    “Always a pleasure to be at Palma Real...”

    Hi, Me and my girlfriend just came back from one week at the Palma Real. This is my fourth time at this resort,I mainly come here because of the location (right in downtown Varadero) so you can walk everywhere (bars,resto,etc...). It's not a fancy resort but it's always been clean and the staff is really nice and the price is cheap (this time we paid 499$/each taxes included for 7 days all inclusive). The buffet is good didn't miss anything but for those who want to eat filet mignon and langouste every night this is not the place for you but there was chicken,pork,beef and fish almost every day. The Resort is not on the Beach but it's a five minutes walk not a big deal and the beach is incredible 10/10. Are only problem is that some of the clientèle of this resort are noisy especially at night between 01:00-4:00, noise in the hallways, screaming. But was expected because of the price. But besides that everything is good(I'm going back in February). The rooms are old but clean. Like I said if you are used to going in 5* resort too will probably be disappointed because of the room,food and installation. But on the other hand you are not paying 1200-1500$/week either. I spend most of the day at the Beach and at night in the city so I don't really care about luxury room and resort, just a clean place and that is Palma real.

    “Great place to for my first time in Cuba”

    I went on this trip back in July 2017. Can't remember the date exactly but it does not matter. I had a really great time from the room, to the people that worked there. The bar tender in the hotel I stated at was a really great guy. The food was o.k but still better than the place I went after this. This place did have a lot of younger tourist so which means noise but that is on them not about the place. That time of year was amazing and would go back again no problem. A lot of locals were in the hotel and on the beach and it was great. There was a guy selling bbq chicken on the street which when he is busy (Monday nights) the chicken is not fully cooked so yes I came home sick but that was not on the hotel again. I am actually looking at staying here on my next trip to Cuba and it may be in July again. Great place to stay.

    “All They Want Is Your Money!”

    The hotel was recently purchased by Spaniards from the Cuban Government. They put a fresh coat of paint on the outside of the building, but have fixed nothing on the inside. This was my 4th and last time at this dive. We stayed a week and didn't receive any clean towels. The poor housekeeping staff apologized and have to take the brunt of complaints. We tried to get a second key to our room, but were told they didn't have enough keys. The buffet was a disaster...no salt or pepper shakers...no ketchup...cold meat....soup that was like dish-water with a few chunks of potatoes. Stay away from this hole!

    “Bad choice”

    We have stayed at this resort numerous times in the last 14 years but this will have been the last time. We arrived Dec. 30 2018 and it started off and continued to be a poorly run resort. No food the first night in the Buffett and what there was was like a push and shove between the locals that apparently celebrate at this resort and international tourists. Guess who won the push and shove...yes the locals! They were so rude and where like starving wild animals. I'm not at all exaggerating.. you can ask anyone who was there! Then, the laundry facilities were down so no clean towels! Other guests saw maids refolding towels and placing them in rooms. One of the towels put in our bathroom had the imprint of a bloody foot print..so gross! Once the locals left, which was well into that first week, the food did improve to a point. There are 2 restrooms on the main lobby area, one was unusable because it was under construction, the other one was beside the bar but most times unusable because both sides, men's and women's were plugged...not a good screen! Also, no change room for new guests who wanted to change from there traveling clothes to shorts etc. The rooms were never ready for them.

    “Palma Real has lost it's charm”

    This was my 5th trip to Palma Real. I waa so disappointed. Building 4 was closed. Furst room had ants in the bed. Second room was mouldy in the bathroom and all over the curtains. 3 different times I had some rype of frog come up through the toilet. The food was a huge disappointment this time. Many times it was cold and dried out. I ate in town at night. I love the staff here but this is not their fault. The new owners need to hire someone to actually manage and get some decent standards back. I travel alone and always felt safe here. I hate the thought of having to change hotels but it appears that is what will happen this trip.
