    “A Totally Honest Reveiw”

We spent 2 weeks here and was very disappointed in every way. It is advertised as a 5 star all inclusive resort. It is in no way 5 star in any area. I am very surprised at the good reviews the hotel gets? I can only think its because the people leaving these reviews have never been to a 5 star resort hotel. the reception and main building lures you into a false sense of style but before we got our room key we was offered in a very amateur way tickets for the Xceret park ! this theme continues throughout the hotel area not very 5 star! (obviously the staff get a percentage) the room we had 21102 was horrid I spent the first 30 mins swatting mosquitoes and the room smelled very badly of damp. in fact it stank nor was it clean ! we asked to move hotels but the agent wanted more money for a hotel that was in her opinion was not as good? great service. Guest services was a complete waist of time saying the rooms do smell its the humidity ? so they are aware of the room issue but do nothing to deal with it ? not very 5 star again ! We had to request the room to be deodorized every day ! not very 5 star. WiFi in not available unless you pay 70 usd per week a 5 star all inclusive hotel with no free WiFi in 2018? even starbucks and mcdonalds provide this again not very 5 star. The Tv took 3 requests over 4 days to be put right again not very 5 star. The food its ok but just ok nothing was hot except the eggs cooked for you as you waited everything else was just luke warm. terrible! the drinks are good Corona beer all the spirits are branded and given generously but it is supposed to be a 5 star resort so this is just standard. The pools lack a massive amount of care tiles missing all around them on the edges the steps under the water allover the place and filthy. not very 5 star. There is no access the the ocean just a man mad cove/beach which is pretty but the cove is smelly ! like a bad egg smell ! not very 5 star yet again. What i will say is the general staff the waiters bar people waitresses gardeners etc are all fantastic people always happy always smiling genuine people. unlike the management who are letting their own staff and guests down by allowing the resort to be at such a low sub 3 star standard.

“So close to a five star”

We stayed at the Occidental Xcaret Riviera Maya in June. Having stayed there three years ago for our thirtieth wedding anniversary and had such a wonderful time we decided to go again. We upgraded to the Royal level again as this gives you a private area within the main hotel. With this you get your own swimming pool, spa pool, private ala carte restaurant, 24 hour room service and free wifi. When we arrived we got a free upgrade to a suite which was excellent and much appreciated. I shall keep this review shortish 1 When you arrive let the staff at the entrance know you're Royal Level and they will whisk you off in a golf buggy to the concierge office at the Royal Level, this saves you queuing t the main reception. 2 if you get Mitzi or Karen at the concierge then you're in luck, all the ladies there are excellent, but these two have the patients of a saint and always got me sorted with no fuss. 3 the rooms have been redecorated and are in great shape. 4 the gold band you wear for the Royal Level seems to impress just about everyone you meet and they roll out the red carpet, if they don't the ladies in the concierge will sort it out. Royal Level gives you priority booking in the ala carte restaurants throughout the rest of the hotel. Where the dream starts to fall apart is that Royal Level is one step down from Royal Club which is a members only lounge within the hotel. Members however use same facilities as the Royal Level as well as their own larger beach and this is a TIMESHARE set up. We were constantly badgered into going to a presentation with offers of free Royal Club merchandise to $100 each just for attending, some guests we spoke to went to a presentation just to get a green wristband so they wouldn't get harassed anymore. We had a steady stream all day long of representatives showing people around the Royal Level, so you're led on your sun bed or eating on the beach terrace with hordes of people staring at you. The food in the restaurant is excellent but don't be afraid to ask for anything you might like added to the dish on the menu, the chefs are more than happy to try to accommodate you. BHowever the same can't be said for the speciality restaurants, we tried the Mediterranean one and when we got there the menu was totally different from the one we were shown in the Royal Level concierge so I ended up settling for the pepperoni pizza on the menu which turned up 10 minutes after my wife's main , was cold and missing some of the toppings and had come from the pizza stand in the food court. I told the waiter I was discussed and he smiled and took it away but no apology. Didn't try the steak house as a lot of people we spoke to we not impressed. The oriental restaurant was excellent. If you intend to visit the Xcaret park which is literally next door I would suggest upgrading to an unlimited pass as you won't see it all in a day. Weather, June is not the time to go, it's very humid 80+% and we had a tropical storm that rained for four days. Try coco bongo night club it's weird and wild

