“We have been coming back for the last 4 years”

Really nice hotel (not quite the 5* luxury standard but still very nice). Nice gardens. Right next to the beach. Great with babies. I always forgot to right a review so finally I write it. We are looking forward to our next stay.

    “Disgusted”

I’m a member of Barcelo the hotel group that manages the royal hideaway resorts, and having previously stayed at La Bobadilla, another hotel in Andalucia in their group around 5 times, which is absolutely fantastic, I felt that because of the good reviews and my previous experience in staying at a hotel in this group I was assured of a great stay at a similar quality of hotel. How wrong I was. We had decided to do a two resort stay, with 5 nights at La Bobadilla and 4 nights at Sancti Petri. However the room I was trying to book online at Sancti Petri could only be booked for 5 nights, and due to the dates available at the other hotel this meant we couldn’t go on our desired dates which was important due to other commitments we had including (hospital appointments as I’m pregnant) and my husbands work commitments. I called Barcelo to see if they would relax the 5 day minimum room booking, considering a) I’m a regular customer b) that I was only trying a booking a few days before and c) overall I was planning to stay at the hotel groups hotels for 11 days. The staff at the barcelo call centre were great and immediately understood the issue and offered to call the reservations manager to see if they would accommodate my request. I was told after they had spoken to the reservations manager, the hotel would not be prepared to do this as, despite the hotels I was booking being part of the same hotel group, they were all managed separately and that no credit would be given to the fact I was staying at another hotel in the chain for the following few nights. That they were prepared to sacrifice the revenue for an 11 night stay over 1 night felt ridiculous and not very customer centric. I felt disappointed after having being a return customer of the group, but made the decision to change the dates of our holiday, and had to move a lot of appointments around to accommodate this, plus select a different airport to go from which was much less convenient for us. So we booked the ocean view room for 5 nights at Sancti Petri and the rest of our stay at La Bobadilla. Upon arriving at the hotel I was immediately surprised that they tried to charge me for car parking, despite this being included in the room type, and I corrected them, but only later realised why this had happened (because they hadn’t booked me into the room type I’d booked on their system)..... despite all of the inconvenience and their stubbornness and insistence that we booked the room for 5 nights, they didn’t have that room type available for the first of the 5 nights we booked! Unfortunately I only realised this later. So after checking in, and being shown to the first room, I told the person that took us to the room that it wasn’t the room type we’d booked. They told us it was and blatantly lied to us...this room had no ocean view and was on the ground floor. So we trecked back to reception to get the keys to the correct room, and upon going into that room it was abvious again that this was not the room we had booked. The staff tried to lie to us and convince me it was the room type. By this point after a long journey to get here I was fuming. Particularly as you can imagine that it was dawning on me that a) they were lying to me but b) I’d changed my whole holiday because they insisted that I book this room type for 5 nights, and now they wouldn’t check us in to the room I had booked because it wasn’t available. We trecked back to reception again and I asked for the manager. The duty manager came to talk to us and explained that the room wasn’t available as I’d already guessed and my blood boiled. I was absolutely disgusted at the treatment I was receiving and that they hadn’t explained that the room wasn’t available when we first checked in. If I hadn’t just had an 9 hour journey to get there and it was earlier in the day (it was about 6:30pm by this point) I’d have walked out immediately and gone somewhere else, however, I was extremely tired and so against my better judgement we visited another 2 lower standard rooms (at least these were not overlooking a car park like the first one) to find one that we felt was the best of a bad bunch to spend our first night in. Admittedly, there was an apology and an offer to upgrade us to half board, but this in no way felt like compensation for what had happened. So 2 hrs or so after arriving, we finally got into our room and decided to eat at the buffet. I really wish I hadn’t. Again I’m comparing the food to la Bobadilla as I honestly had expected something of a similar quality, however the Mexican buffet and experience was simply awful. The food on the buffet was cold, and after ordering fresh tacos, we were given some that had been sat under lamps for god knows how long. Fortunately I felt the temperature of them before eating as I’m pregnant and was concerned about eating food that had been sat there. I chose not to eat them but was so hungry I ended up eating some of the food that had been stood under lamps that I thought despite being cool would be safe to eat. I really could go on about how bad the food, the waiting staff and the experience was but frankly I’ve wasted enough time complaining to the managers at this hotel to go into it in any more detail. The breakfast buffet was the same and the whole atmosphere was like that of a canteen. Maybe this is the typical experience at all inclusive / half board resorts, but it is certainly not one that I wanted to experience, and so after leaving the cold breakfast eggs and bacon we decided to check out and go somewhere else. I complained to the manager about all of my points and all he could do was apologise, I never got an adequate explanation about why they were insistent I booked 5 nights when they only had the room for 4 nights anyway, nor could they explain why staff had deliberately lied to me about the first two rooms I was shown being the standard I’d booked. It was just meak apology after meak apology and totally inadequate for the time, effort and money I had wasted on this hotel. I frankly never want to speak to anyone at the hotel again. Overall I was absolutely appalled at the situation and frustrated beyond belief, not a good situation to find yourself in when pregnant so I couldn’t wait to leave. Of course we still had to pay our bill for the room we didn’t book. The final straw for me was when 2 mins after leaving, I had to rush into the food store literally 3 mins drive away to use the bathrooms. Yes being pregnant I’m more sensitive to picking up bugs, however, I wish I had not eaten any of the food from that hotel. We went to Villa Padierna near Estepona to complete our remaining 4 nights before the trip to La Bobadilla and whilst we had an amazing time at those other hotels, this experience really spoilt my holiday. In fact I had considered not writing this review, but nearly 6 months later it is still on my mind and so I decided to share my experience with others.

