasts were excellent, even after 10 days. There's obviously a trend towards family holidays, so the adult pool was really useful. You have to pay for drinks etc even if you are all inclusive, which obviously upset a few people. The location is right at the start of Costa Teguise, and therefore it's a 20 minute walk to the first set of restaurants - not a problem for us. There is also a 45 - 60 minute walk along the coast ( flat and an excellent path ) to the main area of Costa Teguise. We didn't eat in the hotel but in the hotel premises at the front is a bar ( Dominos ) which shows football but also has an excellent line in pizzas, and there is also the Restaurante Mediterrraneo ( which I thik is owned by the hotel ) which has an excellent, slightly upmarket choice. 25% discount for hotel users meant their set menu of four courses plus wine was only 18 euros. We also use the car hire place in the front area ( Jure Cars from memory ), which worked very well and we had two very decent and relatively new cars. We also used Low Cost tours ( change the name guys ! ) which also worked out. There is also a bus top right outside either for Costa Teguise or Arricefe and beyond. 1 euro 40 to Arrecife, which was good value. Just be aware that it's the last stop in Costs Teguise so the buses around 9 - 10 can be full. The hotel run a shuttle bus to one of the beaches in CT. Overall we enjoyed the stay. Rubbish view from the room - waste ground, a half full skip and the desalination plant and wind turbines, but good facilties. However if you want to get out and about you need to make an effort.

    “Nice time.”

    Nice hotel with high level service. Great food, nice rooms. Located a bit away from the town. Great animators and every evening shows. Recommened for families with chlideren. Internet is everywhere available but the speed is not as expected.

    “Booked Barcelo' got Butlins”

    Just returned today very disappointed !! Expected more when I booked a Barcelo(now occidental)and I can see why Barcelo have taken there name away from this hotel This is a good 3 star not 4 star hotel for families Good points-when I emailed ahead for an upper floor kindly got issued room 4233 nice big room really comfy bed -90's bathroom needing updated but ok The entertainment team (especially Lucia)really nice and polite and not pushy and chatted away even though we just wanted to chill and to be fair all staff apart from one were excellent (will discuss in a bit) The lady in the pool side coffee shop was nice and made a great coffee Liked the separate all inclusive set up and other hotel chains should take note as quick to get a drink This is where it starts to go down hill- The waste of space beside the reception and in front of the main bar is strange-the lack of seating was apparent to everyone apart from the hotel and the nasty multi coloured leather seats??? The food was the worst all inclusive experience I have had in a 3 or 4 star hotel The food in the restaurant on the first two days was stone cold(was told there was a microwave REALLY-I paid a lot of money and expected hot food!! It was the same in the pool side snack bar -cold burgers/hot dogs and chips Got a visit to el meditranno restaurant-went Tuesday and it was really nice(what I was expecting whole holiday-not one day!!) Ended up going into costa teguise three nights to eat! 4 Euro taxi into town as hotel 40 min walk away from the centre The set up of the food hall is a mess and absolute shambles-food stations on both side of the hall with main food area in the middle meaning it was a free for all people pushing in and getting in each other's way-why not have them in one place and some sort of order!! Be aware the maitre d' as you come in with the beard is not interested if you have an all inclusive band on-he was only interested in speaking to paying Italian and French people and rudely ignored us several times!! Had to laugh this morning watched him take temperatures of the eggs on one of the stations and dragged three cooks out and made them remove them -they did smiling as they took all the serving plates away!!really poor its like the hot plates don't work or need replaced Also in every hotel I have stayed they have a themed night -here it's the same every night and it's like very little thought has went into this!! Had a look at the Barcelo costa teguise in town and its like a different world but hey you learn by your mistakes and this has put me off using Barcelo for a Caribbean holiday If you want cheap and cheerful this is but there is much better available

    Hi was back at hotel again?absolutely fantastic again could not fault a thing staff brilliant from start to finish I have to say a speacal thank you to may and the lady at the pool bar fantastic staff also reception staff my wife left her phone behind I phoned reception from the airport they said they found it and sent to the airport by taxi as all you know too soom people the phone is there lifeline again the food fantastic will be back again once again many thanks May hope to see you all soon keep up the work you all do
