    “Holy cow...we love this place!”

During this last month, we have been wandering around this incredible and amazing country. Sometimes we do miss the usual comforts we are used to, so we asked for somewhere to stop by and rest for 5 days. We were told about Occidental Tamarindo so we dismissed a few (shocking now) bad reviews and...wow, we discover a lovely resort, with all variety to choose for lunch and dinner, only but would maybe the lack of space in the Special Restaurant, but we really enjoyed the Buffet so we could forgive it right away. The property is placed into the mangroove with a fantastic surfing beach avalaible, mind the rocks when tile gets low. Somethng we will always remember is people, no matter the hard work they sustain a big smile which makes one enjoy and forget problems in real life. Adina, Carlos, Jeny are now part of our gang. Rooms are Ok, sonwtimes you get to see from them insane actions of real jungle, the howling nonkeys or the great iguanas. Just unforgettable. To conclude, its a fantastic hotel, very well managed, guests friendly and not gold expensive at all. Mary Swanson

    “Great Place to Stay!!”

We just got back from a two week vacation from the Occidental, loved this resort. It's a smaller resort which we loved, but we never felt it was crowded or you were rushing to get your towels out before 7 am. FOOD: Plenty of fruits and vegetables and always cooked to perfection, never overcooked or soggy and pasta always al dente, not an easy feat when feeding a large crowd. Not being a beef or pork eater I cannot comment on the quality of those items, but the fish and chicken were very good. The Al La Carte was excellent, we dined there 3 times and enjoyed every meal we had.Their Valentine's Dinner was sooo good, they really outdid themselves that night. No complaints here I didn't have to cook for two weeks which made me one Happy Camper!! BEACH: This is the highlight of the resort, to the left of the resort is a wonderful sandy beach and the right you can walk into Tamarindo. We especially loved watching the surfers doing their stunts right in front of our resort. STAFF: They were incredibly friendly and helpful. Naming them all would just take too long, we never encountered any unfriendly staff. Our room was spacious and cleaned well every day. The morning Chef at the omelette station was great teaching you new Spanish phases every day. We did the Nicarauga Excursion, the Antares Sunset Sailing and Ziplining at the Hacienta El Roble all excellent. We had the best time in Costa Rica and could have stayed longer.

    “Fantastic spot, delightful people”

Always interesting to read other reviews. You wonder if you are staying at the same spot. Our stay was wonderful. We had an amazing, ocean front view. It was clean and quite spacious. The beach was stunning. The body surfing incredible. Great fun to watch the surfer dudes out in the waves. The food was good, meat and seafood at every meal (keep in mind it is buffet style). Fresh fruit at every meal...watermelon mouthwatering...Lastly, it was the employees of the resort who enriched our trip. They were engaged, friendly, professional and delightful. The front desk was amazing in helping us out (GiGi and Jenny especially) The dining room had Aldina (a doll) and Alberto Rodriguez who was so sweet and engaging not to mention professional and capable. Our a la carte meal was out of this world (octopus) and steak. The morning breakfasts in the dining room were a great start to the day, the chef would whip you up an omelet or eggs. I cant say enough how well we were treated but then we always go out of our way to meet and engage people. We will definitely return

    “Some good Some bad”

This was our first visit to Costa Rica - I had done a lot of research online for the best place to stay. Took a chance on this place. There are some very good things down to down right poor things about this resort. Front desk - not really friendly, language barrier or pretended to have a barrier bell hop- took bags to our room was super nice, always smiling and said hi when we saw him during our stay. Pool - amazing, large, clean, plenty of pool chairs and covered umbrella things. Spa - did not use this service Buffet - was good, there was a large variety, however it was pretty much the same every single day and after 10 days it got to be pretty boring. Most of the food is hot, and when it's super hot outside it would be nice to have a cold sandwich which is not an option. wait staff was friendly and attentive to needs. Desserts were really yummy! a-la-cart restaurant was excellent but we were only allowed to make 3 reservations even though we had paid the premium all inclusive fees. Food was good however the dessert portions were tiny. Wait staff was friendly. Room - here is where some of the bad comes in. We had a duplex suite. The couch you could not sit on, It was plastic fake leather that was cracking, the cushions sank into a gap a the front of the couch so you slid right off the couch. The jetted hot tub jets were covered in mold - no way in heck I was using that. The shower was broken so we had to go downstairs and use the shower down there, thankfully those units have 2 but was a pain. The bed was clean and somewhat comfortable, was a bit firm for our liking but that's a preference thing. The over all cleanliness was ok, not really good about cleaning behind doors and in the crooks and crannies. Sinks had a sewer smell to them and mold up under the edges. The A/C smelled of Mold and actually made me sick for the entire stay. The sliding door lock didn't work, we requested someone come look at it to fix it but no one ever came. We eventually got it to lock and then never opened it again. Premium all inclusive upgrade $30 per person per day so we paid $60 per day for this service and got NOTHING. We had pool towels in our room on day one only, never after that. Our mini bar was never full, we had to talk to the manager several times to get it filled and even then it was not full. 2 bottles of water per day was not acceptable, it was hot and paying that much money they could stock it full with water at least. The WIFI did not work in the rooms and only periodically worked at the pool. I own my own business and required WIFI however could not connect, ended up paying for international coverage on my cell phone so I could hot spot wifi to my computer. We were limited to only 3 dinners at the a-la-cart restaurant, the website doesn't say there is a limit, just that it requires a minimum of a 3 day stay, we were there 10 days. We never had a daily newspaper as advertised (no big deal to me but still) would discourage people from wasting their money on this service as you will not get anything for the $60. Beach was beautiful, not a lot of chairs to sit out on the beach, they are stuffed up under the trees. Lava flow rocks were cool. There is an estuary next to the resort which was neat but we were told not to up into there because of crocodiles. If you crossed the stream at low tide you better make it back before tide starts coming back in or it's not crossable. Walking the beach the other way was not as sandy it had more lava rock. We were not comfortable swimming there because you couldn't tell where lava rock would be and the surf was pretty strong. All in all it was OK - I doubt we will come back and stay there but we might. We will see.
