    “Top family hotel”

We stayed in this hotel last week and had a quality time here. The staff were polite and friendly at all times. Our room was clean and spacious with a sea view as an unexpected bonus! The restaurant offered a wide variety of food the choice would satisfy most appetites. Pool facilities were again clean and lounges seemed plentiful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

    “First family holiday”

We had a fantastic first family holiday at the Occidental! The hotel is only a 15 minute transfer by coach from the airport, though it appears the rooms aren’t ready for check in till the afternoon (2pm/3pm), you can put your luggage in a side room off the lobby. The restaurants on site were both great, as we were all-inclusive, we used the buffet the most. The food is always cooked well and differently themed each night but there will always be something (even if you’ve got a fussy eater there will be some English food they’ll eat). We also emailed in advance to request a travel cot in our room for our 1 year old baby, which they provided with bedding. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and there’s even a photographer who pops around the pool taking family pics for you to buy or you can book a photoshop trip with them! The only drawbacks were the poolside disco that happened on one of the nights and continued till 11pm, this unfortunately meant that we had to play white noise on full volume from my mobile phone so that our daughter could sleep as the balcony door didn’t full the party music. Also there are some branded alcohol/ice cream that aren’t included in the all-inclusive, but the bars don’t take cash so you will need to go back up to reception and give them your money to put ‘credit’ on your room, to then be able to charge anything extra to your room (it’s not like other resorts where you might have your credit card swiped upon arrival and have the charges directly invoiced to that) be a bit wary though as the staff don’t seem to be on top of this and the only two times we tried doing this, it took a long time for the staff to make phone calls, confer with other staff and loudly tell us that it wasn’t valid repeatedly and then ask why we would want something that wasn’t included in the all-inclusive anyway! Apart from this it is a beautiful resort with good food, lovely people and lots of entertainment and activities for all ages, just remember a pair of comfy shoes as it’s a 40 minute walk to the town!

    “Brilliant”

Don’t listen to the other reviews this is a great hotel staff are great unlike some of the reviews who say they are miserable but they’re not they are really helpful and pleasent. No sunbed wars which is great you can get one at any one of the pools no matter what time of day. Entertainment at night is ok not brilliant but some nights are great. Food really nice and the all inclusive around the pools is absolutely brilliant if you have picky children. All in all a really good place safe for kids and families alike highly recommended. “Great Hotel, Decent Price and a lovely holiday”

I stayed here with my wife and 2 children for 11 nights during August 2018. We have stayed at a Barcelo before and it was just as we expected. It's a chain and brand I trust when staying in the Canary islands. We had a junior family suite with an bedroom and fold down bed in the main living room for our daughters. The hotel grounds, pool and facilities were being maintained constantly. It really was immaculate. The dining room offered a wide and varied selection of food to cover all tastes. Again, it was fresh and constantly replenished. The snack bar at the pool was ok for burger / hot dog / chips - handy if you had been out during the day or just fancied a small lunch. The bar was ok. I felt that sometimes the queues were a little long and it was annoying that beer was only served in a small 250ml glass. Sometimes you just want a pint. There were bigger glasses on display but AI beer was only in small glasses. Also you need to proactively seek out staff to get bottled water and wine in the dining room. Staff will serve when prompted but rarely ask you first. In terms of the surrounding area I wasn't that impressed. It was 5 euro for a taxi each way to Costa Teguise. A small selecton of shops and cafes / places to eat. It was just ok, but very quiet. We spent a day in Puerto Del Carmen which was about 30 mins on the bus. It seemed to take forever to get back, about 25 stops. This was a much busier area and plenty going on. Loads of British / Irish pubs which is not my thing. When I am abroad I like it to feel like I am somewhere else - I don't want to feel like I am in Blackpool. During the trip we went on 2 excursions. A jeep safari round the island and up the mountains. It was just ok and not that interesting. The swim at the beach was the best part. We also went on a glass bottom catamaran boat trip. This was great fund and food / drinks were included. The weather was really hot but there is a constant wind and lots of clouds. There were light showers on a couple of days. Overall I really enjoyed my holiday, the hotel was fantastic but I don't think I'd visit Lanzarote again as there was just not enough to do. If you have not been, give it a go. If you have been and like the island then this hotel is a great choice. btw - Special mention to Alejandro ( hope I have the spelling correct ! ) - he sorted out our a la carte. Restaurant booking. You get one free meal there but make sure you book well in advance. By the time we tried we almost didn't get the chance as we would be going home. Give at least 4 days notice. Anyway Alejandro went out his way to sort it out for us and we had an awesome meal.

    “Very enjoyable stay”

We had a very enjoyable holiday in this well-run hotel. We chose the half-board option, which was perfect for us, as there is plenty to eat and a wide selection at the breakfast and dinner buffets. If you want the option to get a glass of wine with your dinner, you will not pay more than 3 euro. The waiters were more than helpful. One of our family had a disability, and they helped us at the buffet. When our small son had an accident and it required a visit to A&E, the reception staff could not have been more helpful or kind - thank-you Arter and staff. There is a lovely cove across the road behind the hotel. If you prefer sea-swimming in a quiet place to the swimming pool, this is the place for you. I loved it. However you do need to be physically able to keep your footing on the large stones and rocks, so keep this in mind, it isn't suitable for very young children or the elderly or less-able. If it is a sandy beach you want on the doorstep of your hotel, this isn't it. We met some lovely families, and the atmosphere in the hotel was friendly and everyone was there to enjoy their holiday with the family or friends, in a respectful and fun way. My son loved the mini-disco. We based ourselves at the family pool. (Paul and Jennifer - if you are reading this - please PM me, or put 00 in front of my phone number in your contacts I didn't receive the text). Overall, it was a great holiday!
