“Trip to Occidental at Xcaret Destination”

The Trip was good, The staff was very nice and friendly. The only problem was English language. Also they do not provide any shuttle service at Resort or to the main entrance. However, the main entrance is about 20 minutes walk. Also they do not have larger beach area. You see only small beach area made by them.

“Another wonderful week at Occidental at Xcaret”

Just returned from a week at Occidental Xcaret in First Club. Went with my family and grandson who is 3. Everyone at the resort was very kind and friendly with him and remembered his name and went out of their way to speak to him or high five him. They even got special food for him to eat, pizza at the steak restaurant! The resort is very children friendly and accommodating from the Kid's Club to the entertainment. When we first arrived we were met by Victor Martinez and his wonderful smile. We had met Victor the year before at Royal Club and were hoping to see him again. He recognized us when we got out of the transfer bus and remembered us and our names. (Who does that)? Throughout the week we saw Victor numerous times on the property and each time he greeted us with his great smile and Hola! There was one day I couldn't find my family at the kids Club and Victor made sure I got there and was glad to help me. On our last day to return home, there was Victor to help us with our luggage, to make sure we made it on time to the airport. He made a special effort to tell my family bye, it was like telling an old friend bye. Then Moses, what a great guy! We were so glad to see him, also. He also remembered us. Mose's enthusiasm is infectious. Always there to help with anything you need. We were served each day at the Beach Buffet by Gabino. He was so good to our family and my grandson. We would even go to the activities pool at noon to eat, to be served by him! Another great vacation and we plan to return next year! Everything about this resort is special from the wildlife, to the ruins, the dining, the shopping, the excursions to in entertainment. But the best part are the employees who make it all happen. I can't think of one bad thing!

“Marvelous, exotic, clean, safe, cultural, and amazing”

Occidental at Xcaret was a beautiful experience. The lobby is extravagant, with a lake in the middle, drawbridges that go up to let small boats by, parrots on perches, sweet little shops, and more. The "palapa" overarching the main entrance is a cultural novelty for those unfamiliar with the Maya heritage ... the very high roof made of thatched palm leaves is a sight to see in itself. The room we had was basic with a king bed and balcony and bathroom but just perfect, clean as a whistle, with a comfy bed. They keep the room very very cold, and so we just turned off the thermostat although daily the service lady would turn it back on again. Be ready to walk a lot on this resort property! It is BIG. There is a minibus that picks up and drives you all over, but we rarely waited for it. It is a good thing, because the eats are hearty and plentiful! You will gain weight at the Occidental at Xcaret! Great food and a lovely selection mean that gastronomic opportunities abound, as do free drinks. The restaurants on property have a dress code so you go on a date every night here! Try the Italian and Mexican restaurants; those were our favorites. Oh and the seafood one, too. As for water, I was quite spooked about the prospect of Montezuma's Revenge (okay, so I am uptight), but it was never an issue, and by the end I was drinking the glasses of water with ice cubes at all the restaurants. Zero problemas, amigos. The hotel filters all the water. Still, I brushed my teeth using bottled water. The evening show with dancing and singing was very impressive and talent-packed. Was that Ariana Grande I just saw from the third row? The hotel grounds are gorgeous. There are Mayan ruins and exotic animals like coatis and monkeys in the trees. The restaurant on the beach has an incredible view while you eat. I love the cove where you swim in crystalline waters. The concierge Rafael in our building 19 was a standout. He was kind, friendly, and helpful to a fault! We bought a trip to Chichen Itza from him and it was way cheaper than buying from the agency inside the hotel: we price - compared. On top of that, if you view the property for 1.5 hours with a salesman who tries to sell you a travel club membership, you earn money to be applied to your day trip. Rafael arranged that for us expertly as well. We didn't buy anything. We are not sure if Chichen Itza is the better tour, or if Tulum is. We only had time for 1 and had to choose. Also, we were told that the Coba pyramid, which is a lot closer to Occidental at Xcaret, is higher and you can still climb up it, so it might be best. I don't know! You can't do everything sometimes. We were happy with Chichen Itza. I was sad we couldn't make time for the Parque Xcaret next door ... they say it is fantastic! Guess we will have to return ... We also went to Playa del Carmen in a taxi from the hotel to see the town, too, and go to Mass at Nuestra Señora del Carmen. The town was a touristy place with a gorgeous beach and a pier for the ferry to the island of Cozumel. Great shopping here. You can bargain. There are probably 50 vendors selling you a trip to Cozumel. We shopped and got the cheapest one from Amigos Travel. It was great. We went on the ferry to Cozumel and then a 4 hour boat trip with snorkeling on 2 reefs and a swim stop. Only downside: they didn't provide flippers and so it inhibited our ability to go down to the bottom. Ask before you book: are mask AND flippers included? The Mexican staff are just lovely at Occidental at Xcaret. I love the Mexican people after this my first experience in Mexico! Family-oriented, friendly, polite, with a sense of humor, and always trying to help you out. A few minor observations: 1.) The hotel provides no lotions or creams. Bring your own. I never bring them to hotels, so that was new for me. There is soap, shampoo, a sewing kit (!) and makeup remover pads. But no cream. 2.) An annoying lady called us at 8:00 am our FIRST morning there and told us we had to report to the travel office before noon to get our time confirmed for our trip back to the airport. It was a lie and it was just the agency people trying to sell us a day trip. Not nice, Occidental at Xcaret! And, too early, by the way! Also, we just arrived -- why do you have to remind us that we are leaving??? 3.) Some people dress up quite fancy for dinner! I couldn't bring much as we traveled on Spirit Airlines, that good old non-friend of the clotheshorse. But some don't dress up, so you can do either. 4.) Another reviewer recommended bringing lots of $1 bills. Great advice! I brought 85 of them in an envelope. They are accepted everywhere, for everything. And believe it or not, $1 is a nice tip here. You can take them to breakfast or to the beach restaurant and tip your hostess and waiters.... it is appreciated by them and convenient. I have to say that I was apprehensive about going to Mexico as one never knows about security ... one hears of kidnappings and cartels and things of that nature ... this trip sold me on Mexico, its people, its natural beauty, its food, and its culture. We felt safe the whole time. This part of Mexico, at least, was a lovely and safe experience.

    “Love it!”

We have been here twice within the last year. It's a lovely place, nice wildlife, friendly staff, especially Juan the bellboy. The Le Buffet staff are all fantastic and very attentive. The teas arent great though, so we took our own, you can't beat a mug of Yorkshire tea!I do think that the labelling of the meat dishes could be better.
