Description
As the sun sets over Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, the landscape slows down and takes on a quieter atmosphere. This guided walking route begins at that moment, linking the volcanic environment with the observation of the night sky.
The route starts at the Sollarete Viewpoint and follows accessible trails through volcanic formations and vegetation adapted to the arid climate. Along the way, your guide interprets the surroundings, sharing insights into the geology, flora, fauna, and the historical connection between this landscape and its inhabitants.
As dusk progresses, the walk leads towards Genoveses Beach, where clear skies provide ideal conditions for observation. Far from light pollution, this setting becomes the perfect place to begin the astronomy session.
No telescopes are required. You will learn to identify seasonal constellations, locate the North Star, and understand how people traditionally navigated using the night sky. Techniques such as star hopping are introduced to help you move between stars and recognise patterns.
The experience is supported by educational materials and a prepared observation area, creating a relaxed environment where science, history, and nature come together. As darkness settles, the sky gradually reveals its depth, giving new meaning to the journey that led you there.
