Step into the creative world of Antoni Gaudí on a guided walk through the modernist heart of Barcelona. This route offers a deeper understanding of how his architecture transformed the city and why his work continues to captivate visitors from around the world.
Over approximately three hours, you will walk through the Eixample district, home to some of the finest examples of Catalan modernism. Along the way, the tour traces Gaudí’s artistic evolution, from his early social concerns to the spiritual vision reflected in projects such as the Sagrada Familia.
The experience also places Gaudí’s work within the wider cultural and political atmosphere of late nineteenth and early twentieth-century Barcelona. Themes such as the rise of the intellectual bourgeoisie, urban expansion, anarchism, utopian socialism and the effects of the Spanish Civil War all help frame the city that shaped these architectural masterpieces.
The itinerary features landmarks including Casa Batlló, Casa Milà and Casa Calvet, together with notable buildings by other major modernist architects such as Casa Amatller by Puig i Cadafalch and Casa Lleó Morera by Domènech i Montaner. Hidden courtyards and quieter corners of the Eixample also reveal another side of Barcelona’s urban identity.
Although the tour does not enter the buildings or reach the Sagrada Familia and Park Güell, it provides valuable insight into the ideas, symbolism and visual language behind Gaudí’s work. Walking beneath sculpted façades and flowing architectural lines creates an atmosphere that feels both intimate and unmistakably Barcelona.
