    “When Big is Better”

I stayed for 2 fantastic weeks with my 17year old son on an all-inclusive basis. This was our second stay at a Barcelo resort, at the biggest hotel in the Barcelo world and at peak season. My initial concern of long queues, no sunloungers, overcrowded swimming pools etc proved completely unfounded. There are 4 spacious themed and very efficiently managed restraunts serving high quality buffet-style meals, massive pools and bags of loungers. Hotel is family orientated and located close to a beautiful uncrowded Sandy beach 10 minutes walk away via a boardwalk. Rooms are spacious with individual air-conditioning. Finally,I must congratulate all staff from General Director to the young lady continuously cleaning around sunbeds for a courteous customers-focussed service. If you think this review is too good to believe, try it for yourself.

Estimado Peter, Firstly, we would like to thank you for the lovely review you shared following your recent visit to our Barceló hotel and are delighted to read that we were able to match your holiday expectations. We are glad to read all your opinion. As you say, there is a beach near here which is virgin, indeed you have to cross a natural protected park to reach the coast, this is something that makes even more beautiful the coast of the place. Also, we thank for highlight the work of all the people is working here. For us it is the most appreciate treasure, our people, who are the ones who make from this place a dream spot. Again, we thank you for this very kind review of our hotel and we look forward to serving you again in the future. Kind regards, Duarte Vasconcelos General Manager Barceló Punta Umbría Beach Resort

“Nice but average saved by a fab beach”

This is a rather large resort, went near the end of September and found quite a lot was closed as it was already out of season. However, we were a couple and therefore plenty enough for us to do. Accommodation was good, bed one of the most comfy I have slept in. Things getting a little tired looking but very clean and we were pleased with what we got. Food - loads and loads of it but quality was not great. We are not fussy eaters at all and will eat most things but found we ate mainly bread, cheese and fruit for the week. Drinks - great choice of drinks but the queues were horrendous. Location - good location lots in the surrounding area and walkable as long as you don't expect things literally on your doorstep, Beach - wow wow wow. Wonderful beach, loads of space and goes on for miles. Overall great location, superb beach, good accommodation but food not great.

Dear Guest, First and foremost, we would like to thank you for choosing our Barceló Punta Umbría Beach Resort for your holidays and for recommending us to the travel community of Tripadvisor, this is undoubtedly the best reward for us all. We regret that our buffet couldn´t meet your expectations, mainly because the quality of our culinary offer counts to our strengths. We take your comments regarding our cuisine very seriously, because we wish that our gastronomy remains a very special treat for our guests. In the other hand, we are grateful to read that you love the location of our Resort, which is next to a natural protected setting, through where you reach a wide virgin beach. Thank you once again for making us your choice hotel and for your constructive critics, we certainly look forward to serving you again and to have the opportunity to exceed your expectations in a not too distant future. Kind regards, Duarte Vasconcelos General Manager Barceló Punta Umbría Beach Resort

“A pleasant stay at this resort”

This is a resort not simply a hotel. It is huge and in 3 parts. The left and right buildings on the complex are mirror images. The middle building houses the spa, another pool and American style restaurant. This is mainly a Spanish resort, Spanish led and little English is spoken. Punta Umbria town is small and not much to write home about. We travelled with Thomas Cook and stayed during the last week in September and this review is based on our experience. We asked for a quiet room and this was provided, on 3rd floor with a balcony which was nice to sit out on. Fortunately our room was ready on arrival, after a very early morning flight. After check-in we dropped off the luggage and went to breakfast, then went for a sleep to catch up. Check-in can take up to late afternoon before you are allocated a room The hotel was very busy over the week end with Spaniards on week end visits, by th quieted during the week. You are allocated meal times (2 sittings) for lunch and dinner; we had the first sittings at 1.30 and 8pm which suited us. At times depending on the time it tended to be a bit like Butlins, especially at breakfast. The best time to go is when the restaurant first opens. There is plenty of choice, but the food is not served hot, and being buffet style, quickly goes cold. The salad and dessert buffets were lovely. I would have preferred hot rather than warm food. The bar staff were very pleasant and the drinks on the all inclusive basis were very good. The bedroom was comfortable and clean. Public areas were kept clean and tidy. 2 buildings closed during our stay and only our part of the resort was open. Don't think we particularly missed out on much but did not have choice or use of all amenities resort advertises; not an issue for us but other reviews mention this unfavourable. Overall we had a nice stay. No particular complaints, no particular disappointments if you have reasonable expectations. Did not join in the welcome meeting nor go on any trips offered by tour operator.

    “Good But Has Faults”

We don't wish to repeat a recent review test thought summed it up well. As we arrived 25 Sept for one week parts if the hotel were closed - it is a huge complex. This meant just one restaurant in use for us all the time. Food was varied to a point, but our main issue was the warm not hit food all the time. Salads were nice & fresh and there were definitely some nice dishes. However, the hot food was nearly sweats only warm and just about cooked. My wife had a slice of pizza one evening that was not cooked and you could see the dough. Food to us is important and this was our main concern. That said the hotel is in a very nice location and beach area very quiet and close by. It us not an area of Spain we have visited and was very nice. Lovely pool (some tiles near the edge needed cleaning) , plenty of sun beds. Staff all seemed generally friendly. Our room was large and very nice and kept very clean. It was quite a walk to the restaurant, but we did ask in advance fir a quiet room on the top (3rd) floor so cannot complain. Would we return to the area? Yes it was nice. Would we return to the hotel? Not sure as the food was an issue. We met another couple on the same transfer and they stayed at the Barcelo Punta Umbria Mar (across the road) and sounded they had similar thoughts on the food. As an aside we did have an excursion to Seville which was lovely. We managed to book this on the day we arrived with our Thomas Cook rep. She was fairly invisible and useless to Bd honest most of the week. We got caught up in the Monarch airline collapse, but did get home the day as scheduled, but about 4 hours late.

Dear Guest, In Barceló we strongly believe that there is always room for improvement and your comments will assist our team in their continuous efforts aimed at meeting our guests' expectations, therefore we greatly appreciate the time you took out of your day to share your constructive critics. In one hand, we have taken notes about your comments of the food. And it would be a pleasure to tell you that the kitchen department has been already informed about it in order to heat up the warmer to have the food hotter. Thanks for the comment. In the other hand, we are glad to read that you loved the location of the building which is ravishing. Our resort is next to a natural protected spot through where you reach a virgin beach.