We had a great time at the resort even though it rained on us almost our whole week there we still made the best of it. We stayed in building 18 and Alma St. Clair was the sweetest she WAS SO HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY she made sure we had everything we needed and was always there to help with anything and answer any questions we had ❤️ She’s a amazing woman can’t wait to go back and see her

“Amazing vacation at Occidental @ Xcaret Destination”

Excellent time at this resort. Everything from the jungle location, pools food, and mainly service was beyond excellent. Would not hesitate to recommend to others. Already planning our return! we were apprehensive due to bad reviews we read, but our fears were quickly put to rest upon arrival. Everything was amazing. Our room was beautiful and clean. always well stocked from towels, to toiletries to the the mini bar. We stayed at Royal Level and do not regret a single second of it. Tried main restaurants and those were amazing. Especially liked the D'Oriental. Le Buffet was also great. Had something for everyone. I liked the fact that they would set up continental type breakfast outside of the buffet before opening hours in case guests had early morning tours they needed to get picked up for. I cant say enough about this hotel and its super friendly staff. Everyone from housekeeping, grounds keeper, bartenders, everyone always had a smile and hello and willing to help. I especially would like to thank the staff at the Royal Level restaurant. Captain Edgar, Francisco, Fernando, Jose, Samuel and Chef Hector. Over the top, superb service. 5 stars at its best. We left longing for nothing except for a longer stay. Amazing, amazing, amazing!!! Staff at Royal lobby, Mitzi & Mari - excellent service!! Love this place. Bags packed and ready to head back ASAP!! Thank you Occidental @ Xcaret - this is one extremely happy, former cruise ship junkies, who definitely will be back and will be sending our friends and family your way!!

“Very belated review for this fantastic resort”

There are honestly no bad words that I can say about Occidental at Xcaret; every single part of our holiday was fantastic! It is a huge resort, with so much to see and do - usually a hotel for me is just a place to store your luggage and to sleep whereas here I actually felt sad leaving the hotel for excursions or other trips out! We saw so much incredible wildlife (monkeys on our balcony pretty much every day etc). Many of the reviews paint the food in a poor light, which made me a little nervous before coming as I am a painfully picky eater - this was no issue whatsoever whilst we were there and every meal either good or fantastic! My husband enjoyed going to the buffet and having a range of different food items to pick from and the fact that they had different options available at the buffet each night kept us interested. The other restaurants were also really good, I particularly liked the oriental themed one - mainly for the deep fried ice cream! The only restaurant that I personally wasn't the most keen on was the steak restaurant, but this is mainly down to my pickiness as my husband enjoyed it. The bars all had a good range of cocktails, beers and soft drinks. I personally stuck to beers so I was pretty happy with cans of corona or modelo! The resort itself was kept immaculate the whole time we were there and whilst works were still going on in the lobby area it caused very little inconvenience. The works were actually completed on our last couple of days and it was incredible to see how quickly they got it done by! We went along for the timeshare meeting, to which Oliver showed us around and was really funny and kind - we didn't sign up mainly because whilst the we may save money on the hotel room it would likely cost us more money in the long run having to buy flights ourselves rather than get both the room and flight on a deal via travel operator. If this wasn't the case for us and we had the funds then it's probably very likely that I would have convinced my husband to sign us up! Final bit now! The staff throughout the resort are so incredibly kind, helpful and hard working - please ensure that you tip (and tip well!). We did not come across anyone who was rude or unwilling to help, the staff truly made our stay even better! Also a special shout out to Jessica who was our concierge at Block 19, she was so warm and kind - I was gutted that we didn't get to say goodbye to her on our last day. Thank you Occidental at Xcaret for a beautiful ,memorable stay. We will be returning!!
