Txakoli stands as one of the most distinctive wines of the Basque Country, closely linked to the Atlantic landscape and local gastronomy. Departing from Bilbao, this small-group experience offers an introduction to its history, production methods and unique character.
The route heads into the Bizkaiko Txakolina wine region, where coastal hillsides and oceanic weather conditions shape the personality of the native Hondarrabi Zuri grape. In Bakio, you will visit the Txakoli Museum to gain insight into the origins of this winemaking tradition and the techniques that have helped it achieve international recognition.
The experience then continues at a traditional txakolindegi, the Basque term used for Txakoli wineries. Accompanied by a winemaker and your local guide, you will follow the different stages of production, including vineyard work, harvesting, pressing and fermentation.
The visit concludes with a guided tasting featuring several styles of Txakoli paired with Cantabrian products selected to highlight the wine’s citrus notes, mineral profile and fresh herbal aromas.
Transport is provided in an air-conditioned vehicle, allowing for a relaxed pace throughout the itinerary and closer interaction with the winery specialists.
Atlantic vineyards, sea air and the fresh character of Txakoli create an atmosphere deeply connected to the culinary identity of northern Spain.
