Aranjuez, designated a Cultural Landscape World Heritage Site, represents a distinctive example of monumental planning integrated into nature. Unlike many historic complexes built primarily in stone, Aranjuez was designed around gardens, tree-lined avenues and open spaces, creating a unique composition where landscape and architecture are closely connected.
During the tour, you will learn about the historical context that shaped the city under the Habsburg and Bourbon dynasties, as well as the traditions and episodes linked to the Spanish court. Topics such as the Royal Days, the evolution of the gardens and the symbolic and mythological elements embedded in the courtly layout will be explored.
The itinerary includes the monumental surroundings of the Royal Palace, Plaza de Parejas, Casa de Caballeros y Oficios and Plaza de San Antonio. We will also walk through the historic centre, home to buildings such as Casa de Infantes, La Mariblanca, the Church of San Antonio, the Town Hall, the Market and the Teatro Real Carlos III.
The visit concludes with a walk through the Parterre Gardens and the Island Gardens, key spaces for understanding the relationship between landscape design, architecture and royal power in historic Aranjuez.
A cultural experience lasting approximately 2 hours, ideal for discovering one of Spain’s most representative historic landscapes.
