Step into Barcelona’s 22@ district, one of Europe’s most ambitious urban regeneration projects. This guided walk reveals how the former industrial area of Poblenou has evolved into a hub for innovation, technology and contemporary architecture.
Over approximately three hours, you will walk among buildings designed by internationally renowned architects including Jean Nouvel, Ricardo Bofill, David Chipperfield, Rafael Moneo and Enric Ruiz-Geli. Along the route, the tour highlights the ideas and urban strategies shaping Barcelona’s future.
The experience introduces key concepts linked to sustainable urbanism and smart city development, such as the Superblocks, carbon footprint reduction, parametric architecture and cradle-to-cradle design models. The tour also reflects on the lasting influence of Ildefons Cerdà, whose nineteenth-century urban vision continues to inspire the city today.
One of the main highlights is the Media-TIC building, awarded World Building of the Year at the 2011 World Architecture Festival. Its innovative structure and environmentally conscious design have made it one of the most recognisable landmarks in the new Poblenou district.
The entire route is wheelchair accessible and takes place on foot. Walking through open squares, glass façades and former factory spaces transformed for a new era offers a striking glimpse into Barcelona’s constantly evolving identity.
