Experience one of Madeira’s most distinctive local traditions through a day that brings together nature, history and regional flavours in the village of Camacha. This activity includes a guided levada walk, an artisan cider tasting and lunch served at a traditional estate.
The tour begins with a one-hour walk alongside Madeira’s historic levadas, irrigation channels built centuries ago to transport water across the island. Along the route, you will pass through forested areas and apple-growing zones closely linked to local cider production.
After the walk, you will visit Quinta da Moscadinha, a cider house known for producing some of Madeira’s most highly regarded ciders. During the visit, you will learn about traditional production methods and sample three different ciders made with apples grown by local producers.
The estate, which produced apple juice for many years before starting cider production in 2020, also preserves French and American oak barrels used for ageing fruit spirits. Madeira’s cider-making tradition dates back more than 500 years, and this producer has received several national and international awards for its quality.
The experience concludes with lunch at the estate’s restaurant while your guide shares further insight into the history and character of this traditional Madeiran drink.
