    “Pleasantly Surprised & Amazing Staff”

We stayed the week of 3/13 which was the height of spring breakers, but that didn't end up being extremely bothersome. There are 3 pools with the main pool being more "party" but we really enjoyed the "adult pool" and the tiki huts they had to get out of the sun. The beach was nice and clean, although at the time it was extremely windy and wavy (but that may be Cancun in general- my first time here). My first impression of the food buffets and drinks were less than average.. however as you start to figure out the nicer restaurants or get used to the food and it became much more enjoyable. The Mexican restaurant which requires a reservation in the morning is fantastic. I also think that after the spring breakers started dying out the bartenders made better drinks. I think my favorite part of this hotel was the staff- everyone was extremely nice, professional and generous. I enjoyed practicing some Spanish and it truly felt like they wanted to make sure we all had a good time. It really did some like they enjoyed their job which I appreciated. The hotel felt extremely safe and at no point was I concerned. There is security always walking around. It is also right across the street from a wealthy luxury mall which I felt very safe walking around as something to do after dinner. Main downsides: they're very strict about loosing towels, key cards, your wristband etc. There is a big fee if you lose any of those things. Wifi was only available free in the lobby from 10-11am and although it's an opportunity to unplug, we all would've appreciated more free wifi as a standard expectation nowadays. I also wish the beach had umbrellas or any sort of shade. My only other critique of course is that the food can be disappointing however it got better for me. I will miss my mango and coffee for breakfast every morning with an ocean view! Overall though, for the price we paid I am extremely satisfied with our stay and what we got out of it. I would recommend to others and if I come back to Cancun, I certainly wouldn't mind staying here again or at their other locations around South America.

    “Amazing time!!!”

Came for a vacation and has honestly been one of thee best trips I've ever been on. We had a suite and we were considered 'vips' which was pretty awesome considering we had a whole lounge with snacks and drinks just for us. Management took really good care of us. Every worker we encountered was super nice and caring. Rooms and entire hotel was very clean!!! Seriously no complaints. Oh and I'd also like to mention the pool entertainment was AMAZING!!! Billy, Evian, Danny, and Joesph were soooo fun!! They're great at what they do, when they go out to the clubs with everyone who's bought a ticket they stick by you and make sure you're having a great night! I would come back just for the entertainment boys haha! Thankful we found this resort, now we know where we are staying next time:)

    “Good AND Bad”

We stayed at Occidental Tucancun 3/9-3/16. First of all, walking in and seeing the Beautiful ocean through the lobby was amazing. Our check in was smooth and we were not attacked by sales pitches because I learned to say NO right away. Our rooms were standard doubles, facing the lagoon, no big deal...not much time spent in the rooms. Rooms were ...neh... mini fridges were stocked with pop and water, however not real cold. Beds were HORRIBLE... super hard and the mattress pad covers were like crib mattress pads...waterproof which made the beds hot and humid feeling. Room service was daily and fine HOWEVER, I had a pair of earings stollen off the bathroom counter. You can hear anything in the hallway and on the patios when doors are shut, unfortunately we were there during spring break and woken up all night long, every night so if you are not a spring breaker...avoid this hotel during this time! Security would respond right away but that does not prevent the noise. The hotel was very nice, clean the scenery was absolutely beautiful! The beach was amazing and the water was perfect. Not a great spot for little children, that part of the ocean can be pretty rough. The pools were GREAT !!!! The drinks were also great however no mint all week so NO mojitos 😞 also out of champagne one day so no mimosas... but they need more staff in the bars and on the beach. The staff was great and very friendly !!! Now the food.... sub par mostly. It's your typical all inclusive buffet food, nothing special. And the restaurants that are the "reservation" ones, first of all the Mexican was not good at all !!! Secondly, forget about the seafood restaurant, they were not taking reservations all week, said there were "too many people" so no seafood for us except the random seafood they have in the buffets. They BBQ hamburgers and hotdogs daily which ended up being the best food there...except for the fruit...that was so good! It's in a good location for activities but "hotel zone" sums it up...! Honestly, compared to other hotels I've been to there...the Royal in Playadel Carmen a FIVE ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for sure and Catalonia Maroma FOUR ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ... I'd give this hotel a 3 ⭐⭐⭐

“Great for the price we paid”

I went to Occidental Tucancun with 2 friends for 7 nights for our spring break. We had a wonderful time, but there were a lot of other spring breakers there, so if you’re trying to get away on a quiet vacation, I’d call the resort first to ask if they have a bunch of college aged spring breakers. The food was good. I’m a pretty picky eater, and there was always something at the buffet that I would eat. They also cooked out by the pools sometimes, which was nice when you didn’t want to have to sit inside and eat a more formal meal. The Italian was my favorite out of the 3 signature restaurants. I was not impressed with the Mexican, but the Seafood restaurant was fine. We loved Tomas Cen who took good care of us in the buffet restaurant. The pools were great, but I will warn you not to bring your favorite white bathing suit, because it might turn yellowish, assuming due to the chlorine. There is an activities pool where they put on activities like water polo, water volleyball, water aerobics and things of that sort throughout the day. There’s another pool that has an Infinity type style to it and then an “adult” pool which is a quieter, serene pool. Alberto Martinez worked at the bar near the infinity pool, and we loved him! He was very knowledgeable of the drinks and even created a special drink for us the rest of the trip after we taught him the recipe. We were sad to leave him. As for the bar inside, I don’t know if it was just because of spring break, but it was very difficult to get drinks at the physical bar because there were so many people. Dalida Perez was incredible, helped us out as we sat at the tables, and brought us drinks. She would even bring us a special surprise drink every night for us to try. Overall, we had a great trip. My only complaint would be that it can be pretty loud in the hallways, so if people are slamming doors or talking loudly in the hallway, you can hear it in your room. We were satisfied overall, especially for the price we paid. Alberto, Dalida and Tomas, we miss y’all!

    “Spring break”

loved the fact that the hotel was a few steps from the mall and only about a 10-15 min bus ride to the clubs and bars. Very calm setting, the food was alright but the staff was friendly for the most part
