La Rioja is home to one of Spain’s most celebrated wine traditions, shaped by historic vineyards, medieval villages and generations of winemakers. Departing from Bilbao, this small-group experience offers a relaxed introduction to the region’s wine culture and landscapes.
During the route, you will visit two wineries with distinct approaches to winemaking. One focuses on traditional production methods, while the other showcases more contemporary techniques applied both in the vineyard and inside the cellar.
As you walk through barrel rooms and ageing areas, your guide and winery specialists will explain the influence of the terroir, grape varieties and maturation processes behind Rioja wines. Guided tastings provide the opportunity to identify characteristic notes of red fruit, vanilla, soft toasted aromas and spices commonly associated with Crianza and Reserva wines.
The experience also includes time in Laguardia, a medieval hilltop town surrounded by vineyards and regarded as one of the most iconic destinations in La Rioja. Its cobbled streets, stone walls and panoramic viewpoints reflect the deep connection between local heritage and viticulture.
While in Laguardia, you will enjoy a light pintxos lunch paired with regional wines before returning to Bilbao. Transport is provided in an air-conditioned vehicle to ensure a comfortable journey throughout the day.
The scent of oak barrels, the calm rhythm of the vineyards and the flavours of Rioja create an atmosphere closely tied to the wine culture of northern Spain.
