Journey into one of northern Navarre’s most mysterious regions on this excursion from Pamplona to the Baztán Valley and the Zugarramurdi Caves. The route passes through Atlantic scenery, traditional villages and locations deeply connected to local legends and centuries-old folklore.
The activity begins at 09:30 heading towards Elizondo, the main town of the Baztán Valley and one of the most distinctive places in the Navarrese Pyrenees. Noble houses, wooden balconies and stone bridges crossing the Bidasoa River create the characteristic atmosphere that inspired several literary works set in this region.
After walking through its streets and squares, the route continues to the Zugarramurdi Caves, a natural site historically associated with ancient covens and the inquisitorial trials that took place during the 17th century. The large rock galleries carved by water and the surrounding woodland have fuelled stories connected to witchcraft and Basque mythology for generations.
During the visit, you will learn about the historical and cultural background of this remarkable site while walking through landscapes shaped by dense vegetation, humidity and striking rock formations. The experience also recalls the literary world of the Baztán Trilogy written by Dolores Redondo, whose novels brought international attention back to the valley.
Return to Pamplona is scheduled for around 15:00, leaving behind green mountains, ancient legends and villages that preserve the spirit of northern Navarre.
