    “Family vacation”

Just returned from family holiday at occidental mar. Hotel is situated 20-30 minute walk from resort centre . No big deal 5 euros in a taxi. Pros:- entertainment team and hotel staff exceptional and very friendly , well done. Hotels and grounds are spotlessly clean with reasonable activities. Cons:- don't expect a drink after 11pm , with having kids been to many AI resorts but never known AI service to be discontinued at this time. Of course you can stack refreshments before the deadline but still astounded at this. The pool areas are extremely small for a hotel with so many rooms and guests. The result of this is with so many families with young kids the areas surrounding the main pool are ridiculously overcrowded however there is a far quieter sun terrace for people who do not need to keep a constant eye on the kids in the pool. None of the communal areas are air conditioned including the dining areas. The food is truelly awful however and this the main letdown for this hotel and the main reason I personally would not consider returning. Most people will always find something to eat however the standard generally was poor. This hotel was my wife's choice and I will not let her forget her choice for a long time.

“Excellent facility especially the addition of the Olympic pool”

Overall our family experience was excellent, we stayed in block 7 (room 7212) family suite, excellent room as we family of 5. Beds comfortable including double sofa bed, shower area excellent and cleaned daily with towels changed. Room overlooked car park but quiet and we views of sea. Food in Coco bar very limited and only so many hot dogs & burgers one can eat. Lunch and breakfast good choice in main buffet restaurant. Dinner could be hit and miss and sometimes food not hot but staff very fast in making sure food replenished, buffet could be set out a bit better as seemed all over the place. Olympic pool anyone who has swam in a 50m will agree this facility is amazing with blocks & lane ropes and you can see the entire length of the pool.€3 max you pay for 1 hr at peak time. Daily beach transfer excellent, no sun loungers on beach but being honest not missed at all. Water slide great addition for children & adults. Animation staff very friendly and lots variety with activities for all.

    “Not quite 4 star”

On arrival the hotel looked lovely...however improvements need to be made...we were only bed and breakfast and to be honest I am glad cus the drinks were disgusting other than the branded drinks at the adults pool bar...breakfast was nice although food set out oddly in some cases...rooms need updating and some mould found in the bathroom...mirror was placed away from the plug sockets which made it difficult to straighten out hair...beds however were so comfy :)...adults only pool was gorgeous..very peaceful and the bar man Larry was a sweetie...if you have kids I would definitely say this is a good place to go...restaurants in the centre of town were amazing so definitely worth eating out and about...wifi was great and so was the air con...bus service to other resorts were really good...reception staff were great and always answered our questions...entertainment was typical of an abroad hotel!!!overall it was more than fine for what we wanted and paid for.

    “Lovely desserts.”

Stayed here with my mum and daughter 2nd - 9th July. We stayed in a superior family room, although I would struggle to find anything 'superior' about it. The bathrooms were a bit grubby with lime scale around the taps and dirty grout. The rainfall shower head was obviously a new addition but did little to improve the overall impression. The rooms were very spacious and the third bed in the living area was an actual bed and not a sofa-bed and this was surprisingly comfy. The air con (in both bedroom and living area) was a little weak but as our balcony had massive trees in front of it the room stayed cool anyway! Safe was about €30 for the week and the pool towels had a refundable deposit of €10 each. Thomas Cook Q&A said there was a kettle in the room but this was in fact a Lavazza pod machine so was a waste of space on the dressing table to be honest. Food was typical All Inclusive fair but the desserts were really quite good. Waiter service drinks in the restaurant for lunch and dinner was a very welcome change from queuing at the usual drinks machines you find. They were very quick to take orders and deliver drinks and would replenish without request on occasion. The A La Carte wasn't worth bothering with. The bars had an area which was help yourself to soft drinks, wine (including cava), beer and spirits and this kept the queues at the bar to an absolute minimum. This hotel is in the middle of nowhere, there are a couple of mini markets outside but nothing else for a couple of miles. No bars or restaurants within walking distance. The free bus goes to the beach once an hour during the day and we used it once. Be there early or you won't get on, they don't allow standing. Didn't have a problem finding sun beds but this may change in the school holidays. The pool seemed clean and the entertainment team worked hard. Staff were all really friendly. Overall a standard 3 star AI in the Canaries.
