“Lovely hotel - easy access to Bilbao city centre”

Family of four stayed in the Occidental for 10 days. Used adjoining rooms which gave the family adequate space for relaxing. The rooms are spacious with good bath / shower facilities. Beds were comfortable with decent black out curtains and quiet air con ensuring a good nights sleep. The rooms were spotless. The foyer had a large open area with a pool table that the kids enjoyed playing. There were ample seating with wifi throughout. The staff were friendly and attentive. Prices for food and drink was good although breakfast is pricey compared to the vast array of local bars offering coffee and pinxos for a fraction of the cost. The outdoor pool area was good although very busy on the warmer days as the gym members also used. There is access to the gym for a daily fee although we never used it - it did have a good selection of cardio and weights. The hotel is located in Santutxu, south of the old town. The underground is a 5 min walk and using the Bilbao Bizkia card offers excellent transport throughout the city and further afield. The area is quite hilly but didn't deter the kids.

    “Excellent value, great location.”

Very stylish and modern. Ideally located for central Bilbao, close to the metro and bus links but also a lovely walk into the town with a stunning view. Extremely comfortable beds (the pillows were amazing) and modern bathroom with good facilities. We didn’t get a chance to use the pool but it looked great and would have gone in if we’d had the time. Would highly recommend.

    “City break”

Lovely hotel, helpful, friendly, efficient staff with a nice relaxed atmosphere yet professional. Rooms are spotless with heaps of toiletries, robe, slippers. The executive room has separate sitting room, spacious and bright bathroom, lovely rainfall shower. Breakfast was really good, didn't dine there in the evening so can't comment on that. The hotel is a good 15 minute hike from the old town, down a very steep hill or steps. An elevator, referenced in previous reviews, is no longer operational, so be warned, if you don't like strenuous walk (I do). Down side... the outdoor pool is definitely not for swimmers, if like me, you want to start or end the day with 20+ lengths then forget it! The outdoor pool area is packed to capacity with the local leisure club/gym members,( the hotel website should not deceive guests by neglecting to mention this) standing around in the pool or sitting on the edge with legs in the water. The potential for collision, if attempting lane swimming is high. They get to use the facility for free yet hotel guests must pay €20per day, to use their indoor pool, which perhaps offers lane swimming?? I can't confirm as I could not justify and additional €20per day just to start my day with a swim. I found this aspect very disappointing as the reason for booking this hotel was the pool.

“Contemporary, convenient and comfortable place to stay”

The hotel was welcoming and had lots of activity in the reception area including a bar and restaurant. The room was contemporary and comfortable with good wifi. There was a great walk in shower in the bathroom. The room had a mini fridge and kettle. The location, at the edge of the old town, was great, and it was a lovely walk down the old steps towards the river. I stayed for 4 nights and the hotel met all my needs.

A discount* or promotional code (also appears as “promo code”) is a combination of letters and/or numbers that gives a discount on the normal rate. If you have a discount code, enter it when booking and you will receive a discount on your booking. Once you have entered this code, the prices shown in step 1 of the booking process will already include the relevant discount.

The discount does not apply to prices on extras and/or extra services, neither does it apply to prices on last available rooms. You can only apply one discount code per booking which will only be valid at the time of making your booking.**

The maximum amount of accumulated discount will be at most 25% off the rate for hotels in Latin America and at most 20% off the rate for European and Mediterranean hotels. It is possible to combine a discount code with a special discount*** (discounts when you book multiple rooms, senior, resident, millennials, large families, etc.) and the discount for being a my Barceló client.

*Barceló reserves the right to accept the application of advertised discounts.

**The application of the discount code is not valid upon arrival at the hotel; the discount is only applicable at the time of booking.

***The hotel will request to see valid official documents to verify compliance with the conditions for the discount codes and special discounts. In the event of not providing valid official documents or non-compliance, the hotel reserves the right to charge the amounts that were deducted from the original reservation.
