    “Awful experience resulted in us moving hotels”

    When I booked this hotel, I was of the impression that we were booked into Occidental Lanzarote Playa. My husband and I were extremely disappointed when we arrived here!! We booked a superior room with a view, which should have been a luxury room with bathrobes, slippers, coffee machine, minibar etc. What we actually got, was a basic ground floor room, which was dark and depressing, it didn't have any of the advertised extra's and no view! The view we had, was of bushes right in front of the railings of our balcony, which we could not see past and the extra's came at an extra cost. Immediately after we arrived in the room, I went back to the reception and asked to be moved. I was told they could not move us that night and we would have to wait until the next morning. I asked if we could be moved facing the pool and I was told this would not be a problem as some people were leaving. We then went back to our room and rang our booking agents to ask them what they are prepared to do. Again I had to ring back the next day, as they could not do anything that night. During that night we went to the restaurant, which wasn't at all nice and the bars were full of children. I know this is not an adults only hotel, but there seemed to be lots of children everywhere. We were not at all comfortable here. The next morning we again asked to be moved, we were given keys to go an view the pool view room. When we got to the room, it wasn't a pool view room as promised, it was a room overlooking a big area of waste ground, which had a dark and windy balcony. This was a worse room than we had!! We went back to reception and said this is not what they promised, to which they replied this was all they had, as the guests in the room they were going to allocate us, had decided to stay another night? I expressed that this was not acceptable, but this fell on deaf ears. I then rang the booking agents again, and after several phone calls and several trips to reception, it was agreed that we could move hotels. At this point it was 11am, and for us to only pay for one days stay in the hotel, we had to find another hotel before 12pm, which was impossible. We did try in the town, but all hotels were full. We then tried the Occidental Lanzarote Playa opposite and they had rooms available. We viewed a room before moving and it was lovely. Unfortunately this was after 12pm so we faced another night here! We then went back to this hotel, informed our booking agents that we were moving the next day and asked them to confirm with reception what we had to pay, but despite several attempts to find out this information, they didn't have any success and asked me to speak to the hotel manager myself. I spoke manager who informed me that they had send this relevant information. I then rang my agents again to ask for email confirmation that were allowed to move and what our final costs were. Once we received this email, we were elated and just tried to enjoy the evening. This enjoyment was short lived, as my husband went to get a beer in the bar at the back of the hotel, only to find they had closed an hour early. When we challenged this, the staff were extremely rude to him. I can honestly say, this is the worst hotel we have ever been to. The hotel itself isn't very nice, the food is average, and the staff are rude. We will not be returning and I don't recommend it.

    “Disappointing”

    Where do I start... we aren't usually ones to right bad reviews, we were just 2 young girls looking for a relaxing holiday.. however as the days went on the list grew longer and being rated a 4 star hotel we feel everyone needs to read this before booking. When we arrived at the hotel around 12pm, we was told our room would be ready at 2 - which we expected, we came back to the desk at 2 to be told by the same guy it wasn't ready and should be 10/15 mins.. half an hour later our room still wasn't ready, as I am sure it can appreciate this wasn't the news we wanted after being awake since 3am, after complaining the hotel found us a new room! Once in the room we found the door rattles, so you'd need to put a chair infront of it if you wanted to get any sleep! Trying to find our way from our room to the pool/reception/eating area was an experience in itself with the blocks being very poorly sign posted! The buffet - again no signs or labels to tell you what the food is, we asked a chef who just pointed at the food as he clearly couldn't understand us. The evening food was terrible. The kitchen staff are very miserable and make you feel like everything is an inconvenience. The breakfast however is nice. The toilet in our room liked to continue to flush 2 hours after being used. The lighting in the room is very poor, we had to sit in the sink to get ready. There is also no full length mirror. There is no iron/ironing board in the rooms and the hairdryer is like something from the 1900's. As we was eating breakfast on our second day, we found insects crawling on the pillar next to us. When you check in they inform you of the wifi.. which doesn't work. Onn our last day, around 9.30am we was in bed and the cleaner walked into our room. Our flight wasn't until evening time, we had to be out of the room for 12, which again we expected.. there was somewhere to put our bags which was great.. however anyone can get access to the bag room without supervision, we also asked if there was a changing room/wash room we could use.. where we was told we had to book in.. we asked how we should have known about this and was told we should have been informed when we checked out.. which we wasn't. The reception staff are very unhelpful and not informative at all. Overall we are extremely dissatisfied and disappointed in the overall experience in this hotel, I am actually surprised it is anywhere near 4 star. Please reconsider before booking to stay here.

    “Family holiday”

    Had a great family holiday here. The rooms are dated. The child's buffet wasn't open at all during our stay which was disappointing as we have a 1 year old and 3 year old and this was one of the factors that made us choose this hotel. Everything else was fantastic!

    “First Family Holiday as new family”

    Really enjoyed our stay at the Occidental Lanzarote Mar. Our room was very clean. The food was very good but a little repetitive. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. My kids loved the pools. The Chutes very great fun too. The life guards did a great job of keeping inflatables out of the pool with the chutes. We always had the spot we liked by the pool and didn't have to get up at silly o'clock to get it. Not like some people. The all inclusive drinks are self service apart from in the restaurant at meal times. Would definitely return here as we met some lovely people.

    “Great for kids”

    We had a great time the pool was fab food was ok and entertainment was fab however this hotel could be doing with a refurb in the rooms ! No extractor fan which left mould and smell in the bathroom and black mould/water dripping from the shower which we didn't use!!! Really let's this hotel down as the animation team are fantastic!
