    “Barcelo What Have You Done?”

    Yes Barcelo .. What have you done! To ensure this review is accurate and objective -we are First Club founders.. Yes since 1995! We have. Seen the best of what was originally The Diamond... Allegro .. Occidental and now Barcelo and the worst prior to the resort's closure .. Renovation.. Refurbish. We were married at the Resort in 2000 .. Have returned 25 times in 22 years. For the first time since 1995 we are unsure if we will return next year. We must first give credit the most amazing..kind and efficient staff that remain and who went above and beyond each day. Raul (First club manager) –a great job of taking care of any issues we had, Juan..Manuel (okey dokey) and Marcos -Dining Room (Buffet) Erick, Samuel, David, Riccardo, Lupita and the Captains Daniel and Adrianna ~ you made each meal so enjoyable -----Italian –Ulysees - extraordinary service always! If I missed you …my apologies but all of you are the reason we return each year! The chefs..cooks who prepared our breakfast lunch and dinner ... always with smiling faces -Thank-you! We returned this year to find our beloved First Club formerly overlooking the beach, moved to the front of the hotel overlooking the driveway up to the hotel enclosed by palms..REALLY ? Conversations had to made over diesel and truck fumes and noise. Tables set inside for who .. No one is eating there! The reason we bought into Occidental was to enjoy just a little luxury away from home. We returned to find our beach area now moved to the noisiest area of the resort .. Proximity is close to speakers for the main pool and gamies & music that we do not wish to share. The beach beds and loungers placed into a much smaller area. Loungers .. so uncomfortable … no cushions ...(we had them last year – where did they go?) We come to enjoy the ocean.. Relax .. Rest .. So we returned to the far side of the beach in front of where the First Club used to be. When the resort was Occidental .. First Club at the beach..cushions on the chairs... Fluffy towels ... Upgraded furniture in the rooms...Great snacks in the afternoon at the First Club .. Many we spoke with said .. Well it's OK... BARCELO WE DID NOT BUY OK – WE BOUGHT GREAT And you are not meeting the mark. So yes .. If you have concerns you speak to management.. I did .. Not once but twice and ... I gave you every opportunity to ask or enquire about our stay. You never did! The mangers over the many years we have met with have shown Concern...Considerate .. Listening. So .. To the current manager please do not respond to this critique ..as we spoke and it was evident that you did not feel the passion or consideration that we have for this resort! The first and most important dynamic of marketing and customer service is to listen to those have and continue to support and purchase your product. We have paid thousands of dollars and continue to provide cash flow with our maintenance fees. When occupancy is low we fill the void.. And it is the members who have kept this resort going during difficult times. You have missed the mark Barcelo !!!.. So very sad ..when you have such committed staff and loyal members . You have painted and polished the resort .. Thank-you - but we never came for that reason.. We came because of the people and the management who truly cared and knew the members were and should have an important voice.

    “First time at this resort”

    This resort is top-notch. Good food, great location, excellent staff and plenty of interesting activities. Especially helpful were Yuney Torres in reception, Erik and Julio who were waiters and Sergio in the activities staff. There were many other wonderful staff members too numerous too mention. I plan on returning for a future winter vacation.

    “many people return year after year and we can see why!!!”

    we have visited mexico many times in the last twenty years and it was a pleasant surprise indeed, we didn't understand why some people complain about this place, the service and the food exceeded our expectations, our room was very clean,all the public washrooms were checked and cleaned regularly and staff are on rotation in making sure everything is up to par. this hotel is very well maintained and everything works.the nightly shows are entertaining and fun. they even have their own signature dance with the audience after every performance which helps with the stiffness of being seated while watching the shows, it surely motivates you to keep going thru the night for a relaxing drink at the lobby bar listening to saxophone or violin before bed time. the entertainment team works around the clock with various activities from yoga, zumba and volleyball,bingo darts, football pool dumps and card games etc .i have to mention the excellent service from the staff at the buffet, after the first day Erick and Samuel, knew our names and remembered exactly what we needed for our breakfast drinks and seated us at our favorite table.Our bartenders by the pool, Ricardo,Ulysis, Manuel are the best !! and they don't water down the drinks here, if you want extra alcohol no problem, we loved the mango martinis and cantarita drinks. the servers, Julio Larcos, Luis, Alberto, fernando and Andres are genuinely friendly. thanks to all the entertainment team, Vicente, Luigi,Armando, Lisbeth, Jonathan, Esmeralda and Marco and must not forget Pancho, Sergio. at the al acarte rest. tokyo, grill chef louis and team put on a good show and food was great. the mariachi rest. food was good and a special thanks to the supervisors, the two davids. the italian rest.the food and service was great, the waiters alberto and louis were efficient and friendly.the on site scuba diving rep ernesto and twin dolphines dive company with their dedicated dive boat w/ washroom, and dive masters julio and diego are very good and efficient. the only negatives for us was no on site dance/disco club due to the design of the hotel and the noise amplification problem, but surely they could convert the theater to a disco until 1am or so.and no free wifi included you have to pay $12us a day. we did'nt up grade ,it was'nt worth it to us there was lots of beach chairs,and you only get 1 extra rest. and the basic booze package was fine.

    “February 15-19,2018 stay”

    Loved the food and the beach at this resort. The bar and food service staff were great. Kudos to Fernando our beach waiter. We couldn't of asked for a better one. Rooms were clean. My only suggestion would be to offer free wifi in the lobby and make the hot tub open to all guest.

    “Great place to stay in Nuevo Vallarta”

    We just got back from The Occidental hotel in Nuevo Vallarta and overall we really enjoyed our stay here. There were some “hiccups” during our stay because of our room situation but one member was an all star. Due to so many Palomas his name escapes me but he’s the main person in charge of the club. He was the star for us through the mishaps. We usually stay at the Riu Palace but wanted to try out a different hotel and it was a great change. The food here is very good to excellent in terms of all inclusive. But the dinners are very good period. Especially El Mariachi/La Hacienda with there birria. The staff overall is really attentive and do their best to take care of you. Especially Erik at the buffet. He always went out of his way to take care of my family and I. Would remember our name and introduce the staff to us. Made us feel special. Drinks were great. Made correctly. Not pouring out or skimping on the alcohol. Pool area was on the smaller side but was perfect for our needs. Beach was fantastic. Clean and no rocks. They had nightly events and the Friday before we left was mariachi/Mexican night. We loved it. The biggest negative for us was the “thin walls” especially at 2am when people down at the bar are yelling shots. When you’re on the 3rd floor and have white noise on and still hear it there’s an issue. Also the ability to get WiFi. It was great not being able to use my phone and disconnect from the world but when you want to turn on a movie for your kid WiFi is very handy. Note. Rooms are also a little on the smaller side but I liked it. I thought it was perfect as in reality it’s only there to sleep and shower. Would we return... absolutely. Great option for people looking to enjoy Nuevo Vallarta.
