    “Amazing for families”

Dare I say the best family holiday I’ve ever been on ? 🤔 yeah what the hell, it was!!!! Staff amazing, resort amazing, food amazing, drinks amazing. Everything was spot on. Loads of wildlife strolling round the resort, never short of something to do. Highlights were the pool foam parties and the restaurants. Now I did fall fowl of the pay for WiFi thing, however found out after through a family who flew with virgin that you can subscribe to a local WiFi service for like $5 usd’s for two week but you must unsubscribe at the end. So look into that, ask at the virgin desk in the resort.

“Wonderful resort with an amazing staff”

We had a wonderful family vacation. I booked this trip for my family through Cheap Caribbean from 7-6-18 to 7-13-18. My husband, son and myself have been to Mexico numerous times, first time to this resort. This trip I brought along my 85 year old grandparents, my mom and my mom’s cousin (whom have never been out of the US). The front desk employees were very friendly and organized. Check in (although quick) was hectic. My husband, son and I were placed in building 11 (double beds) my grandparents building 19 and my mom and cousin in 19; both rooms had a king bed. My mom and cousin did not want to share a bed (understandable). Apparently there were nowhere for them to switch at the moment, either they had to wait until later that evening or Sunday for a room to be available). Since they do offer roll away beds, It was easier to switch rooms amongst ourselves. My husband and I took the king room and had a bed delivered for our son and my mom and cousin took the double bed room. Wi-Fi is not free unless you upgrade to royal club. It’s not a huge deal to me, as I would rather disconnect while on vacation, however, my cousin needed to take care of some work related business a few days during the week, so she had to purchase Wi-Fi. $80 for a week up to four devices, so we decided to split the cost between the 6 of us, which worked out better and a little cheaper than purchasing separate. The bell boy took our luggage and delivered to our room. Our room was located in building 19 room 323, partial pool view. Nice room, nice size and very cleaned. It was cleaned every day. Fridge stocked with water, beer and sodas. A few snacks stocked everyday also. Bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. Flat screen tv with limited channels (we only turned on in the morning or evening). Room also had a coffee maker. Nice ample storage in the closet with plenty of hangers. Normal size safe, a clock radio and an individual reading laps beside the bed. Plenty of outlets and USB ports in the room. Hairdryer, two sinks and nice stand up shower (no tub). The walk from building 19 to main lobby was maybe 5 minutes if that. There is a shuttle that will take you throughout the resort. Our concierge in our building, Jessica, was very friendly and knowledgeable. We were never offered or pressured to attend the Vacation club meetings or to buy. We never had any issues with anyone in concierge. We tried all of the restaurants. Sonora Grill, Los Olivos, La Hacienda, Oriental, Seafood, they were all very good, no complaints on the food or service. Wait staff quick, efficient and friendly. And never waited to get seated except the Oriental, which was a 30 minute wait. No problem. We ate at the buffet every morning for breakfast, very good. Everything was perfect temp. Servers were attentive and friendly. The pizza in La Piazza was very good also, as were Paco’s Tacos, quick service. The sit-down restaurants do have a dress code (it’s almost at all resorts we have visited, so it’s really no big deal). Men must wear pants and a nice shirt with closed toe shoes. Women, well it’s pretty much where anything (Skirts, pants, dresses, strapless, off shoulder, spaghetti straps, open toe sandals). My husband doesn’t care for the dress code, but goes with it. After dinner, if its unbearably hot, he goes back to the room to change. We went to the evening shows every night in the theater. All shows were very good and organized, the team was very talented. There are shops that set up in the courtyard by the theater almost every evening, which were very nice, nice souvenir shops and friendly locals. Pool bars, swim up bars, beach bar, lobby bar and theater bar. All were pretty much fast and efficient and made some good cocktails. The service was outstanding. We never waited long for anything. The wait staff coming around the pools, theater and lobby were friendly and very hard workers. (FYI) The sports bar is only for 18+, but during popular sporting events (Soccer) children our allowed from the time the game comes on to the time it goes off. (No matter how many resorts I stay at, I find it comical people really complain about sitting by the pool or lobby for minutes to hours on end because they are thirsty and no one is serving them, Seriously, get up and get your own drink, why complain about a simple little thing. I just really shake my head at some people. We only swam in two of the 4 (?) Pools. They both had plenty of room for everyone. I think there were 4 pools total. The pool were the swim up bar is located, gets very busy loud the later in the day. Fun entertaining games throughout the day, fun to watch and participate. The other pools we swam in, was by building 19. Large and has some entertainment and music during the day, just not as lively as the other pool . The beach is small but nice and calm with lots of fish, No big waves, nice and relaxing inlet. We never had problems obtaining pool towels, anytime of day. They never ran out. Hand in your towel card, grab a towel, return it and get the towel card back. My husband and I had a couples massage. My massage therapists was Bernice and my husbands was Alex (I think, I lost the card they gave me..sorry). They were both were very friendly and gave very good massages. We were able to use the sauna and hot tub before our massage, however, the hot tub was so hot that I couldn’t even sit on the edge with my feet in. It was scalding hot. The sauna was set above 200F. I’ve been in a few saunas and usually they run from 150-175F or under. So we couldn’t sit in that for longer than maybe 30-60 seconds. It wasn’t a big deal, we just joked about it and sat in the shower area and talked and enjoyed the peace and quiet before the massage. Xcaret Park next door was very nice. We took advantage of that. We did buy the pass at the resort. You do need more that one day, the park is huge!! It’s very nice and peaceful. Go early in the morning, wasn’t as crowed. Catch the Mayan show in the village, very good!! You can get to Xcaret by boat or through the entrance by the beach. (I found the entrance by the beach to be a little quicker) The Occidental complex is very large with lots of walking. It’s not too bad. My grandparents (in their 80’s) had no issues getting around by walking. From the wildlife to the two ruins, and the pretty flowers and gardens around the ground, you will never get bored. Monkeys, deer, coatis, parrots, flamingos, and other animals were everywhere and not shy. They were around almost every corner. The parrots show off in the lobby, the monkeys show off all over the resort, we could sit and watch them for hours. The lobby is absolutely gorgeous, huge. There is a small river like waterway that flows though the resort, it’s very unique. This is where the boat is that can take you to Xcaret. I’ve read a few reviews that have talked about no excursion companies at this resort. They are not located in the lobby like at other resorts. They are located in building 12 next to the little river. Follow the river from the lobby and go toward building 12 and you will find it. Keep going further back and you will run into the gym and then the spa. The resort is easy to maneuver through after the first day. There are a handful of shops on site, along the river. Some prices were steep, but other prices were priced well. (Don’t miss the evening Mayan show in the lobby every night). We did have the guys in the lobby call for a taxi for us. It was fast and the driver friendly. (Prices were always slightly different. Don’t forget to talk price before getting in). The first time we went to 5th, the taxi was $12. The second time it was $35. I didn’t want to argue or cause any conflict so we paid the price and went on with it. Just something to be aware of. We did two excursions. We booked with our Amstar Rep on the property. We did half day snorkel cruise and a full day which included, cave, snorkel, and Tulum. We had a great time and great guides. I will post a review with Amstar. Everyone at the resort is very friendly. I never ran into anyone who wasn’t friendly or who didn’t smile. Everyone greets you when you pass; some will even stop to chat for a few. I can tell by all the smiles and attitudes that everyone truly loves their job. I would return because of the staff, they made the resort. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. If you are a beach lover and need a big stretch of beach to walk for miles, this may not be for you. That was the only downfall to the resort, but definitely not a deal breaker as the other parts of the resort more than made up for it.

    “Family fun times”

We enjoy our time at Occidental Xcaret, Kids had so much fun. Food is excellent, a lot of choices to pick. Very convenient location next to X-caret. My kids loved to see the animals free in their habitat (deer, lizards, monkeys, birds, etc), the staffs are very friendly. We would like to come again.

“I never write a review but thought that I must!”

My partner and I were recently travelling to Mexico, and we had the most wonderful time. Great food, really fun location and so much to do! The hotel was great and provided us with so much to do! But, the reason our stay was so great was the fact that Anoniya (sp??) was such a joy - she helped us out with planning, trips and so much more. It was like we had a local expert in the lobby of the hotel, who could provide us with information anytime we needed it! Great location, amazing staff - we will be back.