    “The perfect place to relax”

My family and I stayed here for 5 days during the half term. We were dropped off at the main reception of the hotel. It was beautiful. It also smelt amazing. I felt so relaxed. Check in was a breeze. Our room was ready - even though we were before the check in time. We walked around to the apartment reception where we were greeted by a really friendly guy who explained where our room was, how to get to the beach etc. We were in block 2. The apartment was huge! We chose an apartment as our daughter is getting older (15) and she (and us) wanted some privacy. The rooms are very spacious and the place was spotless. I cooked breakfast a few mornings for us as we hit the gym and always missed it in the restaurant. The supermarket isn't that far away from the hotel. We walked it. There are 4 pools on this complex and a great beach (it was 7 euros per lounger) The grounds are beautiful and the whole place is so peaceful. Food is great and so are the cocktails! Make sure you check out the pool bar by the kids pool. It was a sun trap from 5.30pm onwards. Gym - very good. had a range of weights, bikes and running machines. It basically did the job. Buffet - We only ate here once as we like to venture out for dinner. Most places are a short cab ride away. Food was plentiful and the desserts were amazing. I've never seen such a choice. They also had a sweet section which was a hit. Also try the hotel restaurant, the one as you are walking down to the kids pool on the path. I cant remember the name but the food was really good. Staff - Very friendly and helpful. English is not spoken by the waitresses much but you get by. Check out the shop in the hotel as they had some beautiful kaftans, bags and earrings. They weren't cheap but nice to have things which you know people wont have. we all loved this place, even my daughter had a great time. Looking forward to going back next year for another break.

“Great facilities however not a 5*.”

Great facilities but the service and food at buffet is not of a 5*. You could tell they were short staffed and the quality of the food was not what I expected of a 5* experience. We did not get value for money - I've stayed in other hotels in Sancti Petri for less and had a better experience.

    “Great Hideaway spot ”

We had our annual conference in the stunning hotel. We have regrettably stayed only couple of days - but I just wished we stayed longer. If you enjoy morning run on the beach, great food, sandy beach only couple of minutes walk from the hotel ( hotel itself has a number of swimming pools) and just perfect spot to watch sunset in the bar on the beach - this hotel is for you! I hope I’d get a chance to visit again
