What the experience includes
A day in Tarifa and surroundings to admire an amazing natural performance. Bird migration across the Straits of Gibraltar
Tarifa and the old La Janda Lagoon offer magnificent sighting opportunities throughout the year, in addition to the always spectacular birds of prey migration during spring and late summer.
This is a visit any ornithology fan should miss. The Strait of Gibraltar is the closest point between Europe and Africa and the crossing point chosen by millions of migratory birds every year. In the Tarifa area, we also find places of international importance for birds such as the La Janda area, Los Alcornocales Natural Park and the Barbate Marshes making our private birdwatching day a ultimate experience.
Possible birds for the checklist:
Residents: Northern Bald & Glossy Ibis, Spoonbill, Little & Cattle Egret, Flamingo, Squacco Heron, Hoopoe, Griffon Vulture, Bonelli’s Eagle, Black-winged Kite, Purple Swamp-hen. You may also catch a glimpse of the rare Spanish Imperial Eagle and Bittern.
Winter Birds: Red Kite, Black Stork, Crane, Shoveler, Great Egret, Osprey, Black-tailed Godwit.
Summer Birds: Egyptian Vulture, Savi’s Warbler, Purple Heron, Bee-eater, Little Bitern, Gull-billed Tern, Turtle Dove, Booted & Short-toed Eagles, Subalpine Warbler.
Migrants: Sedge Warbler, Garganey, Temminck´s Stint, Spotted Redshank, Whinchat, Wood Sandpiper.
Everything you need to know
- The excursion is based on bird watching, although you don't need prior knowledge and the routes have a high environmental and landscape value by themselves
- The duration of the excursion is 8 hours, to which we must add the time we need to pick-up you from your hotel to the activity starting point and return
- Binoculars, we can lend you ours, but only if we have availability
- Activity not suitable for children under 12 years old

What to bring- IMPORTANT: It is an amazing excursión but intense, about 12 hours in total, so don't forget to bring a backpack with water, enough drink and food: Fruit, snacks, sandwiches, personal daily essentials, etc.
