Surroundings of Agadir
Like almost all tourist cities, Agadir has some interesting surroundings for its beauty, heritage or history that is worth visiting in a tourist getaway in this Moroccan capital. The most popular excursion for travelers arriving in Agadir is the one to Paradise Valley, a beautiful natural park located about 20 kilometers from Agadir and is dotted with rivers, palm trees and rocks. It has some delicious natural pools of translucent waters formed by the action of several waterfalls. Undoubtedly, a natural gem that you must visit if you have two or three hours to devote to it on your trip to Agadir.
The same goes for the Sus-Masa National Park, which offers unforgettable landscapes. It is located 65 kilometers south of Agadir on the road to Tiznit, at the mouth of the river of the same name, and is bordered by dunes. Here, lagoons abound with countless ostriches, ibis eremita, purple herons and other species of aquatic fauna, making it one of the main destinations for ornithological tourism in Morocco. And according to legend, it was on the lonely beaches of Masa that the whale brought the prophet Jonah back to earth.
Taroudant, located in the Sus river valley, is also worth a visit. It is 82 kilometers from Agadir and is one of the most beautiful cities in Morocco. It has spectacular ochre-colored walls with a length of more than 6 kilometers that were part of an ancient citadel with about 130 towers and turrets that made it impenetrable to enemies. In addition to the walls, you should visit the medina, the souk, the kasbah and its gardens.
Another possible tourist destination is Inezgane, about 13 kilometers south of Agadir, an important commercial center and main transportation hub for the region, as it is at the intersection of the roads leading to Marrakech, Ouarzazate and Tiznit. It is a city famous not only for its silver jewelry souks, but also for its market, which takes place every Tuesday and is attended by people from all the neighboring villages. In addition, in this city takes place the colorful and famous Bilmawen carnival, of Amazigh origin, whose origin is lost in the distant past.
If you have the chance, do not miss the Nile Crocodile Park, Crocoparc, with more than 300 specimens in a four-hectare park that recreates their natural habitat in Egypt. In the park, located 15 kilometers from Agadir, there are also iguanas, monkeys, frogs and turtles, as well as a wide variety of rare plants from different parts of the world and a cactus garden worth seeing. It is a highly recommended experience, especially if you are traveling with children, as there is a playground, a cafeteria and a souvenir store within its facilities.
And if you are passionate about caving, do not miss the Wib-Timdouine caves, located 70 kilometers from Agadir on the road to Marrakech. This is the largest subway cave on the African continent, with more than 19 kilometers of galleries with a variety of wildlife, especially crustaceans and insects. However, to visit the cave you must contact a guide who will be in charge of “showing” the wonders of the cave.
