Step into the most mysterious side of Barcelona on an evening walking tour through ancient streets filled with legends, hidden symbols and centuries-old stories. Led by a specialised cultural guide, this experience reveals lesser-known episodes of the city while uncovering tales of sorcery, superstition and historical figures linked to Barcelona’s popular folklore.
The route begins near carrer Fontanella and the historic Estruc street, traditionally associated with magic and astrology. Here, you will hear the story of Barcelona’s famous sorcerer and the legendary pedra escurçonera, a stone believed to protect against evil and cure illnesses. Although located close to bustling Plaça de Catalunya, this area still preserves an atmosphere shaped by ancient beliefs and forgotten traditions.
The walk continues into the Gothic Quarter, where narrow medieval streets reveal traces of the Roman city of Barcino. Along the way, the guide will share stories connected to the underground river of Saint Eulalia and explain the symbolism behind details such as the stone turtle sculpted on the façade of the Casa de l’Ardiaca, linked to one of Barcelona’s most intriguing local legends.
In front of the Barcelona Cathedral, you will take a closer look at its famous gargoyles while learning about the beliefs and myths surrounding these striking Gothic figures. Their unsettling shapes and symbolic meaning continue to fascinate visitors wandering through the old town after sunset.
The experience ends at Plaça de l’Àngel, near Jaume I metro station. Dimly lit alleys, centuries of oral tradition and the quiet atmosphere of the historic centre create a completely different perspective of Barcelona after dark.
