The coastline of Biscay features dramatic cliffs, fishing villages and historic landmarks deeply connected to Basque culture. Departing from Bilbao, this guided route visits some of the region’s most recognised locations in a comfortable small-group format.
The first stop is San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, a rocky islet linked to the mainland by a stone bridge and a staircase of 241 steps. Internationally known as Dragonstone from the series Game of Thrones, this spectacular setting has long been admired for its scenery and coastal heritage.
The route then heads to Mundaka, a traditional fishing town located within the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve. Its harbour, narrow old streets and world-famous left-hand surf wave have made Mundaka a landmark destination along the Cantabrian coast.
The final visit takes place in Gernika, one of the most symbolic towns in Basque history. Here you will learn about the significance of the Tree of Gernika and the events surrounding the 1937 bombing that inspired Pablo Picasso’s renowned painting.
Transport throughout the experience is provided by minibus, making travel between coastal and inland locations more comfortable and efficient.
Ocean cliffs, fishing traditions and powerful historical landmarks come together in a route that captures several sides of the Basque Country in a single day.
