“Returning Customer, still one of the best but can always improve.”

This was our 5th visit to the Barcelo Fuerteventura and it was a wonderful stay. We started going to this hotel in 2008 and in the 10-years it has improved immeasurably. They have managed to address a number of their weaknesses very effectively and have managed to turn this hotel into a very impressive venue if you are looking for a beach holiday with children and entertainment. The positives are numerous but knowing some of the staff from nearly a decade ago is testament to how well Barcelo must treat their employees. We found them friendly, approachable and always willing to help, Orlando and Jesus were as charming and attentive as ever. The entertainment team (Juan, John and Rafa especially) were outstanding - my children loved their company and the time spent with them - thanks. The entertainment programme was constant, my 16-year old I never saw, the shows were great fun and overall the team was terrific company. Also love the new touchscreen signage around the restaurant to show you what's on. The rooms (we stayed in block 2) have been fully refurbished and were beautiful although the lights in 2207 were quite dim in the sink area (need changing). The bed was very comfy, the air conditioning working and very cold, TV had BBC1, the shower was powerful and hot, and the balcony facing the sea and sun, all positive. The outdoor areas are gated and locked, so you don't need to worry about wandering kids. I found the pools beautiful (personal preference). Pool bar was stunning with new soft seating in the sun, staff at the pool bar were attentive and quick. Have to say a big mention for the ground staff, the bird of paradise plants were truly stunning as was the rest of the plants and flowers, how they keep grounds to such a high standard in that heat is a herculean task I'm sure. The mini golf, the kids loved (as did I, 56 was my best score on the hardest course!) you get a discount as a resident, but it is in need to a tidy-up as the course was looking worn and in need of some TLC (its not cheap to play so you'd expect a bit more quality and attention). Reception was efficient but the check-in was tougher than it needed to be, you can tell on the Saturday reception are bracing themselves from the onslaught of the changeover and moving weary travellers into their rooms as quickly as possible was a priority. We however (as returning customers) wanted to upgrade to all inclusive and have the 10% discount applied which foxed the reception staff, meaning we had to wait until the morning "when the manager was in", clearly a brush off as the following morning we had the same discussion with a different member of staff, no manager. In the end we got there, but with a 12-year old the staff attempted to label her as an adult when upgrading to AI. We argued she was a child and paid half, but 27 euros compared to 13.5 per day for a 12 year old to be AI is a bit steep IMO. So the lesson here is make sure your reception staff know who is arriving - I did email the hotel a week before to let them know my intentions on arrival. Finally - always been a big debate is the restaurant. Personally I find the food very nice and with some imagination you can pretty much have what you like. The salads are delicious, some of the meat dishes can be a bit samey but its decent compared with other hotels. My advice is, if you expect 5* dining, book and pay for a 5* hotel. I've always travel here in peak times and I find the restaurant can become overwhelmed by the volume of diners in at times especially at breakfast and dinner. They have another restaurant, Aloe by Night, that is chargeable but was pretty much empty for 2-weeks - other AI hotels I have been to give you access to this free for one evening per week, this would thin the volume of the main restaurant if they allowed people to use Aloe by Night - just a thought. Check-out always a difficult day if you have a later flight but they have invested in nice showers for you to use which is a nice touch. Overall - this hotel delivers exactly what it say's on the tin. Its a quality hotel with excellent staff a very effective entertainment team but has some improvements it could make but not many. I'd definitely return and recommend to friends and family.

    “Doesnt live upto expectations”

Food veriety very poor and 90% cold. Cocroaches in main restaurant, very off putting. Pools are freezing cold and are salt water and cause stinging and irritation if goes in eyes. Sun loungers are plentiful but crammed so close together you cant move. No small tables and very few parasols. Rooms are spacious and beds 10 out of 10 for size and comfort. Unfortunately rooms are not replinished with tea coffee or water once used which is very annoying. Safes & beach towels are both chargeable. Its sold as a spa hotel with indoor swimming pool but 20 euros a day EACH to use these facilities is disgraceful. Evening shows were good but started very late for little ones. This hotel is clean but is not in our opinion 4 star.

