    “Beautiful Property”

I chose this resort based on the comments by guests and the photographs found online. I wanted to find something different than the usual all-inclusive resorts, and this most certainly was exceptional. Check in and check out was fairly simple. Make sure to arrange your transportation back to the airport a few days prior to leaving so you know how to space your time on departure day. **Bring lots of $1's and $5's with you. Yes it's an all inclusive but you're in a very poor country and those folks go out of their way to make this vacation great for you. We usually tipped $5 at dinner, to the bartender and to housekeeping. Some $1's at the snack bar, cocktail waitress or breakfast. You can use US dollars for purchases instead of pesos and they'll give you US dollars as change. The front desk will only break a $20 bill for you so it's best to plan ahead and bring small bills. The buildings were well maintained and the grounds kept clean by a huge staff. You were greeted at every turn by a friendly face. Plenty of pathways to explore so make sure to take good walking shoes! Down by the beach there is a Mayan ruin to check out. There is a shuttle at different points on the property to move you from one spot to another. This property is pretty large so to get from the lobby building to the beach is a long walk. Use the shuttles! The food was very good. We ate at a couple of the a la carte restaurants which were so-so. The main buffet was awesome and never disappointed! Paco's Tacos for a late night snack was delicious! By the main pool there is a snack bar which was also very good for lunch or just an afternoon snack. The wildlife was everywhere! Monkeys, monkeys, monkeys! Take a banana from the buffet and leave it on your balcony. We watched over half a dozen times while they snatched and ran or sat and ate on our balcony. Truly amazing!! Lots of large iguanas too. Look out for monkeys swinging in the trees above your head. You are in their home and when they have to go to the bathroom, there is no designated place! The staff is wonderful at keeping that clean. Just watch for falling things if you hear the branches moving. lol Connected to the property is Xcaret Park. So worth a visit! It's connected in the lobby by foot path or river boat. There is also an entrance by the beach. This is an ecological adventure with rivers to float, dolphins to swim with and gorgeous beach pools to bathe in. So many sea creatures and animals to see. Make sure to bring a waterproof camera or get a protective case for your cell phone. A pair of water shoes would also be a good idea. If you want pictures of your time in the park doing activities, it's going to get wet. It's not a particularly hot, sunny type of day because the park is heavily covered in trees and plants. Just a pair of sunglasses worked for us unless you want to relax by the beach for an extended period of time. Applied sunscreen before leaving the hotel and didn't really need much else. Catch the show in the front part of the park at 7. It's the history of Mexico done with dance and music. If you're staying at the hotel, cross back over for lunch and dinner to save the expense at the park. Take an excursion or two. They can be a bit expensive but totally worth the memorable experiences. We found Tulum and the ruins to be quite interesting. Would I go back? Definitely!

    “Beautiful place ”

We spent 10 days at occidental xcaret at the beginning of February. The weather was great- 31 degrees and full sun everyday. Service was great. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was good and there was lots to choose from. We enjoyed all of the al la carte's although they do not accept reservations unless you are a VIP therefore there were times we had to wait 30-45 minutes for a table. We enjoyed the beach. It was well kept and filled with aquatic life. It was great for snorkelling. There are also a few pools around the resort. One with a pool bar accompanied with upbeat music and a volleyball court, one with jacuzzis which was a lot more quiet and peaceful and one with all day entertainment such as bingo, water polo and water aerobics. The room was nice and simple. Our balcony over looked the pool. Our balcony did not have a screen door- only a glass door. It would have been nice to have a screen door so we could have the fresh air during the night as mosquitos would get in if you left the glass door open. We also struggled to get face cloths. The day we arrived we had 2 face cloths in our room. The following days they did not replace them despite our requests. We called the front desk and house keeping several times but never revived any face cloths. The biggest down fall to this resort is how they push everyone to purchase a timeshare. My boyfriend and I were only in Mexico for 10 days on vacation- the last thing we wanted to do was waste our time going on tours and being pressured to purchase a timeshare. They are very pushy. The breakfast lasts longer than 90 minutes and it is not worth your time. We very much regret wasting our whole morning at a timeshare breakfast. The Eco park attached to the resort is incredible. We really enjoyed it. It is very big with lots to see and do. The hotel also offers several excursions. We went zip lining, ATVing and swimming in caves. It was only $85 per person for the day. It was well worth the money. On our second last day my boyfriend set up a "romantic dinner" where they set up a private table in a gazebo over looking the ocean. The service was incredible and food was amazing. It couldn't have been any better of an evening thanks to Max our waiter. Overall very nice resort with tons to offer. It is very large with plenty to do any see.

    “our wedding”

The hotel is beautiful and it has a royal section which makes it even more exclusive. My wife and I got married there and it was unbelievable. There were couple of things that we did not like about our room since we did request an upgrade for our wedding to have a nicer room for the photos and video. even though it was offered as "subject to availability" , it wasn't ready with the amenities that we were offered. Nevertheless after the wedding we got an upgrade and Stayed at the royal place. our wedding planner Melanie was awesome and she made everything she could to make us happy. The hotel could be really busy so be prepared to wait for a little while and after that relax.
