    “Big and noisy”

Went here for a week with a friend. The hotel is large, but has a nice feel to it, the staff don't all speak much English but with a smattering of Spanish we got by. The staff were very friendly, although we did feel some of them were a bit 'military' about the opening times of the restaurant, we tried five minutes before it actually opened and were shooed away. The majority of holiday makers were Spanish which was great, there were lots of children at the resort and to be honest they were extremely noisy especially at meal times, the restaurants were large and there was plenty of good quality food which we enjoyed, but the noise, was at times deafening. Wine in the restaurant was nice, red and white. The rooms were ok, comfortable beds and big enough, showers great, toilet was a bit high, I'm 5'6 and my feet dangled! The beach was a good walk away especially in the near 40 degree heat, beach bar was the only real shade. The water didn't entice me in, too shelly. Outside of the resort there were a few shops to walk around. The entertainment was in Spanish so some of it we could appreciate, but the comedian past us by.. we enjoyed our week but don't think we will return.

    “Great and big hotel”

The hotel is very family friendly, lots of entertainment for the kids, lots of dancing and games, entertainers were really good. The rooms are very big and clean. It's about 10 mins walk to a fantastic beach, the pool is large with plenty of sunbeds. All staff are really helpful and trying to speak English, but you can imagine they can't know all the languages of the guests, like French and Polish, but I was really happy with the service and responsiveness. Only fault is timings of all inclusive snacks and the variety of it. Breakfast is OK, nothing special, lunch and dinner varied and was good you can try different restaurants for dinner with different atmosphere and variety of food. Overall, it is a great 4star hotel much better in high season when more things are open. A bit far from centre of Punta Umbria, 5 mins and 5 euro by taxi, but plenty to do around it. We enjoyed our holiday and recommend it!

Very nice hotel. Close to 12km sandy beach. Massive room, clean daily. Very nice restaurants, every evening different location within the hotel. Only international alcohol for all inclusive option. I would highly recommend the hotel.

“Facilities are good, food, unfortunately, is not. ”

Barceló Punta Umbría Beach Resort is a peaceful and relaxing hotel with a real resort feel. The rooms are pretty basic, certainly not five star but that's fine as it doesn't pretend to be either. Pools are great, there's plenty of them and no shortage of space. It's set just back from the beach which is a very short stroll away. So if you're looking for a holiday destination off the beaten track a bit for some R&R then it's a great choice. If I was only rating the facilities themselves then the hotel would be a solid four stars. But, and it's a big but, the food... It's not good. It's not good at all. We stayed for five days and by day two we were ready to escape. Very basic buffet food, more like a school cafeteria than a nice hotel. It was tasteless and if I'm honest really dragged down our stay. And I'm by no means a foodie. The kicker was that there were a number of restaurants on site but they were just never open. I don't know why. So we were just left with the same selection day after day. I don't think I saw the American restaurant open once? When you're on an all-inclusive package you really feel short changed when the food is bad. This is compounded somewhat by the fact that there's really very little dining options outside the hotel either. Like I said it's really off the beaten track a bit. Additionally the drinks are small, a beer comes in a comically small glass, and yes whilst technically you can keep going back to the bar it's little things like this that really stick in your mind. There was one last thing that annoyed me somewhat, and again, has stuck in my mind as indicative of the hotel. One night as I left the restaurant I went to leave with an apple in my hand that I had started to eat. The staff member on the door quite literally pushed her hand onto my chest and said "not permitted". Not permitted? To take an apple back to my room on an all-inclusive package? And I had taken a bite! Absurd. So I put the half eaten apple back and left. Management really need to sort issues like that out it's service like this that can really ruin an stay. Was an okay experience overall but certainly wouldn't be recommending to friends.
