    “Super Stay”

It was our first visit to Tenerife (we've visited Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura before) and we wanted to be away from very busy resorts so chose Barcelo Santiago. Reading other reviews I'm astonished some were unhappy as the welcome and level of service was really excellent, we found. We had booked a Thompson holiday and our rep. Kellie was so lovely and extremely efficient (not that we needed to see her after booking trips.) We like to walk, explore, go on trips, read quietly, swim and we could do all that. If we'd wanted to sunbathe all the time there was plenty of space and lots of activities if you wished. We went half board and was delighted with the quality of the food and the service. we visited the bars and restaurants 15 mins walk away at the marina for lunches if we wanted and had a very special meal at La Pergola (on the seafront down to the left of the hotel) can't praise the food or the location enough. The bar next to it also became our 'go to' spot for drinks at sunset, very friendly young staff who really made time for you. The rooms were spotless (we had a delux room on the 7th floor) it was quiet for sleeping and the views were amazing - with good binoculars you can follow the boats and see dolphins from your balcony although you can't beat the 'Rapido' inflatable boat trip (1 hr 15 euros per person) really fast, exciting and informative and we got so close to the dolphins; a 'must for anyone who worries they will feel queezy on the longer, more 'relaxed' boat trips. Changing dinner for lunch wasn't a problem, an extended checkout was easily arranged (23 euros I think but no time limit) and the complimentary spar sessions were very welcome, (we were the only ones in the spar when we went at 1.30 to escape from the sun for a bit). The Teide by night trip is fantastic, the meal surprised everyone, the stars were amazing and the friendly drink stops were lovely, really worth the price (68 euros each I think) we were out about 11 hours. For us a week was perfect and there was a mix of all ages with the surroundings retaining a real charm that looked to be missing in other areas where there were pick-ups to/from the airport. Great hotel-can't fault it, lovely holiday!

    “Viva Barcelo”

Enjoyable break although there is not a lot for youngsters apart from the kiddies club. Personally I think that the hotel would do more if it was an adults only hotel as a good many of the visitors were over forty, although not all.

    “Great hotel, please believe me!”

Hi I travelled on my own and for 10 days. My room was standard with a sea view. Negatives, yes there were areas that needed a little tidying up, but none were a,safety issue. Positives :- where to begin! Spotlessly clean rooms with plentiful towels and toiletries, beautifully Sun decks with attentive staff to help with positioning of beds and sun shades.Great animation team, so many things to join in with if you do wish - and evening entertainment. Really good children's club. Food (I stayed half board), breakfast was brilliant, evening meal was very varied and the meats coming out fresh and the individually cooked menu were fantastic. Staff were attentive and friendly, always helpful. They were extremely helpful towards several disabled people who were staying. The area around the hotel was hilly, but safe to walk to the nearest places. I really enjoyed my stay and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

“Disappointing stay this year at Barcelo Santiago”

This was our third visit to the hotel and we've booked to go back in September - but may cancel. Generally we felt that the hotel service and management was not as welcoming as last year. Also, the food in the restaurant was not as good - particularly the salad bar. The air conditioning in the restaurant was non existent and was very uncomfortable on at least 4 nights when the day time temperature outside reached over 31-32º - on a positive the view and location of the hotel are beautiful and the rooms although very tired are clean and the beds are comfortable. I'm not sure if the conditions have changed in the hotel because of Barcelo's merger with Occidental Hotels or not. Such a shame as last year we were welcomed like royalty on our second visit there - this year we were treated just like anyone else arriving at the hotel. We always book directly with the hotel and are on their loyalty scheme. I hope it improves again.
