    “Tourism ”

    Centrally located. Especially good if arriving by train since the hotel is just off the exit of the railway station. The rooms are large and clean, though the bathroom floor in our room looked like it had missed out on a mopping. Staff friendly and helpful. Pool on the top floor a great way to unwind. We used it as a stopover on our way to Marbella and were very satisfied with the hotel. Are not into breakfasts but staff allowed us to grab a coffee for a small charge and there seemed to be a huge selection of food available for those people eating there. Safe, stocked fridge and wifi throughout the hotel. Overall a good choice.

    “Front desk personnel not very hospitable!”

    After exiting the train station and trying to get our bearings we found ourself in the lobby of the Barcelo Malaga, we do not speak Spanish and simply asked the front desk personnel if they could advise us how far our hotel was away and where to get a taxi. They both played DUMB and said there were two hotels and they didn’t know which one. ( We showed them our reservation, which had the both the name and address). We thanked them and went out to hail a cab, whereby we were told that the hotel was just around the corner on the other side of the street. Just because we weren’t staying with them it seems to me that this was “mean spirited” and not very professional. Save yourself some money, and cross the street and stay at the Sercotel, very nice hotel with friendlier staff.

    “I will never again visit”

    We arrived at the hotel 14:00 sharp after the formalities were told that the room is not ready ,although this is the official check in time. At 15:00 the room was available I asked what is the checkout time answer 12:00 if we want to stay an extra hour they will get back to me with the costs......!!!!!!!! I said that it is unfair and want to see a manager .........he is unavailable . Re breakfast that is nit included in the room cost you have to pay upfront if you pay at the breakfasroom there is about 20% surcharge. The desk personel is rude and arrogant Will never stay in this hotel .so so so ugly

    “No Response”

    Our flight to Malaga post poned by 24 hours. Property notified immediately , given run around. Told they couldn't cancel booking and we were advised to cancel through booking.com. Booking.com advised property by phone and email as did we. No response to emails. We received a "no show " message. Booking.com was ultimately notified that no partial refunds or concessions would be made. Probably nice place but their public relations seems terrible...We would certainly will avoid this hotel.

    “Good service and location but definitely too expensive”

    Overall we had a pleasant stay, however we found the value for money was not very good. The room was comfortable, very quiet at night and good quality of mattress, however it needs some maintenance: finishings were quite poor and overall it looked shabby, with many scratches on the walls and mold stains in the walk-in shower. We really liked the hotel location, first of all for its proximity to both AVE station and bus station, which makes very easy to plan day trips to Malaga's surroundings (for example, Cordoba is less than 1 hour away by train and Nerja is 1.5 hours away by bus). Having a shopping centre literally on your doorstep is very handy as well. Malaga's Old Town is in walking distance (20 mins from the hotel), however it is not a particularly pleasant stroll because of major road works all along the way; but this was not a major issue for us, also because you have 3 different bus lines which bring you to the Old Town and the stop is literally in front of the hotel, and also a cab is quick and cheap (4-6€ in most cases). All the hotel staff was always very friendly and helpful (not only in the reception, but also at the bar/restaurant and the cleaning people). We really appreciated the flexibility with check-out time and the luggage storage service. It can be quite annoying that waiting times at the bar are extremely long, minimum 15-20 mins to get a cocktail, sometimes even longer. Once we ordered a sandwich at the bar on the rooftop terrace and it took 1 hour! The rooftop terrace is very nice, however the swimming pool is much smaller than it appears in the pictures. The negative sides I listed, such as shabby look of the room and slow service in the bar, are actually minor things and would have much lesser weight if the hotel was not so expensive, so the main issue for us was the poor value for money in comparison to other hotels we stayed at.
