    “Good value for money!”

    Very nice looking hotel, spacious and clean! The big swimming-pool was in renovation during our stay, but the other swimming-pool was big enough to enjoy the stay. The beach is also huge and pretty. The entertainment was fun by the pool, and we loved listening to the saxophone player in the evening while drinking at the bar. The all-inclusive is just awesome! there are food and drinks all day long. The negative points are : - the a la carte restaurants : the food quality was a bit disappointing. Don't take the foie gras, and the cheesecake ain't cheesecake. - the staff were friendly, but lack of training...some were very unprofessional. - Have to be very patient.....: 30 minutes at the check-in counter, with no one behind the desk. Have to go after the staff to get what you want and to have more information.

    “wonderful vacation”

    the food was excellent at each restaurant , all the staff was friendly. The beach very clean and near the hotel.The pool was great even if the bigger one was closed. The day entertainment was pretty cool , and the night show at the theater was a good way to finish the day.

    “OK for the price”

    The overall rating is a 3 even though the value was rated a 5 only because the price paid was relatively low. Hotel is architecturally beautiful and is situated right on the beach. We had some issues with the room which they attempted to resolve, but not always with success. (1) the safe didn't work when we got there and was fixed the same day; (2) the message light on the phone wouldn't stop blinking. They could not fix it so it was resolved by them unplugging the phone; (3) there were no wash cloths in the bathroom. It took 3 days before we got them and it was only because I chased down a housekeeper while she was cleaning another room; (4) it was difficult to regulate the water temp in the shower, either hot or cold; (5) the main pool was under repairs and not in use. Additionally, there was the constant construction noise during the day as this was right in front of our room. You can see that the property is under renovation and it is needed. Staff was very friendly except for when I needed help to contact a tour operator. The front staff was unable (or unwilling) to make a call outside of the resort, and Guest Services was unwilling because we did not book the tour thru them. No internet access unless you are in the Casino.

All the information about flights and others have an office which works with the representatives of each agency, in case of emergency if necessary you can make the calls, but in the rooms they have telephones with access to any part of the world to the personal use of the guests, thus ensuring that they can have a communication with their travel agents and families. We sincerely lament reading that your stay was not as pleasant as it should have been and we would be very pleased to welcome you again in the future ensuring you in advance of our utmost commitment to make your next Occidental Caribe holiday experience an unforgettable one for all the right reasons.     The beach was stunning, and that was the reason we went. However, everything else was average. Food: The food at the Japanese restaurant was actually inedible (and I'm not a picky eater), but the rest of the food was okay. We ate at the buffet a lot, and tried the Dominican restaurant, which was good. Staff: Most of the staff were very friendly, but several of the male staff were unprofessional at times towards me. I'm a woman in my late 20s, and was only there with my mother, and apparently they took that to mean I was looking for flirting, etc. Facilities: They are still doing some renovations, but we didn't find them too disruptive, except for the pool. Their website said the pool was being redone and would open a couple weeks before our trip, and it was, but they did not tell us that they would be closing the other pool too for renovations, which happened on our second day. It's nice that most everything is in the main building so you don't have to go outside if it's raining to get to the restaurants. The buildings are older, but were fine. Room: We upgraded to the premium level suite for something like $60, and it was very worth it. The room had two full bathrooms, and was very spacious. Access to the premium level lounge was very helpful - they do a separate check in, have upgraded drinks, and will book your restaurant reservations for you, so you don't have to wait in line. Our bathrooms weren't cleaned super thoroughly before our arrival, but everything was clean enough. Our balcony had a good view, but our first night we went to bed early and were kept awake by the loud music at the pool - the glass door did nothing to insulate for sound. Since they closed the pool anyway, it wasn't an issue after that first night.

    “AWFUL”

    This was the worst experience I've ever had! The rooms are outdated, the food is awful, the staff is not friendly. I will not be returning to the Occidental, let alone the DR! $50 for WiFi and it constantly lost connection. My fiance and I could not use the WiFi at the same time; only one device could use it at a time. Rude staff who treat Americans poorly. I do NOT recommend this place at all!!
