    “Barcelo Solymar NOT a 4 star... 1.5 at most.”

    Guys, i stayed there from sept 21-26. This place used to be a 4 star about 10 years ago, it is no longer. at best it's a 1.5 star. The food is horrendous, the staff have gotten ill managed. The pools are dirty, i spoke with the staff there and they even said the pool is flooded with chlorine every few weeks. It rained when we were there and my room started leaking on the 4th floor. Had roaches in my room which is a given but still... From what the staff explained, the tourism group for barcelo solymar in Cuba doesn't want to put money into fixing the structure anymore not sure why. There were no activities like other resorts, no food anywhere except for the main buffet which smells like rotten seafood when you walk by it. Such an unpleasant time, we ended up eating outside of the resort for the 5 days we were there. PLEASE STAY AWAY.

    “Decent and Good Value”

    I wanted to write a review from a "Canadian/American" point of view...as we have different standards from Cuban or Europeans. When we arrived, we were checked in very friendly and quickly, but automatically put in a pool-view room, opposed to a bungalow, which we reserved. It was odd, but at least we werent on the ground level and having to deal with bugs or creatures (which you will encounter, it's a tropical island!) The bedroom was clean, had sufficient towels, firm bed, and 4 pillows (medium and high height). Air con worked well and it fit our needs. The hallway to our room was almost pitch black, as there were no lights on..I think they were dealing with an electrical issue. The food: The buffet food was average on certain nights (pasta, beans, chicken, cabbage, deli meats/cheese) and really good on others. I wasn't crazy about the buffet, as is had a weird smell, but you could walk over to Arenas Blancas buffet, which I felt was a nicer atmosphere and no weird smell. The Mexican restaurant was decent, but you have to make reservations. The Caribbean restaurant was my favorite...we ate lunch there everyday. they grilled fish, had stewed beef, rice, and a nice variety of tasty food, plus an amazing view of the ocean! Wifi was decent at $1.50 CUC for an hour (I think it was more like 1/2 hr on the card though). You can also exchange your Cdn money for CUC at reception. If you want to go to Havana for a day...don't bother with the Viazul local bus.. you will have to figure how to get to its station, deal with delays and then it doesnt even drop you off in Old Havana apparently. Book a transfer ride the day before you want to go in the hotel lobby, they have a tour rep daily. You will be picked up in a comfy bus at 8:30 and return from Havana is at 4:00pm. The commentary on the way may be in Russian however (there are TONS, and some very rude and budging infront of you in the cafe and buffet) There wasn't much nightlife...we only saw a Grease Broadway style show 1 night in the Disco room and it was really good! If you want something to do instead of sleeping at 9pm, go for a walk eastbound and you will find the Calle 62 bar and the Beatles bar which were pretty happening, and good music. It is very safe walking around and we saw tons of security guys patrolling the streets. Also, bring bug repellant spray! We got lots of bites the first couple of nights, but after spraying some OFF, we didn't even catch 1. All in all, this was a decent hotel for the cost, I'd say more like a 3 star North American standard..and they really do try to keep you happy. Remember you are in Cuba! And the beach is amazing! Enjoy yourself

    “Good resort,great beach,friendly people :)”

    I,my brother and my friend had a wonderful week in this resort,from 16-22 sept.2017 :) Before we go there i read the reviews and now i wonder how people can say that the people that work there are unfriendly,that the food is bad,resort isnt good...All i saw there were friendly people that work there,but the most friendly were people that work on Cactus bar,especially Esteban and Karen from the other pool bar-they are real treasure of the resort,keep them well :) Hotel room was ok,but who cares about the hotel room whan there is gorgeous nature :) Greetings from Macedonia,i will recommend you here :)

    “quiet good, not so worse !”

    i still remember, we had arrived from Havana afternoon more than one bus, i sty more than 90 minutes to get my room key ! cause you are not Spanish spoker you'll face some priority ..my room was at ground floor, at the end of path as mangy! withe a view of tabaco private field fill of many chickens use to be close from the guests windows (might they feed it)! nice & clean enough even it was little old stile . furniture too. Wi fi at lobby only , fantastic location (at the middle of main road of touristic village) which is nearby every thing , clean beach nice food (3 meals) but you have to come early (dinner specifically)nice big swimming pool, was nice for family ..might back to there in the future !

    “Bad management”

    In this review, I'll set aside all remarks linked to the hurricane damages (beach not taken care of, areas closed for renovations etc). The big company, Barcelo, bought two hotels in the same spot. So they decided the two should... share services. So the non stop snacks at the Solymar are no more and you have to walk all the way to the Arenas Blancas (AB) beach bar if you have nighttime munchies. Also, you get quite a lot of tourits from AB to the Solymar pool, probably because they have no entertainment there. The pool opens at 10am, so if you have breakfast with the kids at 7 and want to go for a swim... tough luck. There's a guy "cleaning the pool" who tells you to get out or maybe stay in a corner. Also, nighttime baths are out of question. The pool closes at 19:00 and they throw copious amounts of granulated chlorine in it in the evening. Really nasty for the skin, as we found out pretty soon. When my neighbours went out for the night and left the tv on, the front desk ignored my complaint, then sent a security guy to knock on the door for twenty minutes, then ignored me again, because they don't enter rooms and can't cut the power of a room. A partygoing neighbour can cost you a night's sleep and the hotel people just shrug you off. The food comes in low variety and high salt content. Four out of eight days, lunch was salty enough to stay fresh a looong time. Also, the bars have no slush and the lemonade is clearly more chemical factory stuff than beverage. The juice dispenser almost never works and those liquids don't seem to have met any fruit in their lives. The AC is centralized, so you have zero power to customize the temperature in your room. It's just on or off, blowing over the bed(s) - you just choose how hard it blows. One of the customers told me he had a bungalow where he saw two big cockroaches running when he went in - so he asked for another lodging option right away. The people were the good part. They are quite curteous (with some exceptions) and speak some English and French even.

Once you have entered this code, the prices shown in step 1 of the booking process will already include the relevant discount. 

    The discount does not apply to prices on extras and/or extra services, neither does it apply to prices on last available rooms. You can only apply one discount code per booking which will only be valid at the time of making your booking.** 

    The maximum amount of accumulated discount will be at most 25% off the rate for hotels in Latin America and at most 20% off the rate for European and Mediterranean hotels.
