Thanks to the sponsorship of the Barceló Foundation, the Capella Mallorquina choir has been able to further its outstanding musical career since 2001, it now having become without a doubt one of the most highly regarded choral groups on our island. |
| The renovation process commenced in 1999 having been completed through the change of conductor, arranged by the choir’s conductor and founder Mr. Bernat Julià to bring in the present conductor José María Moreno, along with the coming of new singers replacing or joining the existing ones, this choir has now become firmly consolidated. |
| A very busy performing schedule was undertaken by Capella Mallorquina in the 2003-2004 season, notable appearances being the concert held in the Vatican’s Nervi Hall featuring the first performance of the work Canticum Paschale by the Mallorcan composer Antonio Martorell, together with the choir’s performance in the Sunday mass celebrated by Pope John Paul II in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican before a congregation of over 400,000 people, and a performance inside St. Peter’s Basilica; Mozart’s Requiem in the Basilica of Sant Francesc in Palma de Mallorca; and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, performed with the Mallorca Classical Orchestra in Palma Cathedral in Mallorca. |
| It is significant that Capella Mallorquina is the only Mallorcan choir to have scheduled a stable polyphonic-concert season, the first of those seasons having started off in October 2001. |
| Since the Barceló Foundation is committed to this project, further cooperation will be arranged to consolidate the Capella Mallorquina choir. | |
