    “Good for celiacs”

    My wife is celiac, and the chefs and waiters had all the knowledge and will to cook special dishes for her. They were very nice and the food was great. The room was very nice, had a great view, but was not so private.

    “1st timer to CR”

    What a place! What a staff!! Everyone from the Gen Mgr to the grounds keepers were always there to help or provide whatever service was needed. Javier at check in was so good! Diego, the General Manager was always available to make sure your needs were met. The staff at all the restaurants were always smiling and always helpful. My job requires extensive travel and when I left a hotel I left the staff. When I left Occidental Papagayo I felt like I was leaving family.

    “Excellent, first time in Costa Rica would come return Occidental Papagayo”

    I'll give a great report but will include a couple of items on the negative side as well...(not many) My wife and I spent 7 days at the Occidental Papagayo and loved it. Great rooms, comfortable beds, loved our porch and view. The people were fantastic--friendly, helpful and so happy that you are a guest in Costa Rica. BTW, we had a direct flight from Minneapolis: so easy to get there. Food...very good and often fantastic. Fun on the beach....paddle board, snorkel, kyak or sit in sun or shade....we never went to the pool (too loud for us!) Only bad think I can say is that one night our building lost some power for about 4 hours and there was never any communication or apology after the fact. One more little thing...too many racoons on the grounds at night...they seemed harmless but I wasn't crazy about them. I took a shuttle to Del Coco but my wife never left the grounds. Here's a tip...on the beach there are gals that do beach massages for 50% of the price at the resort....with the scenic setting I'd recommend that....we did both but on the beach was preferred. Also enjoyed all the great fish and swimming with sea turtles when I snorkeled. Naming names: Maira, helping with shuttles, awesome! Ronald on the beach with beach gear...Manuel refilling my drinks...Harry at the alacarte grill....all were fantastic. See you there!

We are glad that out staff contributed so much to your stay, their friendliness and helpfulness being our hotel´s main strength we will definitely congratulate them all on your behalf for their contribution to your wellbeing whilst staying among us. Unfortunately the hotel was victim to power cuts during your stay as a result of an internal breakdown in the building that you stayed and had to work on its with another generators, we apologize for that service failure. We would like to tell you that the spa is not a direct hotel service; however we make sure that it complies with the respective operating, hygiene and safety permits for all users and with prices according to other spas in the area.     “Average, did not expect to pay that much ”

    We had a great time in this hotel, it was our first stop in Costa Rica trip and ending up by the ocean and seeing wild life at your doorstep after a 30 min drive from Liberia airport was impressive. However, overall this is not a five star hotel and service, I feel like I overpaid for what was provided. Good things: We came on December 31st and stayed there for 4 days. They asked right away if we want to book a New Year dinner, which we did. The dinner was in their a la cart restaurant but served as a buffet. It was amazing! For seafood lovers like me there were a few thing to enjoy, such as ceviche, tuna tartar, and a huge baked fish with garlic sauce which they portion up to your plate. They also served lamb, chicken and beef. Very food quality. Then they had a New Year party by the pool, with live Latin music and dancing after. They served sparkling for the New Year toast and have you hats and whistles. Drinks service was non stop, people were dancing and having fun. I’d say five star for that evening! Large clean swimming pool and a small pool with a swim up bar were great. No issues with chairs or shade, drinks and service were good. And since it is an adult hotel, no noisy entertainment. The hotel has direct access to the beach. We didn’t stay there, only went for a swim and back to the pool. The beach is quite small, it is municipal with local people having picnics. A few chairs for hotel guests were available. We had exposure to the wild life, iguanas are everywhere and racoons came visit every night on the porch. There were also many different birds, and some people say they saw monkeys but we were not lucky with them. The property has many plants and trees. Welcome gift as a bottle of wine and a bottle of local rum was nice. The ice machine was located nearby so we made ourselves a cocktail before dinner. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were fine in general. I’d be bored if I stayed there for a week as the selection was smaller than All Inclusive I visited in other countries. But it was always something I could find to my taste and I enjoyed it. Beware: The property is on the heals so there is a lot of walking up and down. They offer a shuttle to drive you around, but of course there is a little wait involved. We walked everywhere, was a good exercise for us but it may not work for some people. Not so good: Customer service was a bit patchy. Generally bar tenders and restaurant stuff were very friendly and nice, all are working hard and deserve the tips. The check in was a bit messy. It states “early checking” in the booking confirmation but all that means is that you can pay, leave your luggage and use the facilities till the room is ready at 3pm. I feel like my expectations were not managed well at the booking, as I hoped to have a room right away after a tiring overnight flight. When we came back at 3, the room was still not ready, they said they have no time indication and we just need to stay by reception and wait. I also asked to organise transfer over email, and got all the confirmation of this arrangement. When I asked the reception the night before, they had no clue and looked disinterested to help. I had to present my email confirmation and they had to call the person who arranged it. They said the transfer is with the other company therefore they didn’t have it in the system. However, I did arrange it with the hotel and made payment to the hotel. It should not be my responsibility to chase an individual and figure out who arrange it. I don’t consider this is a good customer service, and definitely not a five star. The property is outdated and not so clean in some places. Broken doors in public toilets, mould and rotten doors in the room and broken door on our porch. I understand it is very humid there, but it is all down to the maintenance. The dust on the bathroom mirror and stains on the coffee table, curtains not ironed, towels seen better days. These are little details that generally didn’t spoil our stay, we stayed in different types of hotels throughout our life but one should not pay five star price for a two star condition.

On the other hand, we lament hearing that the service provided at reception fell short of your expectations as the entire team put a lot of effort to maintain the highest standards of service for our guests to fully enjoy their expérience among us, unfortunately, we are not aware of the means by which the guest will arrive at the hotel when not being booked directly with us, since the companies that offer this service do not communicate it to our reception team or another department, we are pleased to know that because of the contact information that you provided us, we were able to coordinate your transportation well directly. Normally the delivery of the rooms are made at 3 p.m according to our policies, unfortunately on this occasion due to the high occasion we could comply with the standard and we apologize for the inconveniences that this could have caused to you and for the comfort of all our guests, we do offer the service of the shuttle service for anyone who wants to avoid the stairs or does not wish to walk. Please be assured that your comments will be taken into serious consideration and that they will help us to improve our services.     “Amazing experience”

    Highly recommend this place. Great service food location. Met lots of great couples. All of us thought it exceeded our expectations. The resort is a little older but in good shape. The resort during the day was fairly quite we liked that about it.
