Education
Education has become a priority activity for the Barceló Foundation, through an awareness that it is a key factor in the development of the global village and in the knowledge society.
o
The Barceló Foundation has marked out four priorities within the field of education:
1. Extending the shortfalls in educational coverage found in developing countries with serious structural problems in this sphere.
2. Enhancing the quality of education in those countries to bring it up to international standards and parameters through providing training for teachers pursuing their profession in those countries, the training being given by Spanish teachers sent out for the purpose.
3. Providing, as far as possible, the teaching materials that are essential to enable educational work to be pursued at an acceptable level in the most impoverished areas.
4. Helping in eradicating illiteracy to the greatest possible extent.
o
The difference in levels of knowledge is the most significant factor in the growing gap between industrialised countries and developing countries.
Our aim here at Barceló Foundation is to “educate for change” in those countries, the watchword being “learning to learn” – a task that involves not so much learning solutions for problems as giving people the capacity to solve their problems by themselves, which is the most important factor.