    “Third Visit Here”

Just returned from another fantastic family holiday (previously visited 2013 and 2016). The hotel is spotlessly clean and extremely well maintained. All the staff here work extremely hard to keep these high standards and are all friendly and polite. The food choice, quality and beautiful presentation in the restaurant has been first class on every visit. Breakfast - freshly cooked pancakes, waffles, churros, omelettes, full English, continental, breads, fruits, cereals, juice, smoothies. The list is endless! Lunch/dinner - again amazing selection of food. Always fresh fish and meat being cooked on the show cooking grill, gorgeous pizzas, pasta, huge salad choice, paella, rices, assorted other hot fish/meat dishes, good vegetable selection, fantastic choice of desserts and cheese and biscuits! There were a couple of theme nights. The chocolate fountain was fantastic! You will be spoilt for choice. The food is constantly being topped up and it’s always clean and tidy and I’ve never on any visit seen it looking messy. The waiters and waitresses are all lovely here. Always polite and never waited long for drinks. Great to see Carlos is still here. We thought Alberto and Jesseine were very professional and friendly too. Aloe Bar situated next to main pool and overlooks the mini golf is great too. Good drinks service. You can sit inside or outside on terrace. Lovely here in the evening for a relaxing drink and sometimes there was live music. The snack bar has the same high standard as the restaurant. Self service drinks and a really good choice of food throughout the day. Again spotlessly clean and tidy. The pool areas and all the grounds are well looked after. No problem getting sunbeds. The animation team and all the activities they offer has got to be the best I’ve ever seen at a hotel. They really put in so much effort and you’re not pressurised into joining in if you don’t want to. Evening entertainment was always great. Lion King show a favourite. Waiter service too in the evenings when you’re watching entertainment in the air conditioned theatre. My daughter and I particularly enjoyed the aqua fit, combat and Zumba. My two boys played football on the court most afternoons and evenings which is organised by the team. There are two table tennis tables and a pool table. Two mini golf courses, tennis court and paddle tennis just outside. Fridays there were inflatables in the pool, foam party in the kids pool and music. Our room was thoroughly cleaned and beds made daily. Fresh towels regularly, toiletries provided, tea/coffee available, mini fridge. The resort is great too. Selection of bars, restaurants and shops. Nice clean beach just outside hotel. We walked five minutes down to the harbour a couple of times to hire a pedalo and feed the fish. One day our door handle became stuck, reported it to reception and within a few minutes a friendly guy turned up to fix it. My daughter had a relaxing facial at the spa which is just next to the hotel. She loved it there. Was great to catch up with a lovely family who we recognised from our 2015 trip! It was their fourth visit. Honestly have nothing negative to say about this hotel. The staff here are a credit to Barcelo. Would most definitely recommend a visit if you’re looking for an amazing holiday.

“Great hotel for families with children”

This is a great hotel with fantastic staff, family entertainment and facilities. The entertainment (Animation) team are enthusiastic, putting something interesting on for both kids and adults; whether that's water aerobics, yoga, dacing, or kids activities. Our daughter really enjoyed the kids club and made a great friend whilst on holiday. The hotel staff are really polite and forward leaning. We stayed on an all inclusive package, which was fairly good. The drinks were good and the all inclusive package included decent brands and varieties. All meals were served as a buffet, with plenty of choice, although it was monotinous at times. The deserts were great and my daughter was spoilt for choice! The swimming pools are really good, clean and a decent temperature, never crowded and sunbeds are always available. The hotel frowns upon people laying down towels the night before to secure sunbeds, which is good and the majority of guests complied with this. They have a no floats in the pool rule, although they are lenient on this and everyone had floats, which was good. Point to note though, the pool water is very salty! The only negative points I have is on the standard of our room, which warrants the loss of a point. It was nicely laid out and very presentable. However, there was a fair bit of mend-and-make-do repairs and faults (see pictures). This did'nt bother me enough to warrant a complaint or request a room change, but was dissapointing. As already mentioned, the hotel is fantastic and has a great atmosphere, but in my opinion, is now at a point where it may need a bit of refurbishment to maintain the standard. Tiles were loose around the complex, pool tiles missing and coming loose, and some of the chairs were in disrepair. That said: the hotel was good value for money and we had a great time. Would definitely recommend this hotel for families with kids.
