Barceló Bávaro Palace reviewed by J0e416 on . Great place for families We had a great trip here with 2 kids (7 yo, 2.5 yo). They loved the kids area with water slides and shallow pool as well as large pools and beach. Was surprised we only had access to Pirate ship... Rating: 5

    “Amazing resort; Amazing people”

The resort is huge, but designed so that everything is within a short walking distance. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The beach is expansive, clean, full of lounge chairs and the water is calm. The food is quite a variety and while not everyone will like everything there is so much to choose from you are certain to find a favourite. There is a huge theater with a dedicate entertain company that puts on nightly Las Vegas type shows. The cross section of guest is notable as well, and everyone is friendly to each other despite language barriers. The pools are also awesome, clean, cool water; with some having jacuzzi like sections and others having children sections. There is also a swim up bar or bars near by the pools. I could go on, but this resort is so worth a trip, you will be awestruck. There is a bit of something for everyone. This resort accomodated families and is not adults only, however the second resort in this complex is adults only and there are numerous sections where each share the others amenities. My family and I were thoroughly impressed and are working on our extended families to plan an even larger group for our next visit there; hopefully this year, but if not definitely 2019.

    “Family Trip”

We had a little trouble communicating with the staff at times as we do not speak Spanish. Food was good and labeled in many different languages. Be prepared to walk even to pick up the trolley that runs around the complex. This is a very big resort. My kids, 2 adult children and grandchild age 7 loved it.

“Seems like a large cruise ship with a beach”

If you enjoy large cruise ships, you will like this hotel -- buffet restaurants with several a la carte reservation required choices for dinner, nightly shows in large amphitheater (Michael Jackson tribute was actually pretty good), many activities during day (yoga, bingo, etc.), casino and lots of people. And, it comes with a beach with talcum-like sand. You can book in separate sections of the property -- adults, family and suites -- and pay for "premium" which gets you better access to reservations for restaurants, etc. Some observations -- 1. $10 per person entrance fee paid just before passport control at airport. 2. Lots of taxi drivers who appear to be just working on own. $30 seems to be going rate to Barcelo from airport. 3. Entrance to check into hotel is a bit confusing (particularly at night) -- before letting your driver go, make sure you see the bellmen. Surprisingly, people at check-in did not speak much english. Suggest signing up at Barcelo website for membership in their frequent stay club as you will get free internet and other benefits when you are a member and book through that website. 4. Getting reservations for restaurants is a hassle -- stand in line at concierge area. Suggest waiting until late when line is shortest. Try to get 8pm or so dinner reserrvation so don't have to kill as much time to 10pm show -- but good luck on that. 5. Internet is slow. TV didn't have channel covering College Football championship and watching via internet was impossible. Should have gone to Strikers sports bar in hotel as they probably carried. 6. Beach towels are in room closet. You can exchange wet/dirty towels at hut on beach. 7.Smoking allowed most everywhere, including rooms. 8. Favorite restaurant was La Fuentes for Spanish food and sangria. Grilled octopus was best I've ever had and paella was good as well. Excellent service. Las Brisas and Santa Fe steakhouse were both disappointing. 9. Good inventory of kayaks, wind surfing boards and sail boats for use. 10. I settled hotel bill the night before leaving. However, I still had to get a departure card to hand to bellman -- I guess they want to make sure you leave key cards. 11. I've read that there is a $20 per person departure fee, but it wasn't collected when I left airport. Also, completed a departure card at airport, but it was not collected either -maybe because flight left early morning? i flew Delta and they had a couple of machines to get boarding passes. Since I just had a carry on, I avoided the line to check in.

    “It is a resort”

This is a wonderful resort for those that enjoy resorts. Large, many facilities, nice bedrooms, good Caribbean service. Wonderful for a family of three generations. Very good drinks. Nice adults’ only section. Wonderful beach. The two main complaints were the food, of low quality at the restaurants (stick to the grilled food) and the crowded beach, that requieres you to “reserve” a lounge chair early in the morning

    “A perfect dream”

It has been perfect ! My family loved all entertainment provided everyday. The attention from all staff is great. The beach was very close from resort room and this helps when you have a kid. Restaurants are perfect and it looks I’ve been dreaming!
