Discover the work and legacy of the Lanzarote-born artist César Manrique on an excursion that explores some of the most representative cultural spaces and volcanic landscapes of Lanzarote.
The route begins at the Monumento al Campesino, a tribute to the island’s agricultural tradition built in a former quarry transformed by Manrique. From there, the tour continues to Teguise and the area of Los Valles, where you can admire the well-known Valley of a Thousand Palm Trees and views of the Volcán de la Corona.
You will then visit the Mirador del Río, one of Manrique’s most emblematic creations, offering spectacular views of the Chinijo Archipelago. The excursion continues with a visit to the Jameos del Agua, a natural space formed within a volcanic tunnel and transformed by the artist into a unique cultural centre.
The itinerary also includes the Cactus Garden, where architecture and volcanic nature blend together to showcase a remarkable collection of cactus species from different parts of the world.
The final stop is the César Manrique Foundation, the artist’s former residence built on a volcanic lava flow, where you can learn more about his life, his artistic vision and his philosophy of integrating art with nature.
