Details and itinerary
After meeting in the vertical garden called Puppy, which represents a dog in monumental size, we will get to know part of the exterior architecture of the museum together with some contextualisation of Bilbao as a way of understanding the origin of the museum in Bilbao.
We will go inside the museum and we will show images of the Bilbao of yesteryear contrasted with current photos. We will also see the construction of the museum designed by the internationally renowned architect Frank Ghery, which was inaugurated in 1997.
The museum has become the symbol of the urban revitalisation of the city of Bilbao, from being a polluted and industrial city to what it is today, a cosmopolitan city open to the 21st century.
Inside the museum, in the Atrium that distributes all the exhibition space, we will admire the grandeur and monumentality of the building inside and we will take a tour of its main masterpieces, acquisitions that the museum has been buying throughout these 27 years of life, works and installations by Jenny Holzer, the largest room in the museum which houses the monumental sculpture by the famous sculptor Richard Serra called ‘The Matter of Time’, the sculpture ‘Mama’ by Louis Bourgueois, “Tulips” by Jeff Koons, ‘Rising Sea’ by El Anatsui, the installation by Yayoi Kusama, works of American abstract expressionism by Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell, Lee Krasner and others.
The temporary exhibitions will then be visited. Depending on the time available, they will be visited in detail and if it is not possible, guidelines will be given to be able to visit them on your own.
Once the visit is over, access to the museum is free throughout the day as many times as you wish until closing time.
IMPORTANT: minimum of 4 participants. If there are not 4 participants, BilbaoGuia will contact the person who has booked 48 hours before the tour to offer them an alternative or, if this is not possible, the tour will be cancelled and a full refund given 48 hours before the start of the tour.
