Benidorm is the quintessential tourist destination in the province of Alicante, but between a day at the beach and a stroll along the Paseo Marítimo, you can—and should—discover other unique places in the surrounding area. Altea, Guadalest, and the Fuentes del Algar are just a few of them.
Departing mid-morning, you can comfortably take a bus to the first stop on this excursion: Altea.
This quiet town with a Mediterranean feel offers six kilometers of coastline, among which its coves and pebble beaches stand out. No postcard worthy of a postcard can ignore the large blue dome of the Iglesia del Consuelo, a key landmark in Altea’s old town. We’ll explore the Portal Vell, the Glorieta del Mar, and the Plaza Carmelina Sánchez Cutillas on a guided walking tour before having free time for lunch and continuing to explore at your own pace.
Afterward, we’ll board the bus to head to Guadalest, just 20 km away, where the landscape changes completely: you’ll leave the blue sea behind to marvel at the colors of the reservoir, the main attraction of this area between the sea and the mountains.
The town has been declared a Historic Site and Site of Cultural Interest for its rich heritage, including the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, the town hall, and the Castillo de San José. We’ll take a walking tour with an expert guide to learn about the most important historical sites and facts, and then you’ll have free time to enjoy the town’s museums—the town has around 200 inhabitants, but no fewer than eight museums. After this time, we’ll return to the bus to head to our next destination.
In the afternoon, the excursion continues to Fuentes del Algar, a unique nature reserve on the Algar River, notable for its numerous waterfalls and natural pools. The guide will tell you about this spot along the way, and to make the most of it, you’ll have about two hours of free time, the perfect time to stroll and enjoy nature or take a refreshing dip.
