    “Great Location”

We chose this property as it was formerly named a Barcelo resort, and we've had good experience with one in Playa Del Carmen. We had requested a King on our reservation about a month prior. We also inquired with the hotel directly to see if they had premium upgrades available, as our travel agent had none available. When we arrived they had one premium room left, but what wasn't clear was that there's a charge for the premium room as well as the premium services. We decided it wasn't likely worth it. The room we were given was a Double. We were told to check back in the morning when people check out to see if we could get into a King. Our Double room was ok. It was a relatively comfortable bed, but lacked finishing touches - the lamp's bulb hung loose, there was cracked tile, chunks of stucco were missing, the grout was messy, the balcony door did not lock, no fan in the crowded bathroom, and there were no outlets near the bed. Wifi was an additional charge, but would have been free with premium. We went to the front desk in the morning to inquire about a King bed and she didn't even look, but told us there were none. My husband said that we were told there would likely be someone in a King room checking out today and we could switch rooms. She said, "No, there may be 7 people checking out, but 8 people will check in." I said I understood that, but if one checking out was a King, we wanted that, and they could give the Double to another couple. She disappeared for a minute and came back to say there is a waiting list and we wouldn't make it, by the time we checked out in a few days. I asked her to add us to the list. She agreed but took no action and just stood there. I imagine they're discouraged from switching rooms. I understand that, but I felt she made no effort for us to more enjoy our stay. This was quite disappointing. We arrived during lunch service. It was awful. The burger was perhaps the worst thing I've ever had to eat. We went to Hooter's for dinner at nearby La Isla shopping center, and it was good, had a good view of the sunset, and was affordable. The breakfasts were wonderful A-, with the omelet station with fresh tortillas, as well as good bacon, sausage and chilaquiles in the buffet line. Lunch on our second try again disappointed with a D-, and we decided to never eat lunch there again. We ordered Dominos online for about $7.50 US, and it was there in 15 minutes and delicious. They're unable to take a tip on a credit card, so be prepared with cash if ever trying that. The dinners were about a B+, and had different themes every night at the main buffet. The location of the resort is beautiful, situated in the middle of the bar island of Cancun with relatively calm turquoise waters, and in walking distance to La Isla, where there are a lot of fun shops. The property grounds are very well maintained and the staff very friendly and attentive. There are plenty of beach and pool chairs at any time of the day. The only downfall was there is virtually no shade to be had anywhere on the beach. The activities were fun, as were the nightly shows. The magic show was a lot of fun. We found the south side of the hotel on our last full day there. There is a shop, a pharmacy, a snack bar and lounge area that are very nice. Overall the location was great, the pool area staff was very friendly, the food was ok, as was the room. I think next time we'd go to a nearby property with a bit of an upgrade in the areas of room and dining.

    “10 yr anniversary trip!”

My husband and I just got back from Cancun for three nights and four days. It was fast but so relaxing I can't complain about one thing at the resort. The beach was breathtaking. Resort was clean well-maintained. Staff was nice. Food was actually good! I love that this wasn't a big resort, my husband and I spent most of her time at the beach but also she went to the adult pool after we were a little sunburned. Or deluxe Oceanview room with a king bed was perfect. They filled the fridge with cold water, soda beer and snacks every day. Never had to ask them to do it. My Husband and I have been to Cancun seven times and the Riviera maya area four times, Occidental Tucancun would be my second favorite. It is kid friendly but not too crowded with them!

“Stunning beach, nice accomodations with Vip treatment”

My partner and I had a fantastic experience at Tucancun, just a week ago. We booked a Premium Club Suite which is an apartment right infront of the beach, with spacious lounging area complete with kitchen and lovely terrace. Bedroom was separate. Every day our fridge was stocked with beer and soft drinks, chocolate and peanuts. Because of our booking, we received VIP treatment, our check in and check out was done in the Premium Club Lounge where there was a minibar stocked with lots of premium alcohol, tea and coffee and tasty sandwiches and treats. We always filled up with snacks from there while lounging by the pool. We also received complimentary strawberries and champagne upon arrival. There were 4 pools, one main pool where the daily entertainment took place, and it was quite a shallow pool where there were too many kids so we avoided that and instead we went to the pool one level up the seafood restaurant, where there was a nice bar there. Lorenzo the bartender served us drinks and he knew what we liked, so even before we hit the bar with the empty glass he had already made us our drinks! Thanks Lorenzo! One thing I gotta say is the staff is excellent! Smiley and ready to take care of you, this is an important factor in a hotel. I have read reviews saying the food was disgusting, not true, it definitely is not michelin star but there was a good variety and food was definitely edible and nice. Restaurants were good, we ate from Italian, Mexican and Seafood restaurants. The baked Alaska dessert was so good. One thing I can mention is please try to make fresh cocktails from scratch, and not pre make it, and store on the side in container, for example like the mango margherita. I did have a nice coffee/bailey based cocktail which didnt seem to be pre made. Understand it is a resort and volume of drinks is huge, but it would be amazing if you could accomodate drinks that can be made using fresher ingredients. We also went clubbing in downtown Cancun with the open bar package at Mandala Club. Overall, great experience, we are generally very easygoing and like it when treated nice on holiday. Would love to come back again! Thanks Tucancun!

“2nd time visitors, this spot is still amazing. Four happy Canadians.”

We again visited this hotel the week of February 12th, 2017. We arrived before noon and they held our luggage until our rooms were available around 2:30 pm. In kind of a bizarre twist I had contacted the hotel concierge a few weeks before departure to enquire about an oceanview upgrade. I was quoted $490.00 (USD) for two rooms over seven days. I politely declined but when we were given our room it was in fact an oceanview. I’m not sure what we would have been given for $490.00 USD because there are larger suites there on the ocean with balconies. We were able to make reservations all seven nights at the three ala carte restaurants. This is a big plus for us! We find the food here above average for Cancun. The spent the entire week lounging near the middle pool and bartender Antonio Mex again took care of us up at the Guacamaya bar. Being an early riser there is always coffee and danishes available at the snack bar behind the lobby bar. For lunch we generally ate at the Claraboya restaurant. The buffet was good and it appeals to all tastes. We will almost certainly return here once again in 2018. Keep up the great service.
