Description
Montserrat and the Bages wine region bring together some of Catalonia’s most distinctive landscapes in a day filled with heritage, nature and local gastronomy. Departing from Barcelona, this experience combines the region’s most iconic monastery with a guided winery visit surrounded by vineyards beneath the mountain range.
The tour begins at Barcelona Nord Bus Station, where you will meet your local guide and the rest of the group before travelling towards Montserrat. The mountain’s dramatic rock formations and spiritual significance have made it one of Catalonia’s most recognisable landmarks. During the guided visit, you will walk through the basilica, the atrium, the cloister and Santa María square while learning about the history of the famous Black Madonna.
After the guided portion, there will be free time to enjoy the monastery surroundings, admire panoramic mountain views, browse local market products or relax with a coffee overlooking the landscape. Montserrat’s unique geology creates a scenery unlike anywhere else in the region.
The route then continues to Oller del Mas, an organic winery located within a 10th-century castle surrounded by vineyards. Recognised with the prestigious “Vi de Finca” distinction, the estate is considered one of the leading wineries in Catalonia. The guided visit includes the vineyards, production areas and barrel room while introducing the winemaking process behind its organic wines.
The experience concludes with a tasting of three organic wines paired with a cold tapas lunch and dessert, all enjoyed with open vineyard views and Montserrat rising in the background.
The scent of oak barrels, the quiet atmosphere of the vineyards and the silhouette of Montserrat accompanying the horizon create a remarkably balanced setting throughout the day. Between historic monasteries and glasses of wine shared beside the vines, the rhythm of the experience feels calm, authentic and deeply connected to the landscape.
